Final Fantasy XIII was originally a PlayStation 3 exclusive, but ended up making the switch to multiplatform PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Sister project Final Fantasy Versus XIII was also originally a PlayStation 3 exclusive, and has stayed as such since its announcement.

The various Versus trailers that we've seen since FFXIII's multiplatform switch have made it clear that this particular FF game would be PS3-only worldwide. But CEO Yoichi Wada was less firm on this stance during a Q&A session that concluded an investors meeting today in Tokyo.

As reported at Impress Watch, when asked if it would be best to give Versus a multiplatform release on Xbox 360, Wada replied "We'll be looking into it internally until right before the formal announcement."

The question was asked in relation to Final Fantasy XIII and the possibility of the game's Xbox 360 release having helped to extend sales overseas.

By "formal announcement," Wada is presumably referring to the proper unveiling of Versus. While we've seen plenty of trailers for the game, most recently via a short teaser clip at December's Jump Festa event, Square Enix has yet to show gameplay footage outside of some camera-grabbed teaser footage that was shown at last year's Tokyo Game Show.

The game's formal unveiling is widely expected to take place at next month's E3 expo in Los Angeles, although director Tetsuya Nomura has given some hints that it could come later.

Well im quite a sony fanboy so I hate to see Versus Multi-platform. If they do it multi-platform then they should stfu about other future titles to be ps3 exclusive cuz apparently their statements are not high in credibility. So they should say it from the get go and not like this cat and mouse/fake ass game they seem to be playing.

I dont care IF it will appear on xbox as well, but It does piss me off how they are misleading the customers.

i really don't see how it affects u in any way for them to release it on other consoles, so it's not ps3 "exclusive" hardly reduces the quality of the game, just means more people can enjoy it providing more sales and improving the company that you love.

Sharing is Caring! :)

I don't own a 360 but I think them going multi-platform is the smart thing to do. However, FFXIII didn't look all that good on the 360, the differences were more obvious than other titles. Mostly because it was built for the PS3 and that machine has superior hardware, they had to tone down the graphics which is the games biggest merit (okay okay I'm done hatin' :hmph:)

I actually think you've hit a good point, Versus has been in development what now, around 4 and a half years? There were noticeable differences between the 360 version and the PS3 version and Square-Enix even tried to cover it up by using photoshopped screenshots. Are Square-Enix really stupid enough to believe they could catch up on 4 and a half years of work without there being a difference? And if they start from scratch the PS3 version will have been out for about 2/3 years so no one would care about it anymore. If they were going to go multiplatform, this should have chosen to do so earlier. I'm glad I have a PS3.

I kind of expected this sooner or later. Seeing as though FFXIII on the 360 wasn't as much of a sales disaster as I thought it would be, I can see why they would want to bring Versus to the 360 as well. Bigger audience, more money, money is good etc.

But on a pragmatic level, good luck with that. Firstly, I can't imagine that Nomura would be happy. Being the Sony loyalist that he is, he would just look at this with disbelief. The game has been optimised for the PS3 for this long and suddenly his bosses come in and demand that he make a 360 version as well? As Ryan said, how on earth are you expected to make a 360 version look even a quarter as pretty as the PS3 version? Face it, the 360 version will look nearly-infinitely worse than its counterpart.

Not that graphics and visuals are everything of course, but it's highly unfair for the PS3 to lose (yet) another exclusive. Oh, and secondly - SE is going to face a massive backlash. They apparently lied when it came to FFXIII. They will never be taken seriously again if they do a u-turn for Versus.

I like the XBAWKZ, but I do not want them to go multi-platform with this. This will do nothing more but to give SE more excuses to be lazy and release another shit game, while blaming it on the hardware. ISN'T THAT RIGHT, FFXIII? -__-

Multi-platform? :britt: Yay!

I think this is the smartest thing SE could do for their dying franchise.

Oh, hush. Just because you didn't like FFXIII doesn't make it a bad game.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think I'm becoming more and more of a system fanboy each day. In hindsight I don't really care about multiplatform (seriously, I'd love me some 360 games on the PS3), but a lot of the reason why I got a PS3 was for the exclusives I was interested in, but seeing most of the games I have an interest in available on the XBOX 360 anyways, I would've risked the RROD and just got that system instead >_<

But I made my bed, so I gotta lie in it *sighs*

Yes it does. :mokken:

Just kidding, but words cannot describe how much I hate that game. O_O

You could always go back and get an XBAWKZtreesixdy as well. Save up some cash and party hardy.

Though, the reason why I say that SE can just make another shitty game and get away with it is because they did just that. They gave you a massively linear experience, then blamed it on the hardware. Which led to people pointing fingers at the poor XBAWKZ and said it was its fault. If they don't go multi-platform, they can't use the XBAWKZ as a scapegoat this time. :mokken:

Oh god. I hope it doesnt. Like others said, the differences on the consoles were pretty significant.

Plus, no matter what Wada says, they had to cut parts of the game out to get the game up and running on the 360, so they could have a simultaneous release worldwide. He can say it all he wants that the 360 version had nothing to do with the game having cut content, but by all means, you'd have to be naive to believe that.

If the same happens with Versus, Im going to be highly pissed. I could care less if its on both consoles, but if the game itself suffers for it, that's when Im irritated.

Oh ok wow that just crushed me BAD. I thought Versus is gonna ps3 only. Gah I think ill have to ge it on 360 then methinks or I can always hope this announcement is just boshit :dave: As I really wanted VERSUS XIII PS3 ONLY. But if it does come on 360 ill get it on that probably.

Why would you say you would get it on the 360? From past history with FFXIII, it looked worse than the 360 version. At least wait and see how it stacks up.

all i can say about this is...haha, oh wada.

nomura will be pissed, as will all of the staff. ALL of the staff.

Meh I couldn't care less. I talked to some guy who works in a game shop the other day and he said that apparently they reduce the price of multi-platform games faster than exclusives. So alls well that ends well.

...and at the end of the day it just means more people will have the opportunity to play it.
