While I don't play these games anymore, I enjoyed them as a kid. Back then, I thought Spyro was the most engaging, varied and original game on the planet - I later realised how at fault I was. For me, Spyro was a true introduction to what I'd classify as gaming (Disney's Dinosaur doesn't quite suffice.) Since I loved it so much as a kid, I felt like making a thread about it.

Anyway, even if you don't like either now, nor did back then, which do you prefer?

I have to say I always preferred Spyro the Dragon. I enjoyed it more and felt the levels were far more varied - although I wouldn't say that's necessarily so now.
The one thing that annoyed me most about Crash was the fact I died when I walked into the water. I always enjoyed swimming in water, in any game. So the ability to do that in Spyro 2 and 3 was a great plus. I also felt Spyro was more varied and less linear. The levels were just as linear, sure enough, but they felt less so. I enjoyed Crash from time to time, but I felt restricted and the path was set with no other direction.
While I dislike Spyro now, I'll remember it for all the enjoyment it brought me as a kid. Crash never brought me much enjoyment.

However, I really enjoyed Crash Bandicoot on the Gameboy Advance while I disliked Spyro. However, this thread is about the PS1 games!

So, opinions?

I've only played Spyro 3, but I think I enjoyed that more than Crash. Not to say that they aren't fun though. But it does get a bit repetitive and boring after a while.
I never could get the secret eggs in Spyro 3 though. =[

I prefer Spyro over Crash bandicoot, purely for storyline purposes, Spyro gets different stories going and different baddies, not to forget the humourous allies like hunter. Whereas Crash Bandicoot...every crash game you end up against Cortex just with a different mix of bosses and there never seems to be much change in it. Only about 30/40 stages until it finishes and the stages are not that difficult, Spyro has larger areas to explore for lots of secrets, unlockables and other treats. So Spyro>Crash Bandicoot IMO

Hmmm interesting one, but I prefer Crash over Spyro. Simply because of Crash Bandicot 3 and CTR, and the multi tap option in CTR, where my brother and I got together and raced with two others, or just the two of us. It was really funn while I don't have such funny and happy memories for Spyro, however I admit that I only played Spyro once or twice, while Crash has been in my colection for quite a few years.

So I like Crash more, simply because the 4th and 5th, maybe the third as well while the first two sucked in my opinion. =P

Ugh...Spyro and Crash Bandicoot both suck. I'll go with Spyro since I haven't played as much Crash Bandicoot.

Crash Bandicoot racing isn't half bad, though...

I always preferred Spyro the Dragon, that was a great game! I loved, and I used to play it over and over.

I do like Crash Bandicoot too though :)

Ohhh my goodness. I love both of these games. Unfortunately, I haven't played them since I was like 12 years old! XD

I think I like Spyro just a teeny tiny bit more. ^.^

Im not really a fan of either of them even though i played Spyro when i was little with my sis. I got really sick of it after awhile.

Seing as i have never played Crash Bandicoot im going with Spyro.

I preferred Crash over Spyro.....I rememebr trying to play Spyro and I was trying to jump on things and I kept missing.....it really irked me and I never bothered again
I fell out with platform games after that I was like what's wrong with the 2D left to right jobbie!?!
Once I'd calmed down, it was only really Crash I ever played

Spyro! I liked Crash enough, but I was all about Spyro when I was a kid. Heck, sometimes I'll play it just for the nostalgia I get.

I played a little bit of both many, many years ago. I quite enjoy Spyro more than Crash, but I think that was because the environment for Spyro is more ideal for my taste. And well...you get to play a mini dragon. xD Who wouldn't enjoy that?
