Do you use them? WHat's your opinion on them, would you rather fake tan because it's safer or sunbed because it's easier despite the risks?

Ive not been on the sunbed in like a year and a half, I used to go on quite religiously, I hate fake tanning, it takes forever, takes ages to soak in sometimes streaks and looks shite, I'd rather just have the convenience of a sunbed...despite the risks. Plus I like lying there all nice and warm for 6 minutes. Don't liek the stand up beds mind, those are a pain in the arse

I also know it ages your skin, which, tbh, Im more arsed about that than any other risks, but that's why god invented moisturiser and anti-wrinkle cream

>_>

<_<

I look stupid with a suntan, I look obviously fake even if it's just a pale tan. So I don't bother with any sort of tan. Plus you don't want the underside of your boobs burned, do you Bambi?
My grandmother used to go on them before she went away on holiday, to stop herself from getting prickly heat. But then she had a bit of a breast cancer scare and was told not to go near them for a few years just in case that's what contributed to it. They don't know for certain whether it was, but they wanted her to stay away anyway

I have never used one and never will. The UV lights or whatever they are can't be much good for you skin for starters.

Also I've seen to many movies in which people can't get out of them and they melt/burn etc. XD

I've used the fake tan like Dove and such which you moisturise into your skin and I intend to do that again this year as there's a new glove thingy out especially for it at my work. XD

But I haven't done it in years, so I'm giving it a shot again.

But no I will never use Sun Beds. >_<

Heh, I've got a girl in one of my classes that does both the tanning bed and the spray on stuff. She's orange to begin with, darkens it with the tanning bed and then cakes on a nice glowing orange gue that makes her skin all nice and even... XD It's interesting to say the least. She's a walking perfection orange with bottle blonde hair and white shinny teeth.

I went to Florida for a summer and my father forced me to tan for a week. I don't like the smell of the places, it actually makes me sick. And I like being pale. If I hadn't of gone tanning in that week though I would have burned to death with in Florida... so... I guess for that instance it was ok. but I'm a vampire girl. :) The whiter the better. ;p

sunbeds are scary after watching that deuce bigalo movie. I'm afraid I'll get locked in one and get fried :elmo:

There's that, and I suppose I don't really give using them much thought because I don't really care for a tan... I've really never understood the obsession with a tan anyway.

Maybe it's just a woman thing... :wacky:

I've never understood the obsession with tans either.

I've never aimed to get one. When I have sunbathed in the past it has usually been by order of my parents, telling me I need to do it to get some colour.

I prefer not to be tanned though. I mean if it happens, fair enough... But I don't aim to get tanned. I walk about outside and if it is a hot day and I happen to get tanned a little bit then I won't throw a fit. But I would really hate it if I woke up looking almost an entirely different colour.

So no. Sunbeds are a no for me. :gasp: No spray either. I'd rather just let my skin be whatever colour it actually is. I don't want to waste hours just to temporarily darken my skin. :ness:

It probably is more of a girl thing, but some guys have been known to tan on sunbeds etc as well. It's important to some people to have a tan, and I don't understand it either.

It might be a way of saying "hey! I go outside and have a life! I'm interesting because I've been to hot places!". Other than that, I can't think of any other advantages tans give people, nor why it is desirable.

I'm never done the sunbeds thing... I'm naturally pale and burn easily, but I just can't get over the risks of tanning =/ I've heard all kinds of things, and I don't actually know which ones are true, but I'd rather not use them. A lot of my friends tan though, and they try to drag me along... I've heard "But you're so pale, you should have a little color!" more times than I can count -__- I like my naturally pale skin though, and I'm not gonna tan in a sunbed or use that fake tanner stuff... the fake tanner makes me think I'll put it on too thick and look like an orange.

So no, I don't use them, and I don't use the fake tanner stuff either =/

Sunbeds and skin cancer

Sunbeds aren't a safe alternative to tanning outdoors. Like the sun, sunbeds give out harmful UV rays which damage the DNA in our skin cells and can cause skin cancer. In fact, sunbeds are estimated to cause around 100 deaths from melanoma every year in the UK.

The more you use a sunbed the greater your risk of skin cancer. Using a sunbed once a month or more, can increase your risk of skin cancer by more than half. So when the tan fades, the damage remains.

Sunbeds also cause premature skin ageing, which means that your skin becomes coarse, leathery and wrinkled at a younger age.
Just another thing to think about before going off to get a tan. XD

We don't get all that much sun, and tbh, the article is as likely to put me off as all the warnings for cigarettes and alcohol. I'm getting quite a nice tan, well, tanned by my standards at least. I went om a stand up for too long last week, I had a couple of white bits the lie down missed, so on I go for 9 minutes and ended up burning under my arms, so I could only go on once last week :rage: Going on another stand up on Friday, I'l be sure to do 6 minutes

As ever, the warnings will just go in one ear out the other, afterall, at the end of the day it's my body and I only have myself to blame, and it's not like I go on daily or for like, over the recomended time for my skin type. Once or twice a week just to give myself a bit of a glow rather than looking transparent

Okay,
My skin is very sensitive, I stay away from anything with the words 'sun' and or 'ray' on them <_<;;

But for other people, I'd say that sunbeds aren't all that bad as long as they're used in a moderate way. I mean no need for a damn tan 24/7

I personally like pale skin so yeah, that has somehting to do with it :gasp:

I'm paler than Casper. I really can't stand the concept of tanning. Yet, if I had to chose, I would have to choose the bed. It's much safer, even though it can be a hassle, I would choose it simply because skin cancer doesn't sound all that great.

I don't like the idea of sunbeds whatsoever, there's the odd one or two people I talk to at college that either go on the sunbed or fake tan. Fake tan generally looks quite horrible when gone wrong and lasts a limited period so is probably more costly as well. But then again, someone said last week they'd been on the sunbeds 8 minutes every morning and night for three days, I mean Jesus Christ...that's a long time for sunbeds >.> And she actually smelled like she'd been cooked inside out, which I've noticed on everyone on sunbeds. Tbh, to me there's been enough evidence to adivse people not to use them.

Youre not even supposed to go on more than one session in 24 hours, she shouldnt have been allowed :gasp:

And it costs more to use the bed Id wager, I pay £2.50 for 6 minutes twice weekly or about 6 quid for a bottle of tanning stuff which can last me ages if i only use it for nights out. Depends how often you use it I suppose. Beds are more convenient, you dont have to apply a sunbed for one OR wait for the fucker to dry, worry about it streaking etc etc. THAT was a nightmare. I only ever got that moisturisr stuff with a hint of tan because I knew Id fuck up with actual fake tan and I was like, so pale I was transparent, so it just wouldnt of worked on me.

Ya sunbeds are bad news. I remember when i went on a week cruise and got a little tan, my eyes never looked so shinny :P so if u want to tan do wat i do and get on top of the roof, lay down a towel and tan up there =)

That'd be grand if a, i could get on my roof and b. we had the weather to be able to DO that. It's shite over here, options are either, sun bed, fake tan or live with being pale, unless you are naturally tanned, which sadly Im not.

Anyway, Im a clumsy fuck Id fall off and kill myself, Iv already fallen off a house once thanks, and I wasonly half way up, imagine the damage I could do falling off my ROOF

Sunbeds are safer for me in that respect 8F

She's has her own. Of course, she annoys the fuck out of me since she's egotistical. She can fry for all I care
Of course, I can see why people use sunbeds mind, we have shitty whether over here in Britain so you probably lie out in the sun all summer and come back in more wet than you are brown :monster:

Nah, I've only been tanning maybe twice in the 23 years I've been alive and it's just never been something I cared about. Although I did live in southern California for half of my life, I already have a sort of olive skin tone that makes me look like I have a natural tint to my skin. I don't live in a very sunny place anymore, but the color of my skin has never been a big deal to me. I'd much rather be a little paler and healthy than to have old leathery skin with an increased chance of skin cancer and loss of elasticity. Plus, my skin will look much more healthy at an older age, especially since I don't smoke or do anything else either.

I'm a natural redhead, so my skin is really, really pale. I've only ever got anything close to a tan once in my life, when I went on a 3 week holiday, which basically meant staying at a beach for hours every day. Even then, all I got was an orangy skin tone. Sunbeds don't work, and I would look ridiculous with a fake tan.

If you think about it, there's always a risk involved, both with sunbeds and plain old sun tanning... But fake smear-on tans just look awful in my opinion.
