Prometheus

In the original Aliens, the crew of the Nostromo is tiny. Less than 10 people, IIRC.

In the beginning when they show everyone in stasis pods hibernating & later when everyone is gathered during Weyland's holographic eulogy / presentation and the two archaeologists with the holographic cube offer their exposition -- that's the entire crew.

I think practically all of them meet their doom battling that zombiefied scientist.

It looks like Elizabeth Shaw's mutant, tentacle, baby claimed some victims also considering there's blood on the walls of the room its trapped inside.

At the end of the first Aliens movie only Ripley and the pet cat are left alive. I guess its a nod or reference to the first movie. :ness:

lol David's the pet cat.

A few people also died fighting the Engineer.

I felt that the some of the character's weren't given enough time to react to some of the situations. For example, getting the mutant alien baby out of the female scientist. After all that happens, she doesn't even mention it to anyone for the rest of the movie. Not even a, "I JUST GAVE BIRTH TO A FUCKING TENTACLE MONSTER!!" or anything. They just move on.

Other than that, I did like the movie, and I probably would see the next one that came out.

i kind of took it that way, but it really did need addressing. or maybe not i suppose, since it took me a while to pick up on

Prometheus was such a huge disappointment. It was supposed to explain the origin of the Xenomorphs, but instead, we just got a jumble of indirect roots that ended with a giant WTF? scenario. *sigh* so disappointing.

You can really tellt hat Ridley Scott is a old, hard-science fiction guy. He doesn't tell us shit and dangles obscurities in front of our noses like a damn carrot. *grrrrr*

Yeah I just wanted to post to say I loved this flick. It was very sensational in my opinion. I watched it back to back after I saw expendables 2 and I was very impressed with the 3D an happy that I watched it second.I noticed only a few things I can remember, keep in mind I did not scroll through the rest of the posts to see if i had been mentioned. It cannot be a prequal to aliens because it dates almost a century later than the original alien beginning. Although I will admit that it had many great connections such as the ships technologies and of course a cyborg who is overly obsessed with the lifeforms they discover. In fact the only DIRECT connection I noticed was the company funder Weyland (old wheel chair dude) was also half of the company name you see printed on things in the aliens movies. You see the name weyland often in two three and perhaps resurection... but never number one... which Ironically was the only one he ever directed (cameron was number two, and I forgot the others). Unless they make a sequal roping time travel in I dont think i could prequal the originals but might perhaps have something deep to do with the war between the predators and aliens. Perhaps the humans were targeted for detruction because of their deathly interest in the aliens species. At the end of the day I think we can only make theories... I even saw online one theory that the creature at the beginning was creating life on earth or something or other. All in all I thought it was a great movie.

it was set 60 years before alien...

Oh is it? Well I guess I misread it when I watched it recently. congrats ^^. Either way I do not believe this movie to be a prequal. On thing that trips me out is that maybe the difference in time is not really so important. I mean reguarding the Distance these planets are from Earth we have to take into account the possibility that some of these things could even happen somewhat closer to each other than we think. I mean after all they are different locations in the universe.

Online I located a fun theory in itself. Keep in mind it is not mine but it looks fun.
Is it possible that the timelines of ALIEN and Prometheus may overlap? Here's what I mean: Interstellar mining may have preceded scientific exploration, and the Nostromo could have been an early mining expedition that was away for a very long time. The company may have been aware of a possible scientific exploration in the future based on information they found just and anticipated they may need to use one of their mining ships as a contingency plan, so they added science officers to the mining crews for that reason. The Nostromo launches, travelling for years to a system far beyond the Zeta Reticuli system. Meanwhile, back on Earth, technology advances and more clues are found which finally allow for the mission in Prometheus. The events of Prometheus (and possibly the sequel or sequels) occur...Years later the Nostromo passes close enough to investigate. The events in ALIEN happen. To me this answers a few questions. First, the Nostromo has less advanced technology because it's an older ship, by a decade or so, than the Prometheus. Even Ash seems like a less advanced robot. Second, considering how long the Nostromo's round trip would have to have been, it doesn't quite make sense that they pass by Zeta Reticuli just 30 years after Prometheus if they left afterwards.

ANYWAY. I found online promethus 2 tied for 2014 apparently

whether or not you like the idea of it being a prequel, it is. ridley scott has gone on record since pre-production began that it would be a prequel. that, and the fact that prometheus has identical technological trends at the weyland corporation, and even a xenomorph!

The word "Prequal" has a loose definition when its used in a scenario such as this.... so the TIMELINE prequals the others sure, but that does not mean it is an ALIEN prequal. In fact like others have countlessly said it has very little if no connection with ALIENS other than the universe and company affiliations that are set in prometheus. Following are some links where he directly stated it is not really an aliens prequal.

At most he man declares its more of a prequal to himself. Perhaps its a prequal to the same universe or alien genre... but not a prequal to the direct ALIEN film. So while it is a prequal, it is also not a prequal.

In the end I love a movie that makes you think and ponder the possibilities to yourself, and I am happy that it has little or no connection with the originals. Because I agree with the director that the aliens movies have been played out and they are no longer scary. He does say he intended it to be a prequal, but then lost sight of that because of the many sequals to te original. So in the end we are given something different that I believe stands on its own two feet and will perhaps grow into something we later will be able to acknowlege as a unique and only slightly influenced by the former movies. However to each his own and there is a lot of room for speculation.

i can see what he's getting at. it's very much related - the xenomorph says it all. prometheus sets alien up as a spin off, since it's very much a stand alone film.

I think he wants them to not really be related... even though they are lol. However I guess its not a direct prequal unless he says so. I mean they do tend to stand alone by themselves. And you can enjoy either film without seeing the other. My girlfriend watched prometheus with me and had never seen aliens. In fact at the time I had no fucking idea what prometheus was about rofl! I thought it was gonna be some kind of fantasy or historical myth tale simply because of the name. I was in a hell of a surprise and it caught us both off guard. It took a turn for horror when we were expecting fantasy... which made it that much more enjoyable in my opinion. Simply not doing any research about this movie made it a lot more enjoyable because I expected nothing from it. There were moments I thought of the alien movies... like the alien in the stomach, the spaceship, and the facehugger. however it was not until the very end when I saw the TWO MOUTHS of the beast when I realized it must be some kind of connection. And i was taking a piss when the director part came on haha. Afterwards I did a lot of research to find a connection online and came up with about didly squat =(. I am happy because I hate AVP... and ressurection was not so entertaining. I am happy to see him do something similiar yet original all the same. I hope number 2 is just as good hehe.

I loved Prometheus, I know it wasn't going to be as good as the first two movies but I wanted it to surpass the third and laughable fourth in which I believe it did in spades. I am looking forward to the Blu-Ray release of the movie in which contains an alternate beginning and ending for the movie and it comes out on my birthday as well :D. I can't wait to see where the rest of the possible new franchise will go to.

i don't understand why the alternate beginning was left on the cutting room floor. so many people were confused by the opening, and i don't see how they didn't see that coming. i hope the blu-ray at least clears that up

Second time I watched Prometheus I realised the Giant was on Earth for some reason and created life accidentally?
For another reason he comitted suicide?

Why was he there? banished? Created life on purpose or by accident?

Its pretty much bullshit tbh. Later on the Giants realised it was a mistake and humans needed to be destroyed lool

And I thought it was a pure prequel cause thats how the Aliens came to be Hybrid of Alien snake and Human. (baby from pregnant woman? tentacle octopus changed into Alien somehow)

Man tbh this movie was pretty much bullshit. I think Im going to watch ALIENS again and again cause PROMETHEUS doesnt make sense.

Even standalone it doesnt make sense. I wished it didnt tie to ALIENS at all.
Pff..just my opinion.

Well ohri the good news is that it didnt really tie aliens in together that much except a couple names and the way they named planets haha. Honestly if you just forget aliens alltogether its much easier to enjoy hehe. I do not think he ever intends on putting these two together. I believe even after sequals they will have little relation to each other other than the being itself. I mean the universe is big. I think aliens is just about humans stumbleing into something nasty... and these movies might be more big picture kind of things with a little bit more of a pilisophical view. You would go insane trying to link them to each other hehe. Instead try to look at it as something original and just look forward with curiosiy to see where it goes ^^. If the director dies before finishing... then we can go nuts ^^. I loved watching it in beijing. Usually after people finish a movie all I hear is blah blah blah blah. I LOVE IT.... when a movie finishes with silence because people do not quite know what to say or think.
