Should I open it?

I have a sealed version of Final Fantasy V and VI for PS1 (the Anthology collection). I've played a ROM of FF VI (which is legal since I own the game) and want to open it so I can play on my PS3. Should I keep it sealed and sell it or open and play?
 
It's exteremely rare so I would keep it sealed and sell it for some good bucks on Ebay.
 
Can't you download Final Fantasy VI from the PSN? :hmmm: I'm pretty sure you can and it's not too expensive. You could seel the sealed version for quite a bit of money or keep it and enjoy having a collector's item! :)
 
Im almost certain you can get it off PSN as Salmakia said. Would you even be able to play the copy you have on PS3 with its compatability issues? If you've not got one of those 60gig efforts then i think you'd be sorely dissapointed if you tried to play it and it didnt work
 
If you haven't decided yet, I would definitely advise keeping it sealed and in perfect condition! They are becoming so very rare. I think they are now selling for around 70-60 dollars to this day! And that's used! xD
 
Yes, you can. In the UK it costs £7.99. Not a bad price considering I paid £7 for my GBA version a few weeks ago.

I'd keep it sealed, if you haven't opened it, have a look around on places like ebay, then perhaps you can advertise it- I mean it's not always the best price you get on ebay (for sellers, I mean), so if you can find somewhere to advertise retro games or whatever, perhaps that'd be your best bet- when you're willing to sell it

However, if you got the game to play the game, by all means open it, that's what it's there for. I wouldn't refrain from opening it just because it's sealed if you really want to play the game.

It costs $17 at Amazon so I wouldn't consider that rare or expensive. I doubt you could sell it for that much. If it's black label, probably $40 or $50 at most. Like Bambi said, there are some compatibility issues with the PS3 so playing it on that might not work anyway. So keeping it sealed and playing it on PSN might not be a bad idea anyway. :lew:
 
if it was an unopened version of the one on snes it would be worth something..but as far as for the PS1... if you like the games, play them... if not...guess you can get some money towards another game :hmmm:

Open it and play it. Sony tanked the value of the game by releasing the games on PSN anyways. The only true value of the collection is the audio disk that is in the collection.
 
Is it black or green label? The 'greatest hit' label takes down the value.
I've an unsealed black label FFVII in a shop for $150, so I'm pretty sure a sealed Final Fantasy Anthology should go for some good money. However, the sentimental value would outdo the monetary value for me- I'd keep it unsealed and looking awesome on a shelf or something.
 
Eh, it all depends on what you want more. Personally I don't wanna sit there and stare at a game in a package, I'd want to play it. Now if you have other ways to play the game like you said via the ROM, then go ahead and keep it packed up and sealed. It's gonna take a bit before the game goes up in value since it is available by other methods now, but if you're craving to play it, go for it. The game was meant for adventure and fun.
 
The ps3 can play anthology even if you buy the new model as its a ps1 game. Only ps2 game legacy support was removed. PS1 games were always played through a software emulator included in the ps3 operating system so it will always be able to play ps1 games.

As for should you open it, personally i wouldn't but I like having games in pristine condition.
 
Just because you own the game itself doesn't mean you're legally allowed play a rom of it. If I buy a car does that mean I can go out and steal the same model of car? The PS3 probably wont play it, so it'd be safer to keep it sealed for now if you ever do want it for something

PS3 do play PS1 disks just an fwi.

Also if you want to play it, open it up, if you don't sell it, that simple. I say it is a good game and should open it up and play it. If you can't stand old 2D graphics for whatever reason, then sell it. The game is great though, amazing characters and plot and is a great treasure to have.

Well every game I own that is PS1 plays fine on my Ps3 slim (y)

All PS1 games work on any PS3 fat or slim, but the PS2 games don't only two versions of the Fat PS3's from what I remember
 
I had two sealed copies for awhile. One was a Y-fold seal and one was a greatest hit with a shrink wrap seal. I finally opened the shrink wrap seal a couple says ago because I wanted to play VI on a TV screen.

Like someone said, unless it is a black label it is not all that much money. I never open things, I love to collect. I would buy a used version on eBay, and keep the thing sealed, not for money or value but for my preference with collecting.

*EDIT: I know Square was selling a couple of the PSX FF titles on their website a few months to a year ago. I am pretty sure Anthology was one of them, along with VIII, and also Chronicles or Origins (maybe both but I think it was just Origins). I just tried to check now and I couldn't find any of them though.

I'm pretty sure I paid close to that price at release time and they were sellin out in my area. Edit: Derps for me I thought we were talking about the SNES cart :(

I second (and third) this sentiment. If you have the game sealed, I'd keep it that way while buying a used one via ebay or from a game convention like Too Many Games.

Somewhat related to this, I still have the box for Final Fantasy 3 (USA), but of course it's empty - though it looks like-new! :)
