Vets Lounge

I think people change their names too often. I would rather see it more like every 90 days.
Amen.

We already have like 30 usergroups as it is already for the various things on the board. The Vet Lounge is basically just one topic anyway; the Chit-Chat thread.

I understand Hal when he has mentioned that he wants to make it more exclusive/harder because it seems like some people can whip up 1,000 posts in no time, and a year does go by fast when you think about it. But all for a usergroup and access to a one-topic forum? Eh...

so an entire forum/sub forum is being kept alive for the sake of a single thread. interesting.

and no mlfy, i will not. i dont have anything interesting to say about anything outwith spam and if i do its already been said so i stay clear unless i feel particularly strong. unlike most of the pointless/regurgitated pish that 95% of folk bother their arses to post.

/reiterate point

/post count + 1

as for username changes its a novelty which obviously hasnt worn off. theres a theme just about every other week it seems and theyre all crap, not to mention it seems to only be staff members that ever take part in the themes.

Im gonna agrre with Jim here that its mosty only staff who do themes. Themes are fun sometime but they break in no time. Like you dont wanna be a part of it anymore. I think there should be a rule that you cant change till the theme is over. Would mae it better really.

I kinda feel like nobody cares what my username is anyways. So why not let me change it along with my avatar and sig whenever I feel like a theme swap? Don't see how it bothers anyone, even if it isn't 30 days apart.

(it also helps with holiday-themed names, which are obviously only useful for one day)

I'm curious about all this admittance to the Vet Lounge being only one thread, a Chit Chat thread, which could be held in Smap or Costa Del Sol.... why have this secret section open at all then?

It is supposed to be a reward for veteran members for persevering/dedication etc etc.
There's not just one thread, only one is active.

It's pretty much a forum very similar to Costa Del Sol except the chit chat thread is the only active thread at the moment. There are a few dead threads there and veterans are free to make new threads, so it's not like the place is just dedicated to one thread.

..and yeah as Hal said, it's meant to be a reward for sticking with the site for a while.

im pretty sure there was a rule made, summat like themes are only every 2 months or summat, and you have to stick with the name for a fortnight

I don't know... maybe give people a different sort of reward rather than a section that they hardly use? It may give people even moar incentive to stay.

The vet lounge isn't the issue, I just want it to be more exclusive.
Veterans also get larger avatars and 60 days for a name change which is less than others.

Yeah, but... That's not all that huge a deal, y'know? Maybe add a privalege for an extra line in your user title?

I think your usertitle can be longer than 2 lines or so but Im ot bothered by it. Its just a usertitle. Also the vets lounge should have more stuff. I dont know about exclusive though :hmmm:

Usertitles you see that are two lines, aren't actually two lines. It's just to do with the formatting and layout of the page that makes you view it over separate lines.

Ah right thanks for clearing that up then. I was not so sure myself and it does not bother me either :gasp:

In regards to the Veteran's Lounge - it was a nice novelty and we appreciated the thought when it was first made but I don't think it's practical anymore. No threads in the Vet's Lounge are anymore appropriate there than anywhere else on the forum and the chit-chat thread is just easy spam. It's not really worth becoming a Vet just to see that thread because, like the one in the staff forum, it's just a load of pish used to boost some numbers.

About the username changes - I prefer the freedom as well. That hover ability is there for normal members so none of this "have to click on their names and go ALL THE WAY OVER TO THEIR PROFILE JUST TO SEE WHO THEY ARE RAAAAAAEG!" It's not their for staff, so really the only issues are with staff changing their names too often. Of all people on the site, the staff should be the most recognisable, and without that hover ability on staff, if anything it should be them who have to wait longer.

I also don't think username themes should have any staff input. If people want to participate in one then sure, go ahead, but it shouldn't provide a loophole for staff being able to change their names again at a later date. If you want to be in the theme then wait; if you can't wait then you're wasting your time. That said, if there wasn't a time limit (or at least a smaller one - 2 weeks always worked fine) then it shouldn't matter too much.

-coughAKAfieldhackcough-

I don't understand why the hover thing doesn't work on staff?

Not quite sure myself, never thought to ask LG about it or look into it myself. I'll see if I can find something.

Edit: Nope, none. This is an LG operation it would seem.

Right, because the colored and bolded user name doesn't differentiate us in the slightest. :wacky:

Saying staff are the only ones who participate in themes is a bit heavy-handed. This moogle theme has about ... what... 30 people in it? And considering there are only around a dozen people on staff, the majority of whom (all but 5, and Tia already had her name as a moogle) are not taking part.... I just don't see how that correlates.

As far as the hover thing, that only works in posts. There is no hover field in the SB. There is no hover field on the Currently Online/Online Today lists. And those places are where it's irritating, frankly.

It may just be an out of date hack, for an already out of date version of vb.. :monster:

I don't see how it does tbh :awesome:

Query, irritating how so? Irritating that it doesn't show up there? Again, may be out of date.. a hack that does one thing in one section should do the same in all sections.

Irritating in that that's where I, personally, run into the whole "who the hell is this person?" issue most often.
