Yeah, no joke. I spent the past hour and a half writing up the finish of a major research paper that is due in about 2 hours, and I accidently close out the document. >_< I remember saving it to the computer, but cannot find it. My school's IT department had to come over, but failed to retrieve my precious paper. -__- The computer basically ATE the document. And now I'm sitting here, going to miss half or possibly more of a class to re-do the damage that has been done. -__-

Oh, and in case you're wondering: I left my flashdrive/jumpdrive/etc. at home. -__-

Yeah, but I tend to forget random objects in the morning, and that was today's forgotten object. -__-

I was trying to e-mail it to myself, and I was able to save it, but not access it. >_< That's what I get for blindly closing down browser windows. :gasp:

Really sorry about that COH D:
It's happened to me a few times, it sucks. -__-
Mine broke not too long ago too D:
Reminds me I need to get a new one >_>

The IT guy said that it was probably saved in a temp folder that I couldn't access. He logged out of the public account I was on and logged into his main account. When he realized that it was probably saved in the temp folder, he told me that the temp folder is wiped clean every time you log out. -__-

So yeah, it's long gone.

Good technicians are good, all temp files get deleted when you log off, you need new technicians methinks xD

Got the bugger done and turned in! :D I ended up skipping my first class altogether.

Wow that sucks! I've been pretty lucky with that sort of thing, when I lose something I can usually load an older save and I only end up losing a paragraph or two. My old computer used to randomly shut down a lot (I found out this was due to overheating) so I used to worry that it would shut down while I was working, luckily though I was able to reload the documents when it did shut down. I also tended to keep backup files on my USB and they helped out a fair bit when I did actually lose something.

Man that sucks. =(

I remember one time I was filling out this million-page-long job application online, and I was thinking to myself:

'I have no way of saving this if the computer shuts down...I should save all my answers to WORD just in case.'

However, I decided that I was nearly finished and the likely hood of my computer dying was zero to none.

Anyway, like five minutes later we get a power surge, which lasted about two seconds. Everything switched off and then on and I was left staring at the black computer screen.

I was like 'OMG I'm the stupidest halfwit ALIVE!!! :gasp:'

Anyway, I decided to re-do the entire thing again, however, this time I saved every answer to WORD, just in case it happened again. <_<

Which of course it didn't because I was playing it safe now. <_<

It's shit when you lose essays, and what's worse that when you do have genuine reason such as yours, or forgetting to save etc. the teacher thinks you're jusy lying to avoid doing it because so many people used those reasons in the past. You should now rip out the hard drive and smash the computer until it spits it out :awesome:

Ouch! I have that happen to me all the time. Though i usually don't accidently close document. It's usually the power going out well i'm almost done my essay and i haven't save. Since the last 5 or 6 times its happened i've actually learned to save my work well i make progress. A lot of times i don't even make a rough copy so all the ideas that i had i typed and they would disappear. Seeing as i'm very forgetful, i'll forget them and have to come up with new ones =\. So i definitely know how you feel.

That's happened to me quite a few times but, because of my track record, I tend to get away with it, mostly because, when I do hand it in, it's much better than the others'. xD

I remember forgetting to pick up my homework before I left one day and ended up re-doing it on the bus, told that to the teacher and thought I was great for doing it twice and being so determined. xD

The other day in English Language we were working on a presentation, we only had that one lesson to do it in, and then there was a power cut x_x

When the power got back on, the computer we were working on wasn't working, so we had to move to another one. It hadn't autosaved on the other one, so there was a very scary moment when we thought we were going to lose all 11 slides.

Luckily for us, the PC we were working on decided to work again, and we could recover the document then. The message is alwaysalwaysalways save your work x_x
