The mag’s score is the first major review from an English-speaking publication, as far as we’re aware.

“Big” Dave McCarthy’s written the piece, concluding, “This is the real deal. Final Fantasy XIII makes the hours pass like minutes – a testament to the way the game teases you along with one incentive or another at just the right time, every time.

“It’s next generation Final Fantasy, and that’s all you need to know.”
It’s out in the US and Europe on March 9 for both 360 and PS3.

Whee! I'm fast at answering to new bits of news! :wacky:

That means FFXIII has one score less than the FFXII reviews in the west as well. I seem to recall many FFXII scores getting a perfect 10/10.

I'm glad the score isn't low. 9/10 is still a phenomenal score for a game where a lot of negativity has been reported by various gamers. At least this is a good indication that FFXIII isn't that bad of a game.

Then again, many people hated FFXII anyway despite its high scores. It could well happen again with FFXIII, with groups of haters.

SQUEE!!!! XD

Loving the whole hours into minutes part!! Makes it sound more epic and interesting. I cant wait, Ill have to trade load of games in for this baby!!!

Long read.

These reviews keep bouncing all over the place with their reviews, either they absolutely hated it or they fell in love with it.

I'm actually really surprised to see that Ifrit is making an appearance. I don't think that I've ever read about that anywhere, and it makes me wonder where exactly he'll be showing up.

No NPCs, and no towns... they really are going over the top with trying to be Westernized. That seems like it will take a lot away from the game. I was excited to see that the characters talk to you while you're walking around- until I realized that characters do that in Western games.

It seems like they're keeping up with the story, though- seeing as how you'll be spending 40% of your time watching cut-scenes.

Thanks for the upload, Ryan. :dave:

Wow its reat to here that some people are loving XIII and are waiting to hell for it like me xD Im really happy to see this get a 9 out of 10. sTUPID HONG KONG AMIN MAGAZINE! So yeah everythin looks awesome and reat review overall thanks for all this Ryan!

Another game that will split the fanbase it seems like. Just like FFVIII, and I guess FFXII but that was more overwhelming hatred as far as I could see (at least from normal gamers, not the critics).

Famitsu really is a horrible source for FF games because have they ever given a FF game under a 35/40? Then that Hong Kong one was bad because they have bad blood against the Japanese or something. It's very hard to find reliable reviews right now...

Wow, all that info on XIII and all I notice is how much that timeline at the top of page two of the review fails. It covers X-2 but not X, saying X-2 was the first FF on PS2. It says XI was never released in Europe, yet I've met plenty of EU players.

So where are all the "reviews are meaningless" and "I'll reserve judgement until I play it myself" comments? :P Ah well. I guess that when a review reads the way you want it to read, that alone makes in a competent review :D

Truthfully, I only read reviews to see if there are any technical problems with a game. No other person can tell me if I will like a story or not. Its personal preference.

*now feels lousy for posting one of those comments* XD

Seriously, these reviews are bouncing all over the place like freakin' Tigger in a bouncy castle. Although I'll admit if I was going to pay any attention to reviews at all, it'd be one like that and not one from a Hong Kong magazine I've never even heard of. Still, I'm buying the game regardless of what the reviews say (probably...voice acting is going to make or break it for me) so...meh. Its unsurprising to see it got such a high score, really. Things like linearity and no towns are such pathetically petty complaints...

These guys were overly excited about the graphics, I think. It does seem to be a much fairer review than any before it, though. The linear story and no towns/npcs is only bad if you think it's bad personally. It doesn't affect anyone else, because I may like a linear story and no towns/npcs. That's why you can't trust any review, even ones that you like. They're filled to the brim with opinions, and only by playing the game can you truly know if you like the game or not.

Wow, That is just amazing...I can't wait to play it...

Quote from my friend...

"I think I'm going to LITERALLY JIZZ MY PANTS when I play that game!!!!"

and only by playing the game can you truly know if you like the game or not.

We respectfully disagree. We've read enough about the gameplay of the game, how linear it is, no towns, ect... to come to the conclusion that we weren't going to like it.

Then we watched livestreams and gameplay videos and saw that we weren't going to like it.

Even in this review where the person loves the game, everything that we're reading just fills our cup full of hate to this game.

It’s next generation Final Fantasy, and that’s all you need to know.

Sure, it's the next gen FF, we'll give you that. However, if that's the case, then we absolutely despise it. :mokken:

(Oh, and no, that isn't all we need to know. We would like to think that we need more than that for a valid opinion. /sarcasm)

Thanks for the scans Cid. The Edions (sp) looks amazing, love Odin and Shiva. The FF family tree thingie looks interesting.

From what I've read his appearance is very short lived. He's supposed to be
in an Eidolon show or something in Nautilus alongside Carbuncle and Siren

I guess that explains why Siren and Carbuncle have been previously shown in earlier trailers then. I knew they couldn't be the same types of Eidolons such as Odin and Brynhildr, so I was wondering what they were.

Only show Eidolons? That's disappointing, FF summons reduced to a circus or something.
:hmmm:

Yeah, you can't even get to use them in a minigame or something D: They're just meant to be used as show (certainly Siren and Ifrit). I think Carbuncle's meant to be a toy or something
