Anime Soulja Boy rips Off Death Note

Despite not being able to understand a single word he said in the first 30 seconds of the song, the beat is undeniable.

I was unaware that you could copy and paste a beat. -__-

Soulja Boy drops his mixtape "Death Note." The album consists of eight song that were all recorded at his SODMG studio in Atlanta. From first listen this is not the fun and dancing S. Beezy that the world has come to love. He has toughened his flow and says he is ready to compete with the best and prove that he belongs on top. Check the flip for your free listen and/or download.
ARGGG you freeking wack ass, you cant touch ANIME, YOU ARE VIOLATING THIS !!! EVIL , devilish!!!

THE ONLY GOOD SONG YOU EVER MADE was BOOTY MEAT ! the rest is straight up BS!

I don't mind rappers sampling other tunes when they do a good job of it, but this is awful. It's like the worst thing to rap over. It's a good thing he didn't do it with L's theme, then I would've been furious :rage:

Exactly. You can use a tune that is featured in an anime or game, as long as you sound good, it is fine by me. But, as always, Soulja Boy sounds like some guy on dope. He does not sound good, and he has forever ruined this tune for me :shame:

it's called sampling, not stealing, and it's perfectly legal

Is it really? He took a theme from the anime, didn't even attempt a different arrangement and rapped over it. Never mind him not even crediting Yoshihisa Hirano and Hideki Taniuchi, the original anime composers, but how is that right? :/

EDIT: He used the WHOLE theme and rapped over it, not just a few 10-20 second blurbs D=

That's what rap is. That's how rap started. That's the core of the genre. Taking a snippet of a song and throwing lyrics over the top of it.

And he may have taken the entire song, but let's not kid ourselves, it's not the most intricate piece of music in the world. It has the same backbeat for the entire 2 minutes, with a few different instrumental sounds overlayed for 15-20 seconds at a time.

Side note: Soulja Boy exemplifies everything that is wrong with modern rap. Limited creativity, severe lack of originality, weak, poorly constructed lyrics trying to show how 'hard' he is.

Shit man, i've seen people who borrow a small miniscule snippet and get sued, and this is pretty much the entire thing with no alteration.

Soulja boy has some great english speaking skills. No surprise comin' from the rap and hip hop genre. But hey, let's ask this guy about "sampling" music.

Meh. He tries to be deep at the beginning by stating some beliefs that I happen to hold and can sort of be applied to the story of Death Note, but when the actual song starts its' the same bitches and hoes and guns kind of stuff that stereotypes rap. Not really interesting.

About the whole sampling thing, I've heard other stuff like that. Some using the themes from shows like the Andy Griffin Show and Matlock among other things.

This is... ridiculous :ffs: good job ruining a pretty piano theme with a rap about guns :ffs: I really hate the fact that the mixtape itself is called Death Note as well. in the same font and everything. :omg:

I lolled. Does he mention anything about the anime or is it just totally "This is my music bitch."? Is he in denial of stealage?

Well it sounds terrible but that's beside the point. I don't really have a problem with sampling providing they get permission and give credit where it is due (and the fact that the promotional art has the deathnote logo on it suggests that he did give some credit at least).

As for my thoughts on sampling in general. In a way you can kind of relate the idea of sampling to the punk movement in the 70's. Punk promoted the idea of expressing yourself and ideas through music whilst possessing fairly limited musical abilities. Rap then took it a step further by introducing the idea of expressing yourself musically without even using instruments. However over the years rap has been bastardized to the point where almost no mainstream artists express any thoughts worth listening to.

So basically sampling in the mainstream context has really just given people with no musical ability the opportunity to get rich by making music. Not to say that good rap doesn't exist, but you certainly have to dig to find it.

Oh my God, this is beyond ridiculous and how hes like my music!! No its not lol. What a complete douchebag, he may as well say this has been taken from an anime and Im a rip off!!!

What did you all expect, its soulja boy? The worlds biggest ballbag. You cant honestly expect him to write anything by himself.

Not really, but I'd hoped maybe he'd at least have someone to write for him. Apparently they're too lazy as well. :monster:

How the hell do these American celebrities know of Anime and crap? It's so weird.

Edit: It'd be frickin' hilarious to see Light or L getting angry about this, lol.

Oh my god, think of the fangirls reactions :mokken:

EDit 2:

Wait, wait, wait, back the fook up.

His 2009-10 album is called "dre" and the track list does not include this song at all.
