[V2] Last Movie You've Seen

Super.

It stars Ellen Page and Rain Wilson (think that's his name) and I can safely say that it is one of the strangest movies I have ever watched.

It is about a man who's a bit of an ugly looser (Rain) and he marries this chick who's out of his league but she's a junkie (Liv Tyler) and she eventually leaves him and he goes crazy and gets all depressed. Then he watches this Christian Super Hero Show on TV and get's this stupid idea to become a super hero (kind of like Kick Ass or Defendor).

He then meets Ellen Page and just a lot of weird shit happens from there. It's really gorey and strange but I actually enjoyed it a bit. It wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be. It's a low budget film however, very art house-ish.

Captain America

Even though I'm not very familiar with the character, I really enjoyed this movie. In fact, I wouldn't mind watching it again. I might even start reading some Captain America comics.

I really liked the part of the movie before he became Captain America and the parts after and before he started fighting as Captain America. This part was about half the movie and there wasn't much action, but it good in telling who Steve Rogers was.

I'd recommend this movie if you're planning on watching the upcoming Avengers movie and if you enjoyed the Iron Man movies and Thor.
 
Unstoppable

We got this from Netflix this week and watched it a couple of days ago. It has Denzel Washington and a guy that looks really similiar to Jesse Metcalf from Desperate Housewives in it (although I really don't think its him). This was a really good movie, I was pleasantly surprised. Its about a train that becomes "unstoppable" of course, but the movie was really engaging and really left you wondering what was going to happen next...and what lengths they were going to go to stop the train. There were a lot of action sequences and the acting was done well enough. So if you like action movies, you will probably like this. 8/10.

13 Assassins.

9/10.

A samurai gets picked to take out a crazy lord. He takes 12 others with him to take him out. Kinda reminds of The Dirty Dozen. This is the first Takashi Miike movie I've seen. I don't think I can handle Ichi The Killer. Some of the scenes in this movie made me wince.

I'll keep my review short and sweet: this movie is f'n badass.
 
I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 and watched the Doctor Who tv movie.

Harry Potter should be pretty obvious for everyone (I should hope). I love that they split book 7 into two parts for this. It really made it work and helps it to be the best out of the movies. It's extremely faithful to the books (unlike the others that had to cut a lot of things due to time constraints). I didn't watch it in RealD or whatever, but my brother did. He said the effects were pretty lame (as all RealD movies appear to be).

Aaaand Doctor Who. I've been recently getting into Doctor Who so I got all of the serials to watch and after finishing the new series I decided to watch this one. It's pretty good, the Eight Doctor is quite funny and it would've been nice to see him return for at least one series before moving on to the Ninth (my favorite Doctor). The Master escapes from his imprisonment on the TARDIS and wreaks havoc throughout San Fransisco (even though it was filmed in Vancouver, BC o_O) trying to find the Doctor who was "killed" by the medical procedure they tried on him after he was shot in an alleyway. I liked it (and am terrible at explaining things so kill me if I got anything wrong xP) but wouldn't recommend it to anyone that hasn't watched Doctor Who previously. I don't like number ratings and I'm lazy. Use your imaginations :gasp:
 
I watched V for Vendetta with my sister.

Such a great movie, I love the ending but it still makes me said for V but I always feel a little empowered toward the end; I love the unity of people and the fight for people vibe of it all. Plua Natalie is always a reason to watch xD

I could rewatch it again actaully; as long as FX isn't the channel showing it, great commercial breaks, uch!
 
Dick Tracy

This movie is so old but I still love it. Warren Beatty, Dustin Hoffman and Madonna make up part of an amazing cast...and the characters in it are so well-written. Mumbles and the other guys in the mob make it an interesting twist on a toned-down mob movie. The set is so colorful and well-done...visually this movie is quite stunning. I've watched this since I was pretty young, so this movie is timeless to me.
 
Face/Off.

John Travolta and Nicholas Cage doing an excellent job playing the two leads. I love how well these two play the crazy villain. It's rather worth watching for these two alone, but the story is very good and the action is pretty good as well.

Battle: Los Angeles

Saw this on my flight back home.
Battle: LA was good, almost just as good as District 9 with no documentary-like beginning. The aliens come in for the resources, the army must stop them, etc. Unlike some army movies, Battle: LA has likeable characters that are even funny! This movie made me chuckle a few times here and there, but I was always snapped back into seriousness the moment action begins. Nothing extraordinary when it came to the fights and battles, enough to keep you awake and attentive, but nothing mind-blowing insane. There are some emotional bits, and they were VERY well done, I even shed a tear. So overall, an enjoyable movie, one I'll surely watch again sometime.

Listen to Your Heart :hmph:

An awfully sappy movie. At the beginning it was a typical romance story but towards the end changed drastically, and with that I liked it a little bit more. It's definitely nothing groundbreaking but is extremely melancholy throughout. Can't say I'd recommend it to be honest however, the acting was pretty awful at times and as is the case with any movie like this, very, very cheesy moments

Sex and the City 2

As someone who hadn't watched the TV show and loved the first film, I was really looking forward to this. I was slightly let down since I wasn't laughing half as much as I did the first time around. However, it was still a decent film. It was strange to see it set in another country, but that was probably since they needed to take the direction of the film franchise higher.
Didn't care much for Aiden at all, although Big's reaction to Carrie's confession was quite heartbreaking.
Overall, a decent film. But the first was still better.

Stargate

Honestly, I prefer Richard Dean Anderson as Jack O'Neill - no, he IS Jack O'Neill, the movie is a prototype for the series - but I always enjoy seeing this film, it has a plot that is a hell of a lot better than most films released these days, some truly epic concepts (although Ra makes my head ache in context with the series, because he's supposed to be a Goa'uld, but he looks like one of the Asgard...and he's in a human body. WTF is going on here?!) and, of course, an epic score. It made my miserable afternoon slightly less miserable~

Captain America: The First Avenger

Loved this film! Went into this feeling really excited, since it's one of those Marvel characters I don't know too much about. It met my expectations very well! Chris Evans was definitely the right choice to play the title role and loved the whole "no bullies" attitude he maintained throughout the entire film. It was awfully strange to see him so skinny and frail for the first quarter, but it got better when he buffed up :-)britt:).

It was quite a shock to see the doctor die, but not so much as Bucky. I didn't see that coming, wasn't he meant to fight alongside Steve for many years in the comics?
I didn't think much of the British agent, except that she was probably eye candy for the nerds watching.
Was quite emotional towards the end, especially when Steve realised he wasn't coming back and then never made the date. Even though I had a feeling that he was going to wake up in the present (as hinted at the very beginning), it was really sad as he went down in that plane.

And the ending was fantastic.
Having him run around in a different time after waking from seventy years was really interesting. Nice to also see Nick Fury around, it's the perfect set up for The Avengers. The preview was worth waiting around for after the credits!

Roll on The Avengers!

Pirahna

This movie is the typical summer fun movie. It was very similar to Lake Placid from a long time ago...minus the whole summer break theme. This movie was alright. The only thing that made it decent were the special effects. I've seen many scary movies and the gore was just completely overdone....at some points I was like really? :sick: The acting was ridiculous even though there were some decent-ish actors in it like Jerry O'Connell and Elizabeth Shue, and I couldn't believe they got the scientist guy from Back To The Future in this!...because it was filled with scantily clad, partying, spring breakers. The plot was pretty non-existent. Nothing really got explained until the very end of the movie anyways and at the end I was like...what 8( The music was one of the better parts of the movie too.

I'd only recommend this is you are looking for a fun movie you would really only want to watch during the summer...like Jaws or like I said, Lake Placid. That way you aren't out to watch it for the acting...or pretty much anything else. 6/10.
 
Let Me In

Even from the trailers, it didn't seem too scary. Even though it was "another vampire movie", I was thinking, finally a good, recent, horror vampire movie.
This movie is pretty good. If you think "Oh, I hate horror movies" cuz scary bloody stuff isn't your cup of tea, this movie isn't that scary. It's really only the killing scenes. Nothing is really shown, you can just hear.
The dialogue is mainly of the two 12 year old kids. They both have extremely soft voices, so I couldn't understand anything they said. I had to turn on the subtitles, which eventually got a little funny and disturbing during the killing scene. "Bones crunching." "Bones continue crunching".

I heard it was very similar to a Swiss film based off the same book. Haven't seen that, so I can't really compare it.

Acting was superb. The dim lighting through the whole movie gave it a depressing and solemn feeling, which really added to the film. Technically there wasn't really a plot, it was just going day to day seeing what would happen.

Decent movie. Nothing like I expected (a scary, gorey creepy movie) and it tugged at the heartstrings. Nothing really bad I can say about it.

Ok, last night I saw two movies:

Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

This. Movie. Is. Amazing. Seriously I completely and utterly enjoyed every moment of it! The CGI was fantastic and the Apes looked so real and you really fell in love with each of them, even the horrible ugly monkey. Also all the human main characters did a really great job, specially the actor that played James Franco's dad (can't remember his name :()
Tom Felton my love was in it too but his character was so evil :( I couldn't fall in love with him but I guess that means he played the part well!
At the end everyone in the cinema clapped, that is the first time I've been in a cinema when that happened.
There were a few little bits and pieces throughout the movie that could have been done better but they were really small and not worth nitpicking over because overall the movie was great, depressing but great.

Big Trouble in Little China.

We went home after planet of the apes and watched this movie, it's about some american truck driver who has some asian friend who brings a green eyed asian girl over to marry her. It turns out these evil wizards need a green eyed asian girl to marry some demon so he can become human.

Anyway, it's one of the weirdest movies i've ever watched. It was made in the 80's so it's really lame yet quite hilarious. All the one liners are some of the best I've ever heard and hardly make sense, but that's what makes it so funny. I actually really enjoyed it.

I re-watched Batman Begins and the Dark knight this week.

I'm unsure about which film I prefer. On the one hand I thought that the Heath Ledger's Joker was great and I preferred the character of the Joker in general to Ra's al ghul.

But on the other hand I thought that Begins was put together better. There were some dodgy transitions between scenes in the Dark knight such as
how the Joker just seems to leave Bruce Wayne's party after Batman saves Rachel.
I also thought that the
Scarecrow's cameo in the Dark knight was unnecessary and a bit confusing.

Finally the portrayal of Gotham city seemed different in style for each film. I think I preferred the way it was portrayed in Begins. Both movies are great. I think I enjoyed the Dark Knight more and found it more interesting; while I think Begins is a better quality movie...if that makes sense.
 
Horrible Bosses

This starts off a little slow, but it's highly enjoyable. Basically, it's about three guys wanting to kill off their bosses and being seriously serious about it at the same time. It's not really dark and quite funny. The short one was a bit annoying at times, though I suppose someone has to do that job. I won't give anything away, but the film was great and the ending was put together well. Was a lot better than I expected it to be!

Cowboys and Aliens.

You pretty much know what you're getting straight from the movie's title. You have Cowboys. You have Aliens. You have fights and explosions. Sure, it's not the most cerebral of films, but hey, you're not going to get that from a film titled Cowboys and Aliens. What you do get is James Bond (Daniel Craig) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) going up against gold-seeking aliens from beyond the stars. Daniel Craig plays... well, Daniel Craig. If you like him as James Bond, you'll like him in this. Harrison Ford is always a treat, and I'll enjoy anything with him in it.

... Okay, not Firewall.

The cinematography is excellent, and the wild west scenery looks particularly gorgeous. Of course, I have a self professed weakness for westerns, so I could be biased. The CGI was adequate, and I didn't find anything about it to be jarringly bad or outstanding. The aliens look decent enough, but there's nothing too special about them to have them be included amongst the pantheon of great movie monsters.

Being a Summer popcorn flick, the plot is straightforward and action packed. There's no real surprises here, other than one little twist half way through, so the plot's fairly easy to follow. I had fun watching it, and that's enough for me even if the film didn't light my world afire.

The Descent 2

I rented this and got it from Netflix early in the week and finally got around to watching it yesterday. I've always been weary of sequels, since most of them are purely awful...but this sequel was actually really good. This sequel does have some flashbacks from the last movie, but it is primarily focused on Sarah's point of view. Due to her friends being missing for so long and her being the sole survivor from the group, the police ask her to go back and investigate the cave again so they can locate her friends. "Ask" is ridiculous though because they pretty much force her which makes me mad because the girl is pretty much PTSD and is in no way fit to go back, but :wacky: ...Anyways, I really liked this. It was pretty suspenseful and was a decent twist on the original.

8/10.
