Do you agree that music on the radio is just complete crap now a days? I mean I miss the old grunge era if you ask me... but just listen to Jon La Joie.

Parental Advisory Suggested - Contains quite a bit of swearing..

Yep. I listen to a local radio station when I'm at work and for the most part they just play bullshit. They'll have a few good (aka old) songs on but you're lucky if you even get that.

PS: that song made me lol.:jtc:

I was in kindergarden/early primary school when Grunge was going around the world, so I can't really say that I have any recollection of what they played on the radio back then :P That being said, I haven't listened to the radio since I quit my old job back in January. I enjoyed some of the radio comedy they did, but the music was 99.99% crap.

Oh and I think Jon Lajoie is brilliant, but that particular song has got to be the worst thing he's done since those Pointless Profanity sketches.

I've never really liked the radio much... I hate it now and the songs playing say nothing to me about my life. And yes they should hang the blessed DJ.

But no seriously the radio hasn't ever really fitted my tastes... Even when I was younger... All I can remember when I was younger (as in first school) was stuff like Spice Girls and all those girl / boy bands that took over the world.

The radio now though is pretty bad too on the whole, for me at least.

Most of the songs I listen to probably won't be played on the radio anymore, at least not often. I've occassionally heard some of them played on the radio because some recent dude or girl or band has remixed them and made them faster or kept the beat and changed the lyrics, so I can half enjoy them even though the only reason I am enjoying them is because I am imagining the original song.

I tend not to ever turn the radio on. I just don't like most of the music at the moment. Even if there are occassionally a few that are bearable, I'd much rather go home and put my ipod on and listen to the songs I actually like a lot. Or if I can't get home, and I don't have my ipod with me, I'll probably just imagine the songs I like in my head.

I think that was the point, to make the song as cliche as possible to make people bob their heads at the same time while hearing the lyrics.

I haven't been able to swallow the songs on the radio for a good while now. I mean not to mention most good artists these days are lacking, but there hasn't been any new material in the lime light to educate the masses in a long time. I feel like I'm listening to the same crap over and over again. Pisses me plain off. It doesn't matter if it is rock or pop it is all meshed into the same category because of the melody and harmonization is unoriginal. Who am I to talk though, I don't know the troubles of being an artist, I could only imagine it could be impossible.

Also agreed. Occasionally there will be something on that I like (I Am the Resurrection by The Stone Roses was on a couple of weeks ago) but 99% of the time it's just utter crap. I used to have to listen to the radio all day at work a couple of years ago, and they played the same half a dozen songs over and over again.

I do listen to it on a morning to wake me up though, because it's better than a high-pitched whine of an alarm.

I rarely listen to the radio anymore because yeah, the music now a days just really, really sucks. The only ones I can listen to are the classic rock station and the jazz station, but even then, there's still some pretty crap music being played. Hence, why I still use CDs and my iPod.

I disagree, radios have always played mainstream pop music shit. Whether that's bands like Herman's Hermits in the 60s, or disco in the 70s or 80s hair metal, it's what they've always done. Nirvana got a lot of alternative and college radio playtime but were generally ignored by radio stations. They get more playtime from major radio stations that ever before. Only grunge-lite bands Pearl Jam were on the radio a lot.
This is no indication that the music being created now is terrible, you just have to look harder to find it. There are still plenty of great artists out there.
tl;dr Mainstream music has always and will continue to be shit.

Turn on tha radio, nah fuck it turn it off, fear is your only god on the radio, nah fuck it, turn it off!

I have never really listened to the radio that much so I really have nothing to compare today's typical radio music too. I do seem to remember hearing a lot of Nirvana when I was a kid, but I don't remember if that was on the radio or on a CD (probably the latter).

I do agree that a lot of today's typical mainstream music which gets played on the radio is shit. But as I said before I don't really have anything to compare it to, so I can't really say that the quality of radio music has declined. However, on that note I can't say it has improved either.

I'll agree, music on the radio these days just sucks. I remember listening to the radio a lot in the mid-90's, when grunge and alternative music were basically peaking and there were so many bands around at that time. I have so many CD's from that time period, and a ton of them are 1-hit wonder bands (remembers Nada Surf, Failure, Tracy Bonham, Superdrag and Fun Lovin' Criminals, among others). It was also a time where bands like Offspring and Green Day rose to power, and also the Foo Fighters after Kurt Cobain's death. Even one of my personal favorite bands, Stabbing Westward, became known in that time era, even though they broke up in 2002. :sad2: I could endlessly listen to music from that time, nearly every song on the radio was awesome.

Now, everything is corporately driven, and basically force bands to play music that they never really intended to play, just to make sure it sells. It's all too generic now, everything sounds the same. Of the new bands, I love Trapt, Shinedown and Killswitch Engage, but aside from them and bands that came about in the mid-90's or earlier, I have trouble finding music that is really good. I may hear a song here and there that I like, but never enough to buy their CD. Pretty much every CD I buy now is from a band that I already know and already have a few CD's from.

I'm sure great music will rise again, but for now, we're stuck with our old(er) music.

I havent listened to the radio in a long time. I cant stand some of the new crap out today, like Lady Gaga, Little Boots and the like. I prefer bands that formed years ago, like Muse, The Killers, etc. So when one of them releases an album Im beyond happy about it. But Im not impressed with the crap being dished out at the moment.

Yeah usually listen to the radio but it's usually the 80-90s channels and not today's stuff.
Just really sick of Rap it should of died out ages ago but it's still hanging on there..
Rap passed it's used by date in like- 2004. What's it still doing being played on the radio >-> ?

But usually only listen when is lacking sleep and/ or isn't feeling not so well..

But reckon that watching the actual music video on TV is much worse than the Radio.
Because the Music Video is almost just straight-out porn with Beyonce wearing a cut-through top that almost shows her boobs and then Shairka dancing in a small cage..

Think would rather listen to the Radio over watching the Video because at least you don't see anything disturbing.. but yeah music these days is lacking..

Definitely. At my work place, the radio's always on as well. It goes from the most crappiest shit, to a form behind crappy I didn't know existed.

It goes from rap, to what they consider "pop", and from pop, to R&B. Sometime's and I mean in three weeks, I can count the decent songs they've played.

They threw in a Panic! song a while back, and the Shake It one from Metro Station, none my style but close to what I like. -_-

Blagh, shit radio, shit music, shit work. xD -kicks it all-

I bet being an artist like yourself as well gives you a little insight into the talentless generation we are in. I swear it takes nothing to write music in our era, all you have to do is pick something most women (no offense) can relate to or something with a funky beat for dancing.. and people are in love with it.

It's hard when you have to dig through countless albums just to find a playlist of your choosing.

The radio is just for the furthering of the crappy music most people listen to these days. I REALLY hate it (and i rarely hate something) when people listen to the radio in a car. I'd much rather listen to an Ipod, or cd, or casset for that matter then the radio. Hell even the wind would be better then the shiz they play now. There is some music on teh radio that's not bad though. But that's an uncommon occasion. In short, I don't listen to the radio, only when forced to.

No, I completely agree with you there Shu. -definitely reps you for that- That's really all it seems to take anymore. Those retarded dance mixes with voices like... -thinks- Cascada, no offense, but I don't consider it... 'music'.

Music to me is something you should be able to do in the studio as well as live. Grab yourself a damn acoustic guitar, and a cardboard box to make a drum box out of. :wacky: -trust me, it works-. What I miss is creativity.

Everything's just "fixed" with machines anymore. Let there be a raspy voice that goes off tone once in a while, it's what makes the feeling real. :ness:

It's all about 'gettin' your hoes, and pimped up' while you walk down the street with your pants on your knees, and your boxers show that have pampers in them. All about your bling bling shit anymore. And then those husky wannabe players :gasp: that all girls seem to be in love with. For example Neyo's music. No offence, but I just think it's overrated. =/

Dude, get a cough drop.

I miss the good meaningfull music. :sad2:

I know this topic hasn't been visited in a while, but I just thought I'd share my piece.

The radio and I tend to disagree a lot.

There are particular bands or songs I prefer to listen to on the radio. Bands like Kings of Leon, Taking Back Sunday and Phoenix, or artists like Taylor Swift (If you don't like "You Belong with Me", you're clearly Kanye West) and Colbie Caillat. The occasional Weezer song ("I want you to" and a couple others), or some bands I'm not all-too familiar with that have a pretty good song on the radio. I like artists like these, I enjoy listening to them, and I'd like to support them with rates.

But the problem is that they're too few and far in between. It seems like half the time I try listening to it, they aren't on. Instead, it's some bubble gum song, some general rock song about misery, some raggae artist, or something else I can't really stomach. Obviously these artists must have fans to get the kind of play they do, so I'm not gonna knock that. But personally, most of it's gag-worthy.

And then on the flip side, when you try to like a certain song, the radio decides to whore it and it's on 50 million times a day.

So I just keep my IPOD/IPOD deck on most of the time, and cruise to my own music. I recommend you all get one. And if at your particular job, they allow you to play music, I think you should make every day a "Bring an I-Mode to work" day. =|

My mom usually only ever has it on a station that plays classic rock, so I don't really have any complaints since I never use the radio for anything myself.

But yeah, most music they seem to be playing on other stations nowadays seems to be a bit shit... not even slightly catchy. I think I actually remember when Q101 seriously used to play something else besides hip-hop, Like Everlast, Three Doors Down, Bowling for Soup, and Matchbox 20.

I used to love the radio, and I do still listen to it occuasionly, but I prefer my MP3 player much more, because I have complete control over what I listen to, and don't have to sit through Disney's newest acts.

However, I actually enjoy most dance music mostly, but I also like pop music (is that bad?) To note, not everything on the radio is bad, just most of it. There are still some good songs on there sometimes. My problem with it comes from living in nowhere, so every new song that gets played on the radio is actually old by the time I hear it. Also, my largest problem is all the censorship. Is gun a curseword nowdays? Do we really live in such a society where it's not okay to be real?

The radios shite. They paly the same songs about 10 times a day. I'm not up to dat eon all these new groups/singers either. I just don't listen to it at all, I stick to my own music and what I know. No adverts and no pish on my playlist! Only time I ever have to endure radios is if Im in a car I guess and they put it on...or If Im out shopping, but I always have my head phones in. Not listenied to it in years proper really. Its all crap
