Why was this guy sooooooo weak? He had many years where he could build up his strength, sure he had Sin and the final aeon to protect him, but doesnt it seem strange just how weak he turned out to be?

Well, he was a parasite thingy. I suppose he never thought he'd need to defend him self and such. Seeing how the Sin cycle seemed to be unbreakable; so I suppose he didn't even bother to work on him self.

Several possible answers to that... and it would take a much longer post than I feel like making to flesh it all out.

for starters, it is somewhat consistent with strong authority figures. It's possible he was just overconfident in the Final Aeon and Sin that he never bothered increasing his own strength. Which is understandable considering how long he went without being defeated. Or perhaps he's such a weak individual that he needed the FA and Sin to protect him.

I'm sure there is a lot of potential symbolism in there somewhere, and there will likely be about 20 posts on it within the next day.Good question though, I hadn't really thought of it before.

Summoning sin the first time would have probably almost killed him. So after a thousand years of raping the final aeon and resummoning sin his strength would have understandably declined.

It's quite possible that "the summoning" itself was significantly taxing (the creation of Sin AND maintenance of Zanakarkand), thereby influencing his evident lack of offensive prowess.
The above would also justify his lack of offensive capabilities - as 'Bahamut' said: "he lives only to summon", implying that there was no reason for him to adopt advanced means of eliminating foes that Sin could not manage, further implying complacency... though let's face it, he spent thousands of years being unchallenged.

Ultimately, the lack of need to focus on an offensive capacity was his demise, though it doesn't seem far-fetched to even assume he was relatively safe from needing to resort to as much.

It didnt surprise me he was weak. Sin was his armour, without his armour he was weak and vulnerable. In all those years know one thought of a way to beat sin permanently, he probadly wasnt expecting anyone to come along and defeat him.

He's a summoner remember, and a summoner without an Aeon (or guardians) can be easy pickings. Even though he wasn't really human anymore, he still didn't have the strength he needed.

Plus, noone had ever opposed him in a fight, he summoned Sin, took over Zaon's Aeon, reformed Sin and so on until he took over Braska's Final Aeon. So he himself has never really needed to fight, he's always had an Aeon/Sin to do that for him. So when Braska's Final Aeon is out of the mix, he tries to use your own Aeons against you, none of them strong enough to have the same effect as the Final Aeon. He's left exposed.

Plus, having Auto-Life automatically on your party doesn't make the battle any harder lol.

^ I agree, just like Lurid mentioned about what Bahamut said "He lives only to summon", and just like DLFlux said it's kind of obvious that he's a summoner and summoners need something to protect them otherwise they can be easily killed, and I thought that he's weak, since Sin was his armor, needing something like that is because you're too weak to protect yourself. -__-

Then again, maybe the staff working on the game, mainly the character designer, animator and programmer, couldn't be bothered with making Yu Yevon look anymore impressive or have better stats because it was the end of the game and they couldn't wait for the massive celebration party.

Well when i first battled him i was kind of gettin owned cause i could only hit 9999 but it took a while but i finally killed him.
Then i trained ma people and i decided im gona vs him again and i killed him in 1 shot wit 99999 =/
But the stupid thing was U CANT DIE! every time he kills you, you just come back to life anyway his imposibol to lose to.
But i dont know why he is so weak =/

Yeah omg his guy was just so freakin weak!!!! I casted reflect on him and curaga kept reflecting to me and I just owned him with aurons banishing blade and Tidus. Why was he so easy lol.

Yu Yevon Was Weak Because He Always Used The Strength Of The Final Aeon To Kill Off The Summoners But Since Yuna Had No Final Aeon You Could Kill Off The Weaker Aeons And Keep Him From Drawing Strength From The Aeons To Expose Him And Yes He Was Quite Easy But I Was'nt Really Expecting A Difficult Fight But It Was Rather Dissapointing On How Simple He Was.

Story wise I found it an apt metaphor: He was but a whisper, an idea, but everyone payed homage and reverence to sin and so it grew, until the movement outgrew its originator. I also agree that it is consistent with weak authority figures at the head of powerful regimes.

As a gameplay note: Braska's Final Aeon was hard enough. I suppose there was no need for Yu Yevon, but what did you expect with the likes of Cloud of Darkness, Zemus, Zeromus, Adel, Ultamecia, and Necron. The last baddie cannot really ever be the last baddie. At least this one went down quickly

I'd just like to throw out a thought that hasn't been brought up yet. When I first fought Yu Yevon it took forever. He was easy, obviously as he didn't hit you at all. But he did force your Aeons to fight against you which could have been bad to some people depending on how you played.

I think the reason he was so weak is because, at the end of the game, if you hadn't played through like some (capturing 10 of every monster, filling the whole Sphere Grid, beating every monster in the arena) then Yu Yevon is pretty hard. Maybe they just got lazy, Square Enix, if you'll notice, does do that a lot.

He's weak because he has
99,999 HP and it's possible to hit for 99,999 damage. Plus, for the whole fight, everyone has Auto life on automatically, making it almost impossible to lose.

I just think it was something Square Soft overlooked when they were making the game. Your characters in FFX can become no doubt the most powerful characters in any FF game to-date. With their HP reaching over 9,999 as well as their attacks maxxing out at 99,999 and multi-hit attacks going for great, I think Square forgot that the time the final boss came around, he may be a tad easy.

I easily took him, all the Aeons, as well as Sin down the first time, no problemo. It was somewhat disappointing as I wanted a harder more epic battle, but it was meaningful all the same.

First time I played through I didn't do everything, in fact I only did was storyline mandatory. I only beat Belgemine once. I didn't get any of Auron's extra overdrives (which confused me, coz I didn't know why not) and when I got to Yu Yevon he was hard. I didn't have Break Damage Limit so he took awhile to beat. I remember dying lots of times and thanking god for Auto-Life.
