Ring of Fates

Hello all. I am brand new to the Forum.
I have reached the top of Sinners' Isle. I am trying to use Meeth's winged pot to get across to the portal. I pick up the pot and run and jump, but never make it all the way to the portal. I keep landing in the lava. What am I missing?
