So this assuming that it isn't going be versus and I am going make the assumption that it will be Final Fantasy XV (but I wont call it that for now)

Since Square said that there will be a "new Final fantasy on the Playstation 4" What do you want to see on it?

For me I want to see a step back into the mid evil era, as much as I like some Sci-fi things, I much rather see Final Fantasy go back to a Mid-evil time feel.

Also A return to Cid as a pilot and on that note... AIRSHIPS!!!! Not space ships or anything else, I want a legit Airship again! I want to fly around on a Airship and see the whole world... and that will bring me to my next point...

A open world map!
don't get me wrong about the whole X and XII click and get beamed there kind of thing, that is alright, but I wanna be able to fly around and see little islands that hold secret items, or bosses.

Also on the not of bosses
I want secret bosses or optional bosses to be a big thing in the game again! and not with DLC's I want to fight enemies like the Dragon's in FFVI or Weapons in FFVII, or the secret Summons in FF IV! and please have it in the game and not as DLC!

I much rather see Final Fantasy go back to a Mid-evil time feel.!

Mid-evil? :wacky:

So were the Dark Ages the Early-evil Ages and the Early Modern period the Late-evil Ages? Well, glad to be in the Post-evil Age then. :lew:

--------------

1) a non-human main protagonist. I wonder if they would dare go with something as ballsy as that. Let's look at gaming in general - how many protagonists are actually non-humans (and by that, I mean they're distinctly non-human in terms of origin and aesthetics, not something like Skyrim's Dragonborn or the fact that you're a demon in Disgaea who looks like a kid with the voice of Rita Repulsa)? I'd love to see a non-human main character. Because that would be a fresh new take on Final Fantasy. Especially after the Sasuke douche-twin that Noctis seems to resemble, and the Lightning masturbatory bullshit from Toriyama for these last few years.

2) Failing that, how about some more non-human party members in general? And I mean ones that definitely look aesthetically non-human, so I'm on about more Red XIIIs and Kimahris than Frans. Why am I stuck with a bunch of badly dressed humans only in a fantasy role-playing game? C'mon, get creative with something, for God's sake. Your world is supposed to be inhabited by a wide variety of indigenous races.

3) Can we have a main protagonist who DOESN'T look like he's in a J-pop group, or a token teenager that we are supposed to believe are there to appeal to Japanese players? It's disappointing to realise that Basch could have been the main hero of FFXII, as opposed to the tabula rasa teenage urchin that is Vaan. Why? Ohhh, supposedly because the producers suddenly thought that having an older main character with scars who isn't a pretty boy MIGHT be harmful somehow...

4) Inventive sidequests. Hunting down marks is fine and all, but if that's all you have, the player may as well boot up Monster Hunter instead. How about secret locations that you can accidentally find? And an obligatory Golden Saucer location that does actually have a range of minigames, and that doesn't bully you into forking over for more content via DLC?

5) A return to a steampunk fantasy setting. I picture things like FFVI and FFIX. Heck, I'd love to see something like Narshe or Lindblum done with the Luminous Engine on next-gen hardware, while elsewhere in the industry, cyberpunk seems slowly becoming a trend.

6) I want a story that can prove the genre is capable of telling something compelling and well-written. I want a story that is penned by an actual writer who isn't going to resort to plodding in the usual tropes that you may often find in anime. I want a story that sticks to a theme and motif coherently and doesn't decide to go veering off course to a wildly different direction towards the end or in a sequel.

7) I would also like a decent band of characters that don't make me want to sterilise someone. I don't more variations of a whiny kid. I don't want more variations of the gung ho! shounen like Snow. I also would like to see more decent female characters pop up. Looking at that recent polling that saw Lightning win, I came to realise just how few female characters I actually care much about, or like.

8) I would like someone else other than Nomura to handle the character designs. Seriously, I hate the douche look of Noctis. God knows how anyone would find him hot. I hate the ridiculous outfits that Nomura seemed poised to give Lightning for her third outing. I was not impressed with Serah's outfit in FFXIII-2. Lulu's belt dress in FFX is the most ridiculously embarrassing thing ever. I mean, yes, I know Nomura is capable of designs like Stella, but a lot of the time, he's either phoning it in, or just going so overboard that the franchise deserves to be mocked for its absolutely ridiculous designs.

Seriously, no. Enough of Nomura. Get Akihiko Yoshida. It fits the franchise a lot better.

9) Hiroyuki Ito for director. No, no, not the Hiroyuki Ito behind All The Bravest. I mean the famous Hiroyuki Ito who invented the ATB system, and who worked on gems like FFVI, FFIX and FFXII. I know one man alone may not have much of a tremendous effect on large-scale production and development particularly in the climate they are in, but given the man's game design philosophy, I would feel a lot more assured if he is at the helm, than the Kitase-Toriyama team.

10) Hopefully something that DOESN'T span out into a long-winded trilogy. But I'm expecting more and more direct sequels anyway, because assets and profit margins...

11) I think it's time to bring Cid back as a friendly NPC ally with a knack for airships and technology. I have enjoyed our more villainous or greyer Cids from the maniacal Doctor Cid to Cid Raines - even Cidolf Hitler in Type-0 - but I would like to see them back to what they were for this installment. Or even better, plop him in the party.

12) a stable framerate that doesn't drop to around 15fps...

13) I definitely want a sense of scale. I want a sense of exploration. I want to feel immersed in the world through a multitude of ways. I want the game design to acknowledge me as something more than an observer, and to allow me to grasp a good sense of how the world works. I want to get to know the people, its inhabitants, their ways and to have a proper foundation to walk on. I want to be rewarded for my curiosity and exploration, not to be coerced into going forward only for a shiny new cutscene.

14) FFXIII's battle system's good thing was the emphasis needed on buffing and debuffing. I would like to see more of an emphasis on buffing and debuffing, but not to the extent that we have inflated HP bars to impose upon the player an artificial form of difficulty. Also, airship VS airship sky battles. Honestly, do it.

15) Keep the traditional levelling system, but build on it. Put your Crystariums away.

16) a decent soundtrack that doesn't sound like it was composed by music students who were sent off to do individual projects for homework, but could only hastily do it a day before it was due in; or as if the composer suddenly took drugs and decided that an awful faux-metal track would be a funny inclusion.

17) A superb translation work to be done by Alexander O'Smith and his team. Had it not been for the fantastic translation work of his, complemented by a fantastic voice acting job, partially by players in the Shakespearean theatre, FFXII might not be as highly regarded to me as it is. The contrast between them and the scenes we have seen from FFXIII is kind of tragic in my opinion.

18) A decent female villain. I don't even want to remember Jihl Nabaat...if I can even remember her. I don't even want to think about what more they could have done with Judge Drace. Yeah, she was not really a villain by any means, but for both characters, I hardly ever got to know them! It was like, HEY! THE VILLAINS HAVE A WOMAN ON THEIR SIDE IN SOME FORM. KILL HER AFTER 10 MINUTES!

19) Oh yeah, I'd like a greyer, more believable villains. But at the same time, to appease those who whinged about Vayne being a bit of a nonentity, someone who can have a more personal, commanding presence to your party. You can easily go further than "I am destroying the world because I can, or because by destroying the world, I am correcting some sort of mistake that wouldn't at all justify my means of doing so. But I will do it anyway because I am irrational" or the cliché of having a band of humans bash a God and defeat it.

20) something other than a sword for our main hero...

1) Go back to turn-based, random battles. This is my number 1 want from FF. In the style of FF10 if possible.
2) World map, but not one that has hours of traveling on empty space. Put some monuments or something here and there to fill in the gaps.
3) Some non-human characters, like: Red, Fran, Cait Sith...Vivi? They're so much more interesting than humans. At least this half disguises the lack of personality that some FF characters have.
4) Go back to when the stories were decent and kept you wanting to see more. I'd go to say that, for the RPG world, FF9 was a masterpiece in story-telling that gripped you enough to make you want to keep playing 24/7...go back to those standards.
5) Emotion. Give the characters some emotion. I can't remember much emotion going on since FF10.
6) Dare I say linearity? By this I mean, linearity but with secret areas hidden around the place. FF10 is the perfect example of this imo.

I can't think of any more right now.

EDIT: After reading Fleur's post, I'll definitely add:

7) The most standard leveling system. It's simple and RPG fans like it. No need to mess around and go for something that will probably be worse. The sphere grid is the only good (amazing even) alternative imo.

Here what I want from next gen FF 'if you follow me on twitter, I ranted about this before'

1) Go back to the traditional style, more like tactics, FFXII, FFIX ETC, i hated the art style this generation, all them zippers
2) more gameplay focused, if you want to make a great story, great, but don't forget the gameplay
3) LESS TUTORIALS, i don't want the first 12 hours to be me being led through the game with my hand held like a kid walking across the street
4) focus more on your games and less on making money, I know money is your goal, but you must have a passion to makes games if you entered the games inderstry, god dam it focus on making great games for the top systems and less on crap ports and quick money ios games/quick handheld games
5) characters, while I loved caius, he the only decent character we had this generation.... most of them were either a, boring yet loved by the jp fanbase or b, children that were really annorying :rage: what happened to the rydia's, terra's, the garnets, vivi etc etc
6) don't develop 10 games at the same time, focus on one, get it released, make it a great game, then start your next project
Finally 7) don't annonce games too early, by far squares biggest downfall, why annonce versus if it still in development 6 years later, why annonce FFX HD then not show anything for over a year... why annonce that your annoncing something far too early...... just stop it please, wait til i dn... you got a game

I'll think of more i'm sure of it

Ive had ideas in my head for a ff movie or something but with the tech of PS4 these ideas can easily be implemented.

Fully controllable summons no time limit but after its hp depletes it cant be resummoned for a set of time or until you use special items like tent lmao.

7 main summons + 3 secret summons. Shiva for example when she is summoned a blizzard storm starts engulfing all enemies in realtime. Basically the whole environment changes according to the element of the summoned beast. Also the environment stays tht way for a while or realistically changes back. So landscape thts covered in snow would melt over time. I imagine this would be delicious in hot environments like deserts.

Full list of magic and better effects. Maybe the strongest of magic can actually alter the environment somehow like the summons but not in the same degree.

Controllable airships, fully controllable and a world map but realistic. So towns/buildings etc must have real scales compared to the size of the airship. Same for chocobos and all other transportation. Most definitely a rideable summon.

More non human team members, older team members and each has his or hers special class and weapons.

Battlesystem like FFXII mixed with hack and slash so no waiting.

All mascots, moomba, chocobo, moogle and a new one introduced.

2 secret summons tht can magically appear to aid you like phoenix and odin from FF8.

No medieval times its been over done, more realistic settings would be sweet, futuristic or steampunk. I like the different factions of magic, military, spirituality for summons worshipping etc.

A superboss villain. Perhaps the summons themselves are the key. They need to be found in secret temples/areas. They hold great powers. In order to wield their powers you have to show your worth, but the person doesnt matter so perhaps one bad dude seeks their powers and the hero has to stop him.

Well Final Fantasy is dead to me anyways. If FF versus comes I doubt they'll make great ff's after tht. Sigh.

I actually have a plan for the next FF title.

Rather than FFXV, I have an idea: Final Fantasy VII-2.

We've had prequels (Crisis Core, and FFX was actually in the same universe as VII) but no sequels.

(Please be aware I have only just started on FFVII)

Basically, the story goes like this: Many years have passed since Cloud and friends defeated Sephiroth. Cloud, stricken with grief after Aerith's death, left his friends to wander the realm as a hermit, with only his trusty Buster Sword, now cracked, rusted and bloodstained, for company. Cloud is now a badass old guy (think Old Snake), possibly get the guy who voiced War from Darksiders to voice him. He's no longer a (admittedly awesome) pretty boy, he's now grizzled and mature. His blonde spiky hair has long since turned grey, and isn't quite so...spiky anymore. His friends have all gone separate ways to live their own lives, and it looked like they would never see each other again.

HOWEVER:

Remnants of SOLDIER, now exiled from society, have in secret recovered Jenova's remains. They reassemble the monstrous organism, and attempt to revive her. To make matters worse, in attempting to bring her back, they inject Sephiroth's essence into her shattered husk, recovered through years of painful scavenging and trawling through the lifestream. Unfortunately, this does not go well. Jenova is revived, but with Sephiroth's very essence inside her, she becomes an unholy fusion of the one-winged angel and herself, and breaks free. The monster Spehiroth-Jenova hybrid, enraged by its hideously unnatural existence and utterly destroys the research compound.

The Sephiroth/Jenova fusion makes its way to the lifestream and attempts to tap into its raw power, and in doing so resurrects the many villains and monsters of all the Final Fantasy Universes, from Kefka to Caius Ballad.

By chance, Cloud and his companions meet again, and forced back together by the situation, prepare to fight evil one last time, one final fantasy if you will.

In terms of gameplay, I would strike a balance between the linearity of keeping the story progressing and the freedom allowing open-world exploration. An approach like Majora's Mask, where you can explore and find secrets and treasures, but must still focus on completing the quest, for fear of terrible consequences, would be cool. I would make a slight change to the battle system: Each side chooses their actions for the turn, and when all choices have been made by both sides, the attacks and actions are carried out. This would allow for more dynamic combat, like the option to use actions like blocking, countering and tripping your enemy. There would be some form of difficulty slider, with the easiest setting allowing auto-battle, and all others excising it, with the very hardest being an absolute nightmare. This would allow newcomers and casual gamers to get into the game whilst letting die-hard fans get a real challenge.

I will admit, I quite like Nomura, and I would definitely keep him for some of the character designs, but I would have someone else alongside him. I do love his work (especially Lulu's belt dress, that thing is just awesome) and I do admire his wish to challenge the graphics designers with complicated, detailed characters and make the characters really stand out, but he needs tempering, lest we drown in belts and zippers.

Some kind of aesthetic change to items when Materia is equipped, even if it's only a particle effect, would be cool.

Also: Multiple endings. I love multiple endings, make it happen Squenix! And not just in DLC either!

It hasn't been officially confirmed, but it has some very strong evidence to back it up (can't remember exactly what that evidence was though...)

I thought the only link was that Shinra (the Al Bhed kid in X-2) mentions something about harnessing the energy from within the farplane. I didn't really think there was much evidence, it felt more like a nod to fans of FFVII.

I dunno. I haven't even played X yet. I'm just going off rumours.

I remember something to do with a corporation from X going on to develop the Mako reactors in VII, or something like that.

All I know about X is Lulu's awesome belt dress and "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA."

There's no references at all in X. The only reference I've ever seen is that one thing Shinra said in X-2, and I've played both games many times. But if you wanted to believe that in the future Shinra perhaps does go on to harness the energy in the farplane and that he builds a company and names it after himself, even then there's the question of how the world changes so much, because the continents and everything about the world is entirely different. But you could go on to say that perhaps he finds another world, and relocates and uses the same technology to harness the lifestream there. *shrug* but all that is just speculation going off of one sentence, so I really wouldn't put too much faith in it, I really think it was just a nod to VII.

Meh. Twas merely a theory. I am not terribly experienced in matters of Final Fantasy, in fact I came to this forum to rectify that. Still, never mind.

What about my idea for the story? Any good, or cringeworthy fanfic material?

:) Don't worry about it, you should certainly check out FFX in any case because it's an amazing game.

It's an interesting story idea certainly, though it wouldn't stay consistant with Cloud's develpment in the movie (sequel to the game), but it's a good, creative idea. Honestly though, I wouldn't want another FFVII game anyway, I've seen enough of that universe. I'd much rather have a brand new game, with new characters, story and world.

I haven't seen the movie since I was 13, and even then it was on in the background and I didn't have a clue what was going on. I didn't realize it was a sequel, I thought it was just a retelling of the events of the game. I probably should watch it. Which is better, the original Japanese (which I usually watch Japanese movies/TV in) or the dub?

Thank you though! Once I get a scanner I might sketch up "Old Cloud" for the hell of it. On a serious note, an older protagonist would be cool. I do like Bishonen characters, in fact I'm one of the few people who liked Hope, but an older, more mature character would be a nice change.

Another thing that I think would be cool would be for the very last section of the final boss, a 1-on-1 duel, done in Dissidia style fighting rather than turn-based strategy. Not dumbed down to button mashing of course, but a bit of variety from "choose your attack" and an opportunity for some proper swordplay.

Yes, I think it takes place 2 years after the events of the game? I can't remember though, it might have been three. I'd say the Japanese is better, but I don't think I've actually watched it in English so I can't really compare them.

I have to say, I do prefer the main characters younger, so having a protagonst who is pretty old probably wouldn't be to my tastes. That might be because of my own age, and with younger characters I tend to be able to relate to them a lot. I haven't played Dissidia, so I can't really comment on the style of fighting, but I do love turn-based gameplay, I find it allows for far more strategy.

great idea for next generation..... please
