I know at least 3 people round here that can't swim, myself included, so, is there anyone else out there? Why did you never learn?

I did learn with school....supposedly...I was too busy fannying around in the shallow end and never bothered. I can just about manage a doggy paddle. xD

Wow really? Its something u gotta learn, didnt they show you in school at least? I have no problems with swimming i was in a club for a few years and competed in races and competitions. I love swimming though i rarely go anymore due to the lack of the olympic size pool being shut down, but its definately something every person should learn nowadays :monster:

I always argued that I don't live near any water so what's the point :wacky:

We did get taught in school, but I just messed around so much I never really learned

Hahaha we live in the uk, we'r surrounded by the stuff. Should Britain ever sink...uh-oh. :P
Its also handy if u ever go on holiday abroad, somewhere where you'll be near the beach or a swimming pool. Doggy paddal might not impress the lads :monster: Do you think you'll take the time to learn at some point?

I don't need to impress the lads I have a boyfriend, and I did almost drown once years ago.... :gasp:

I'd never swim in the sea, fuck that, too many creepy crawlies in there. I'l stick to paddling :wacky:

Oh and if Britland sinks, I think we are ALL screwed xD

It's not that I can't swim, I'm just shit at it! When I'm swimming, I get exhausted really easily. I can swim just fine if I go at my own pace and I have no problems staying a float an' such, but when I'm racing someone I'm pretty hopeless.

I live on an Island so being able to swim is very important.
I also live by the beach so I go swimming when I get up in the morning which is rather nice.
Swimming and indeed all beach sports are part of our culture so pretty much everyone learns to swim.

I can swim, just not very good. -__-
Screw swimming anyway, totally embrassing when your in grade 6 and you do swimming school and everyone in grade 6 is in the high level swimming group and your swimming with all the little kids! :gasp:
Lucky we had a pretty nice swimming teacher, she had nice boobs and since she was always wet. >_>

I learnt to swim at a very early age, so I never had trouble. Swimming came natural to me since the first few minutes I was in the water I had already had the skills I needed to float. Not meaning to brag, but yeah. If you can't swim, I'd recommend some training, I needed training to do Freestyle, I always did the thing everyone does when they first try. I swam for as long as I could, without breathing, then came up and did a backstroke till I had regained enough breath to go under again.

I learned to swim very early on and, as you'll read in the sports forum, I developed a great interest in it and entered many competitions, winning most of them along the way. It was great but, for some reason, I stopped. It was probably when I started to gain weight and felt conscious about my appearance.

...come to think of it, I've not been swimming for around five years, now. I don't think I'll go back, either, until I've dropped my weight.

What better sport to help you lose weight than swimming? U work every muscle in your body. You should just go for it man.

I can't swim for shit. Mainly because after primary school I never really went to a swimming pool or sea more than a couple times a year if I was lucky. Now I just bother as such.

Every year in the summer time (you know those 2 days a year) since i was 15 me and my mates all go down to the river, about 2 miles out the city theres the ruins of an old bridge and its amazing for jumping off, theres 3 different heights, its great fun. Afterwards we just float down the river back to the city, good times.

You're right, of course, but it's one of those vicious cycles where I didn't continue because I put on weight and I don't want to go back because of how conscious I feel about it...nevermind the fact that I'm just as conscious about the ol' body hair. <_<

A few more (hundred) sessions in the gym might do it. xD

I don'/t think anyones gunna be pointing and going ew look that that fat hairy gorilla David. You should see the looks *I* get trying to stay afloat, I get stuck in those stupid thingies that pull yuo along and round in circles >_>

I'm actually quite a capable swimmer (odd since I rarely payed any attention in swimming lessons) I'm not the best with endurance but i'm pretty fast at short distances (lasting longer if i pace myself or use more effort than necessary)

And Dave, you should give it a try when you feel more comfortable with your appearance and weight. It's great for an all over workout and you might see a lot of improvement both for body and mind. At any rate, it can't hurt to give it a shot when you're ready for it.

Body hair? i wouldnt know anything about that unfortunately -__- i would recommend cycling then, great way to burn off fat without taking yer top off. Im determined to get in better shape this year for my holiday in may, i dont wanna be the overweight pale bloke lying beside the swimming pool, so im gonna start swimming again to lose a few pounds.

I can't swim, and I hate going to pools because I get really self-conscious about my body and feel like people are staring at me all the time. D: Plus, they're all full of annoying little children who splash you in the face, and old people who try to swim in lanes.

Swimming lessons were always really embarrassing at school, because I was the only one who couldn't swim and I felt like everybody was always laughing at me. >_> And I always refused to let somebody support me in water, because I don't trust anyone and I'd end up drowning or something. D:

I can swim... Or at least I COULD swim. I learned to swim early on, and then kept at it and went through awards and stuff, but only till I was in my early teens and then I gave it up.

The last few times on holiday have showed me that I've epic failed at keeping the same strength I once had! I still know how to swim I guess, I'm just not very good at it, lost my coordination and stuff.

It's all in the lower half with me anyway... My arms just mankidoodle about as they please a lot of the time (well, perhaps not, but not as coordinated as I'd like them to be). If I'm panicked and running from a fish or something (like last year when one stalked me for a whole day) then I get better use in my arms.

I can swim. It's really easy as your body just floats naturally. I think I learned after attending a little summer session with about 10 other 10 years olds and I thought it was fun. I learned to hold my breath and do all the strokes and whatnot, and I found it fun.

And Lew, I'd have to agree with you there. I really should go swimming more often to lose some more weight. >.>
