Why do the characters look like crap?

am i the only one who thought that the character models in FF XII look really mis-shapen? like Vaan has some kindof weird excuse for a six-pack where his abs should be... they all have mutated faces too. did anyone else notice or am i going insane @__@
 
Vaan did have an ...odd body. He had an irritating nose aswel, dunno what it is but it really bugs me. Other than that the rest didn't bother me much lol
 
The characters didn't look like crap. They were pretty...normal, so I don't see the issue. They were kinda odd in X though.
 
The only thing that annoyed me with the characters designs were the white spots they had on their noses O_O

And the clothes on some of them, Vaans vest/top thing was stupid, and Ashes skirt was two peices of material held together by a staple and a prayer.
 
She was wearing more then Rikku ever did. Especially X-2's Rikku.
 
yes that's it right there, the noses annoy me so much. it's nice to not be losing my mind :P

but the characters in X look nice to me. except that weird mouth-moving thing they did when they talk sometimes, like where their mouth just opens and closes.
but i digress.

i seriously was annoye by how they all had weird round noses that were shiny lookin. the cinematics look, fine... where did it go wrong
 
The faces were odd, but I think that was just down to the graphic rendering instead of actual design as they all have it. Vaan's nose looked as if he just had surgical restoration after one too many lines of white.

If you think they look retarded in XII wait and see what they look like in Revenant Wings. All their faces just look so weird. As for Penelo, she looks like a demon o_O
 
It kind of annoyed me that everyone was blond and tanned, kind of like people who hang out on the beach all day and tan.

Vaan, Rassler, Basch, and Ashe even looked like they all could have been related. :O

And like everyone else has probably said, Vaan's chest scares me. XD
 
the only character i had a problem was Vaan. his outfit...hair...nose...ABS..ugghh, just nasty and deformed >_<. he looks likemy gay friend frank xD i liked his voice though, thats about it o.o oh and migelos voice made me wanna puke ._.
 
I did notice how there was no true Diversity within the races and the looks between each character.

In X you had everyone come from different backgrounds and so different from one another..

While in XII, it was as if they were all...the same in a way. Of course they had their differences but, it just wasn't as diverse as the previous.

Still a good game though. ^__^;; Amd yes, the noses did look a bit weird, especially Vaan's but I eventually got over that. lol.
 
They don't look crap its just that square enix was trying a new graphics engine and new types of drawings.
 
Mhm...They were actually pushing the PS2 to it's limit, especially with the FMV scenes. It was top-notch graphics within this game. At least that is my honest opinion. ^___^;;

Yeah, Vaan looked a bit weird with his nose but, hey, it happens.

Wtf is up with the new trend of having the main character in a half-jacket...?

Squall, Tidus, now Vaan? wtfff? haha.
 
The only problem I had was with Vaan. He looked like a deformed monkey with that nose of his. And his clothing design was really poor. >.> It looked as if they overdid it or something...I really did not like it at all.

Other than that, the others looked fine to me, and they do have that unique look about them, especially Fran. Penelo though, not so much. I thought her character design was rather plain, but certainly better than Vaan, in my opinion.
 
I remember reading somewhere that the inspiration for characters like Vaan and Tidus is the male jrock singe Gackt- then again he's had so much plastic surgery to try and maintain his youth its not really a surprise that Vaan looks a bit weird if he is inspired by Gackt.

The resemblances are actually quite striking between Vaan and Gackt or Tidus and Gackt when you compare them :) .
 
Vaan was the total weirdo in FFXII his chest is weird also his nose, and his clothes design.
Penelo is quite annoying and I didn't like the clothes design she had.
well actually I didn't like any characters (from the one you play with) clothes design, it was crap, FFX design was much better. D:

Technically; the graphics weren't the best.

SE use a trick there. All characters were modeled with less than the half of polygons with SE make all the FFXs characters. What they made to make them look that goods, is that they (besides change the art direction) is to improve the textures.

So, instead of when you get close to an object/character/whatever and the textures get blur and looks ugly; in FFXII the textures goes better and better.

So, the graphics by itself weren't the best; what makes them look that stunning were the textures =P And in my opinion; they made an awesome job! :3
 
... Aren't the textures the graphics themselves? =\ I also thought that the character models were better done.

Although, in the FMVs, I noticed a drop in quality. The skin doesn't look remotely realistic and the characters look like they've been made from plasticine. Or at least that's what I thought.
 
i think the reason that all the characters look lke crap is because of the time era. ince the tie era is war era, then tht must explain why they are designed like crap. honostly baltheir is best designed chracter right next to ashe and fran. other than those three the others suck. and badly designed.
