Your four heroes of light classes?

I'm just wondering, for those of you who have played the game, what was your choices for classes near the beginning? I always chose White Mage, Thief, Monk and Warrior for my four classes. I named the White Mage character after myself (as I used to do all the time back then) and the other characters were named after friends of mine. That was the game where I really fell in love with white mages.^^
 
I just went with the traditional warrior, monk, black, white. Problem was that I never really progressed very far because I got tired of the game...too slow paced and the storyline and dialogue is really really simple and grinding takes too long (can't even go fast with the emulator because you freaking miss when you all attack the same enemy) and [insert many other things that usually go wrong with a prototype for a new genre].

But with how far I went in the game, my guess is if I just made all my characters warriors, the game would be eezy peezy. Just very capital intensive since equipment costs a bitch.

Yeah it definitely is a game of time and patience when you think about it. If you lack the patience for grinding chances are you're not going to enjoy it very much.

My first play through was with Warrior, Thief, Black and White mages. I didn't get very far the first time I played because I got bored around the beginning but then I played the game again, this time more determined to whip its ass and have developed patience to level up before each boss (As I did with Final Fantasy VII before it). That time I chose Warrior, Red Mage, Monk and White Mage. The Warrior and Red Mage were mainly for offense, but I took full advantage of the Red Mage's ability to learn both black and white magic while being able to fight with a sword alongside my Warrior. The White Mage was there for exclusive healing when I needed the Red Mage to attack and the Monk was more muscle, and man once he got stronger throughout the game he started doing a TON of damage to enemies.

It was enjoyable and I still mark out to
the Link reference once you're in the city of elves

I've only ever played the game as a Warrior, Monk, Thief and Red Mage. I couldn't be bothered with either the Black or White Mages, as they're very limited. The Red Mage was fine for me, as I didn't use each and every spell anyway, so balancing between available white and black magic was pretty easy.
Saying that, I've only ever played the game two or three times, and I didn't get very far either time. Furthest I got was the Elf Village, where Link lies.

Grinding wasn't so bad I guess, a little more than what I was used to though.
The ease in which you could get lost kind of irked me though.
I remember the first time I played I got lost early on and my team was slaughtered by some passing monsters. -.-
 
Both times I've played through the game (wellllll, I've never played through the original game, just the Origins and Dawn of Souls versions) I've played Warrior, Monk, Black Mage, White Mage. Playing as anything else just seems wrong. Everything a Red Mage does another class can do better, though it is a shame because I do appreciate their awesome pimp hats. I guess I could exchange my White Mage for a Thief. That would change up the game mechanics a bit, healing with stolen items instead of with magic, but I got so attached to the White Mage class in later installments it seems wrong not to have one.
 
wow, i'm surprised that you identify so much with white mages...i'm partial to warriors...i thought most people were.

anyways, my party was a warrior, thief, black mage and white mage. I played it again with a monk, red mage, white mage and warrior.
 
I found that I had the best line up with the Warrior, Thief, White Mage, Red Mage. I'm not really big on offensive magic so I didn't really need a Black Mage but I did want the benefit of having another White one so I just went with the Red (though I think white and black are supposed to make grey but I guess they thought that'd be too bland). And I used a Thief for the soul reason that they become Ninjas. That was literally my only reason.
 
I went with: Warrior, Black Mage, White Mage, and Red Mage.
Red mages definitely get the ass-end, but I always found them to be useful.
 
I chose Warrior, Warrior, Red Mage and White Mage. Weird choices, but I finished the game with those classes (ps1 origins).
 
I have only played the game one time through and I used Fighter, Thief, White, Black. Now I have Knight, Ninja, White Wiz, Black Wiz.

I knew my Thief would turn into a beautiful butterfly... I mean Ninja after his almost useless nature for 15 levels...

My only problem in my group still remains him. When im in The Temple of Fiends (Revisited) he almost gets 3 shotted by Gas Dragons. Also on Lich my entire group gets 4 shotted. It's either really bad luck or I'm just too low level.

Im at level 20 and all my characters have max gear listed in all the game FAQs provided.

Anyway im still leveling a bit. Im going to try again at level 25 and well see what happens. Im playing the classic game on the nes, no remakes.
 
Warrior, thief, black mage and white mage.

But it was an accident. I chose the default classes, not knowing that you can also choose others. I wish I could replace the thief with the monk. I thought the thief is needed for stealing, etc. But his class name i just for the sake of the luck stat and a couple other stats.

Anyways, black mage is a must in my opinion. This game is full of random encounters with many monsters at the same time. Only black mage/red mage can do damage to all enemies at once, aside from dia/diara/diaga of the white mage. The white mage is also a must, needless to say.

The storyline is kind of dull. But that's alright since it's the very first final fantasy. I just wish the characters can actually talk. They have zero character development. But at least it gives you the feeling that you are actually 'them'.
 
I choose warrior, black mage, monk ,and red mage in my opinion I think I should have chosen white mage instead of red mage. the healing of the white mage would have helped me so much because you don't get good healing from red mage or knight. Still I beat the game with this team I just wish I choose different people.
 
Black Mage, Warrior, White Mage, Monk

I named them after my friends in real life, so I picked classes that I thought, if we were really in this universe, fit them better. I was the Black Mage, and so on.

Warrior has never really been to my liking either, but..eh, you need a powerhouse. And Monks, after LV10, because unrealistic, multiple hitting, powerhouses. So, two mages, and two powerhouses seemed to work.

I really don't like Thief and Red Mage, though, so..I probably wouldn't have picked them anyway. Although, I really really wish I was able to get Ninja. :/ I may replay the game again with Thief and Red Mage just to use them, you know?
 
Warrior, Theif, White and Black mage.

to be honest the games so easy id didn't matter which i picked i'd still pwn the game but i like the upgrades for theif and warrior. as for Black mages, seeing as the bosses are mostly elementals, he was a must, and white mages are self explanitory.

i've never really liked monks, they take too much damage, and red mages fail because their magic is ... volatile but also limited. (Can't learn as much high level magic as a pure caster.)
 
Warrior, White Mage, Black Mage and Warrior

Simple party Warriors take all the damage and attack and Black Mage for any monster with elemental weakness and White Mage is just to heal the Warriors. Only for the armor and weapons cost to much I would go through the game with four Warriors to see whats its like.

I don't use Thief's and Red Mage classes as the Thief is only good when he turns into a Ninja and I don't like the way the Red Mage can't learn high level black and white magic spells.
 
I chose a warrior, a theif, a white mage, and a red mage.

The warrior was a must....the white mage was practical, the red mage is my jack of all trades..and I really couldn't decide who I wanted in my party after I chose those three. I went with the thief..and I'm wishing I went with the monk instead because I heard they turn into a ninja at some point :( To me, the thief is almost worthless...my steal rate is very low and he is not a very good fighter. I would go back and start another game, but I got so far that it would almost be a complete waste if I did.
 
I took:

Warrior/Knight (Main physical attacker, used to take out most opponents. Tank & Meatshield)
White Mage/White Wizard (Healer. Thats pretty much all. I used the Healing Staff to restore HP free of MP Cost)
Black Mage/Black Wizard (Magic attacker. Used to deal elemental damage most.)
Red Mage/Red Wizard (Used to buffer up the team in boss battles, otherwise, backup attacker before backup healer.)

People normally have a Thief instead of Red Mage, but I think that they miss out on some more important points when doing that. Red Mage is there to be the balanced character.

Actually, the upgrade classes are this:

Warrior > Knight
White Mage > White Wizard
Black Mage > Black Wizard
Red Mage > Red Wizard
Thief > Ninja
Monk > Master

If you go to the castle of trials, or whatever its called, I forgot :gasp: then go to Bahamut in the dragon caves with the Rat Tail then he will upgrade your team. In your case, you'd be left with a Knight, a White Wizard, a Red Wizard & a Ninja.

However, Ninja seems less needed to me. Master seems far more potent. It deals better damage, at the price of magic.

I first started with Warrior, Thief, Black Mage, White Mage. I got their class up before they hit lvl 25.

After that I gave myself ridiculous challenges like all white mages or all monks. (All monks was a total tank by the way. Forget the fighter difficulty quotient. It's all about the monk difficulty quotient.)
