What type of party you prefer? A static one? or one that changes a lot?

What I mean by static is that you get all characters near the beginning of the game and they stay in your party during the rest of the game (like in most FFs). They may temporary leave and such, but they always come back.

The other type of party is when the characters constantly change and you know your real party only near the end of the game (like in FFIV).

I think I prefer the type of FFIV. I like it when I don't even know who will be my characters in the final battle. IMO it makes the game less expected.

I think i like the Static option, i like getting all my characters early because then you can spend time on all of them ahead of time and level them. And if you get them all early, typically characters develop more as you play through the game, so you would get to watch all of them develop more and more instead of just having some characters develop and then get new characters later on and be like I don't get it!

Static

Most likely because I don't like the characters to come and leave everytime I finish something, because I sometimes get attached to the character so him going without me expecting would be kinda a let down, so I prefer a static.

Static, probably. I like being able to plan ahead and develop the characters the way I want to. Obviously, you need time to be able to do that.

Plus, with games like FFVII and FFVIII, you can choose your party very early on, so you can "simulate" a more tempory party like FFIV's if you use your imagination. Sometimes, you even get forced into making those sorts of changes too.

I do like an ordinary party in my games, so I can develop them, without their sudden disappearance. I enjoyed FFVII onward for the constant batch of characters. However, I also like the option of secret characters, such as in VII, and guest characters who keave after a time, such as VIII and XII

The other type of party. It adds suspense and allows you to have to change your tactics for a more challenging experience. The static party is good, but it takes away the mystery and gets kinda repetitive after a while

Definitely static for me.
One of the biggest enjoyments for me throughout the Final Fantasy series is how connected the characters become (minus FFXII...). I like knowing who my party will be, perhaps with a few twists but nothing huge.

I would like to see some more secret characters though.

I like it when my party changes. It makes it so that you can't get a character and then ignore them for almost the entire game. Seriously, how many people actually use Cait Sith other than when you HAVE to use him?

If FFIV had a static party I bet just about no one would use Edward. But IV makes it so that you have to use him.

And who's to say that the characters can't get close if the party keeps changing? Just look at the end of IV before the Zeromus fight.

I prefer a static party (even though FFIV is one of my favorites). I hate to spend time leveling a character only to have that character removed and replaced by an underleveled one. Also characters seem to have a lot more development when they remain with the party throughout the game.

If FFIV had a static party I bet just about no one would use Edward. But IV makes it so that you have to use him.

That's a really good point. I know I wouldn't have used Edward at all if I had an option not to.

I always force myself to use all characters. So :)
So I did use Cait Sith and I would have used Edward, even if it wasn't a must.

BTW, I actually found Edward quite useful.

But at least it seems as I am not the only one who likes this kind of party.

I liked how Final Fantasy IV worked with a changing party. Not only does it force you to fight bosses with handicaps(you lose your only black magic user right before a major boss for example), but it works out where characters have to sacrifice themselves for the sake of the party, adding layers to the storyline.

Modern RPGs should force you to decide which characters get killed or removed from the party. Or do what FF IV did and have party members leave in various ways. Regardless, of how its done, a changing party adds freshness and challenge to an RPG.

I usually stick with the same party, unless it's like X where you can rotate, even then I rarely change my members. I just use my favorite characters and stick with them, lol.

Definitely, a static party. If the party is defined very early on in the game, I can start working on levelling them up and teaching them skills without the fear that they'll leave and then I'll have to train a new character to get him/her to be decent.

I feel more confident with my ability to win if I know who it is I'm dealing with. Having just one or a handful of characters that you'd gained from early on helps me work out suitable strategies - trusting there's one to be made - so there's a definite comfort zone for me as preference goes.

Ultimately, however, you get to understand everyone and every class/job [etc] so as this is my only quip against interchangeable parties, it's squished fairly simply. Still prefer "static" though. >_>

I perfer the static. I like to know what party that I will use, so then I can prepare them for the final boss proporly. But I love the other way too, it makes the game more interesting and challenges the player to use other characters then what you would normally use.

Hmm, I love having static party members even though i base it of of the girls looks, the main character, and the most stoic by-character
