What do you do to occupy yourself when your power goes out? Almost everything I do when I'm bored requires electricity, but today I had a blackout for about 6 hours, so I decided to clean my room (a rare decision) and then I went to the park to play tennis with my friend who was at my house at the time, all in all I had a fairly good day without electricity (even though it rained on us)

What about you guys?

I usually end up going to hang out with friends. At night, not necessarily in a blackout, I'm really poor, and we have our electricity shut off when we can't pay rent, and then we usually all sleep in the living room (my family and I) and talk to each other until we can sleep. We gather all the blankets and stuff, but we still space out pretty far. it's just nice to be able to talk to someone in a situation like that. We tell 'Your mom's so fat...' jokes, too.
My little brother made up some funny ones when he was like 7.
'Your mom is so fat she killed a dog!'
What the fuck does that even mean? xD

Wow, your family sounds pretty close =P

Ehhm, usually when we have a black out during the evening its fun cause I'd take out the old candles and put them absolutely everywhere, its makes a nice change, (also reminds me of Christmas) not to mention its a massive fire hazard.
And during the day, i dunno really. If i was out i wouldn't know, but if i was staying in, i wouldn't leave the house just because there was a power cut, I'd probably find plenty of things to occupy myself with.

I normally just go on the PSP or something...or read a book since a decent book can be read for a constant few hours. :)
Our family is really close but when it comes down to power cuts we just normally do our own thing really. :wacky:

We eat. We eat the food from the fridge and just talk amongst ourselves. It's a nice feeling. The cold of the rain together with a sandwich and a drink and family.

Not to mention the ghost stories. :monster:

I read a book, draw pictures, write a story or play on my DS or listen to mp3 till the battery is dead.
But I don't really get blackouts here. And if I do its usually fixed rather quick.

The only time that power cuts affects me, is when I'm not going out at night. What I do depends on what time it is, normally I just try and go to sleep even if it's before 11. If I can't go to sleep I listen to my Ipod, read and book and text my friends until the power comes back on or, I go to bed.

Last time it had cut out I had just got back from work, lucklily mate was with me so we just had a bit of banter til it came back on

Power cuts seem to happen in the evening here so I usually just end up twiddling my thumbs til it comes back on, I'l just stick my headphones in and listen to music and have the niggling thought at the back of my head about my freezer defrosting

I don't do anything rly, I just sit there bored til it comes back on

Two letters:

D. S.

Unless one of my roommates is around to talk to or go and do something with.

this is quite freaky because i had a blackout last night and i didnt really affect me at all since i have this wierd power block thing for camping so i hooked my tv and ps2 up and played a whole lot of games, although i got really chessed when the blackout started because i was playing FFVI and hadnt saved for a while so i lost all that and one of my old memory cards got bugged so all the save files are useless, luckily it was for non-RPG games that i dont really play anymore

I love when these happen because I'm one of those weird people who can live without it for a couple of days. I think the last time we had a blackout I ended up camping in my backyard with some friends and we basically just pretended like we were camping. We had a little bonfire and some marshmallows and basically just hung out.

It's quite fun back in the Phillippines. My cousins and I would always try to scare the adults (like that's gonna happen) and goof around inside the house. But now, it's nothing really. No fun at all since all I really do is just lay down and wait for sleep to come. How boring, I know.

A few years ago, there was mass flooding all around Carlisle and a few areas, so a lot of the Northern part of the county was without power for three or four days. I just spent the daylight hours playing Pokemon with my mates and then in the evening, I played board games with my parents or listened to my mp3 player. The evenings were longer though, because it happened in January. >>

The power only seems to go out after nightfall at my house. There isn't a whole lot to do in the pitch black. I usually end up just going to sleep...

If the power were to go off during the day, I'd just jog around town or sit around with some friends and brainstorm for something to do...which means we'd end up sitting around for a few hours doing nothing until we got our videogames/computers back. Sorta sad, but screw it.

Haha, oh boy. I usually do random things, even though--when I'm bored normally, and that's with power--I'm quite reliant on my imagination; it gets worse when the power goes out. Luckily, I have a laptop that will last for a good 2 hours on battery life, so if I'm SOoL with no internet, I may stay on the computer to play games or write. If or when the laptop runs out, I may write long hand/draw or do silly things like put the strainer bowl on top of my head and pretend I'm in some kind of disaster movie.

My cat is also a good source of entertainment as she doesn't require electricity, so chances are I'll play with her.

Oh and my cell phone has AIM and MSN and all that good stuff. I'll probably be texting/chatting as well.

Whener the power goes off here it's usually because the meter runs out. Last time we had an actual powercut was at easter when I was at a friend's for the weekend. It went off just as we about to cook breakfast (she had a gas powered grill so we had bacon sammiches instead) and stayed off for about two hours so when boredom set in we had to play some shitty boardgame. It teased us by coming back on for like, five seconds too. We were all "Yay it's back on lets play GH...fuck it's off again >.<". Apparantly it went off again later in the afternoon when we went up town to get some food, but it was back on by the time we got back so we didn't care :monster:

When the power goes out... my mum goes to the meter and turns it back on. >_> We don't have a lot of powercuts and they're never that long. Like, I'll be watching tv and then it will switch off and it will all go dark, and then a second later it will come back on again. So... I can't really say I do an awful lot during them. :wacky:

Mmm I often resort to old fashioned methods of entertainment hehe. Read a book... (Provided I have a torch or light of course), sleep... Go over to a friends and pester them relentlessly :P The usual ^~.
