Had a feeling his time was going to be soon...

"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," his publicist, Annett Wolf, said in a statement released Monday evening.

Watch the Barbara Walters Special "Patrick Swayze: Last Dance" Tuesday at 10 pm ET.

Patrick Swayze's wife Lisa told ABC News' Barbara Walters that she and his brother Donny Swayze, were by his side when he died at his ranch on the outskirts of Los Angeles.

Swayze, best known for starring in the blockbuster films "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost," was diagnosed with cancer in January 2008, but outlived the prognosis of just several months he received.

His "Dirty Dancing" co-star, Jennifer Gray, said Swayze "was a rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace."

"Gorgeous and strong, he was a real cowboy with a tender heart," she said after learning of his death. "He was fearless and insisted on always doing his own stunts, so it was not surprising to me that the war he waged on his cancer was so courageous and dignified.

"When I think of him, I think of being in his arms when we were kids, dancing, practicing the lift in the freezing lake, having a blast doing this tiny little movie we thought no one would ever see," she said.
His last television interview was in December 2008 with ABC News' Barbara Walters.

Swayze spoke candidly to Walters about his prognosis and vowed to fight his cancer and "keep my heart and my soul and my spirit open to miracles."

I think my favorite role of his was in Donnie Darko, as the pedophilic motivational speaker. Cunningham, IIRC.

But man, a bunch of celebs are passing relatively young lately. It's kinda bizarre. I know this one was expected, but still.

Actually a bit of a surprise to me, I don't really keep up on these things... tbh, I actually already thought he was dead :monster:

May not agree that he was a rare breed of raw 'masculinity' and grace... :wacky: But w/e, RIP dood

Dropping like FLIES I tell you

Eh, can't say I saw this coming either, although I do vaguely recal something or other about him being ill a while back...:hmmm:

Shame, but well, shit happens

I don't mind if they put all his old films on tv at least, I can sit and watch them all like the big gay I am. Awesome

Edit* Ooh I better tell my mum, haha

Now we'll have lots of tributes saying how great he was etc etc.
We'll have lots of bullshit about how he was such a great actor just because he died, he was in good in one cult classic (Donnie Darko) and in a rubbish one.
He wasn't particularly important whilst he was alive, his death shouldn't change that.

I knew he was sick but that was the extent of my knowledge on the matter. >_<

A co-worker of mine today told me the news. It's sad when someone dies I suppose, but if you don't know them or really care for them, it doesn't really make you that upset. =/

Because of this I've have been debating with myself which one of his movies I disliked the most: Ghost or Dirty Dancing? Damn you Patrick Swayze :wacky:

Well I heard about his cancer but I had no idea when he was passing, so I guess that's the surprise. I hardly watch the news only see it in the mornings via internet, so hmm. He definitely was better than Damon or Afleck or any of the pop icons we have out today. He was more on the feminine side of the man pool, but he got all the girls because of it. So anyway RIP big daddy, hopefully we will see some light out of all this.

Oh and I don't have TV so thankfully I don't have to see the marathons. Sigh..unlike Jacko.

I knew Patrick Swayze had cancer, but I had no idea it was terminal and he was going to pass so soon. <.< I was actually kinda bummed when I heard the news. Dirty Dancing and Ghost were two of my absolute favourite movies. I also loved his song "She's Like the Wind" as well. I think he was a pretty important actor in the biz and a great loss to the acting world. He'll be missed, I'm sure, by fans and family alike. RIP Patrick.

Holy crap, I didn't even remember him in Ghost, but come on! Hasn't anyone seen his instant classic Red Dawn? I loved that movie and I could barely stop laughing at the South Park Parody of it Gray Dawn. Patrick Swayze, you were awesome and sorry your life was made shorter by the cancer.

R.I.P Patrick Swayze.

He was truly a gifted actor. I especially loved him in Dirty Dancing and Ghost, probably his two best movies to me. It came as a big shock because I never thought he'd pass away so soon. My thoughts go out to his close family and friends.
