...I've actually had this in my head for quite some time, that thread just reminded me of it x]

Anyways, Has anyone here at FFF experienced this syndrome? It's pretty self-explanatory but, I shall go into a little more detail as to what I mean.

I'm sure that i'm not the first one to come up with this but, has anyone of you here bought a game and that's all you wanted to do until you finished it?

Recently I have with XIII. It's alllllllllll i wanted to do. Until it came to the part where I had to grind D: But, i sticked with it and i beat the game x].

I'm sure there is other new games that i've bought and had the "New Game" syndrome but, i'm just trying to start this thread off =P
So what about you guys?

hmmm yeah.... when FFXII came out I got it...thankfully I beat it in a week...I was just surprized it was the only game I wanted to play till I finished it since I didnt realy even like it...but the less I like something the more I want to get it over with....so I will finish it faster than if I enjoyed the game.
I was like that for KH 358/2...but that seemed forever for me to finish even if it was the only game I played and KH and KH2 I played till I beat them withought any other games interfearing in my gameplay...
Otherwise I toggle threw like 6 games at a time ....but those where the only games I played faithfully without adding others.

So basically have I ever bought a game and just kept at it until I beat it?

Well, yeah, for sure ^^

There's plenty of games I could name, but I know I played each Kingdom Hearts game I own to completion without stopping. In particular, I plowed through KH2 in about 3-4 days over the long weekend way back when I got the game. I did rack up a decent amount of hours because I was just so into it, I couldn't stop...just...couldn't...! Dx

I'm doing that with FFXIII now. My roommate got it and Darksiders over spring break, and he's letting me play FF (since he knows I've played all the others). I'm 30 hours into it and mainly just training now, but I've only got another 3 weeks until I move out of my house - so I neeeeed to grind it out or else I'd have to buy a 360/PS3 and the game myself.

Most games I like to take my time and play to fully absorb the story and the characters.

Yeah, I've definitely done that before. When you buy a new game, you just put aside everything else you were doing and only play that game for a while. Happened when I bought Mass Effect, though most of the time I the 'syndrome' doesn't last until I complete the game, and I end up taking a break from it for a while.

If I really get into a game, then I will play it exclusively until I beat it, although this doesn't happen very often, since I've always got so many games on the go at the same time. Although I rarely ever put games before everything else, regardless of how addicted I am to them.

Only with FFX.

I remember when I first got that game all I did all holiday was wake up and play it until late and do that over and over until I beat it. XD

Every other game I've stuck with for at least a few days, but then I sit it down for a day and then don't come back to it for a month or so. >.<

Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age Origins lol. Completed DAO with 74 hours XD Was my first run through and got the ending I wanted. Now with Mass Effect 2 it was all I played when I got back from Perth and sadly I cant complete it untill I get paid, so I can get more points and get the DLC. Then I get a new companion, loyality mission, exp and achievements!!

It depends on the amount of time I have.

When I first got Uncharted 2 (and indeed Uncharted 1, but the previous year) and Assassin's Creed 2 I was on my christmas break and pretty much played the games all day long. It's true to an extent with FFXIII in that for a week or so after getting the game I spent a few hours every night playing it and I got quite far. I've had to put it aside for a while now though as I don't want to get too caught up in the story as my Uni course is coming to an end and I have serious work to do.

While I really want to complete FFXIII now I know that that would be a bad idea, so I'm being brave and putting it aside. Now when I go on my PS3 to relax it is mostly to play UC2 online with the folks here, and my new games are put to the side until I have the time to spend whole days / half days on games again.

I have only had that with FFIX a few years ago. I remember how excited I was to finally lay my hands on a copy of the game after long months of fruitless searching. I beat FFIX the first time around in a week while playing nothing else and with moderate amounts of grinding.

Nowadays, I seem to be suffering from the exact opposite kind of syndrome - the "Buy but never beat" syndrome. I have a bunch of games that still need to be completed. It really doesn't help that I have a short attention span and easily avert attention to another game after about 10 hrs. That sort of happened with FFXIII. I'm only 2/3 of my way through and I'm juggling with UC2, Just Cause 2 and Pokemon Soulsilver at the same time.

the opposite to what you just said xD
i find it quite annoying i never finish games if there not Horror games or an SE game(between you and everybody else in this fourm i didn't have a long enough attention span to beat FFXIII xD)
but yeah it rarther pisses me off >.<

I used to be like that, when I was poor and only got new games twice a year. I never had a gaming backlog back then and I always used to finish all of my games within a month or so. Unfortunately once I got money though sticking with this became alot easier said than done and now I think that I actually finished about 30% of the games I own.
