Nintendo Pokémon Black and White

Er... What? Black and White's aspect is completely different from the rest of the game series

Yes, there are some differences here, but there's nothing completely different. Visual differences aside, it's still pretty much a familiar package inside the cartridges. The absence of gyms does affect the typical discourse structure of the franchise's games to some extent, but there's still nothing too different there. Rather than gym battles, I assume you'll just face challenges from other people. The inclusion of an antagonistic team (Plasma) adds to the familiarity as well.

So while I do acknowledge there are changes to keep things interesting, nothing's completely different.

Just something I thought of. Is Team Plasma after both Reshiram and Zekrom? Cause it would make sense if they were only after Zekrom as it is the electric one. What exactly does this have to do with Yin and Yang? What will the 3rd pokemon be. You know the one of governs the other 2? Zekrom is a Black Yin pokemon. Reshiram is a white yang pokemon yet their versions are completely opposite :gasp: This is really interesting. Also Alot of the official art of the new pokemon can be seen here http://serebii.net/blackwhite/pokemon.shtml

Wait...The main character is Older? And there's an abscence of Gyms? I kinda like this game already. I wish they would come up with some creative new pokemon or something. The no gym thing doesn't bother me. As long as I can battle over wifi and have a secret base I'm good ^_^ I wish they would remake the Hoen reigon for Ds though. Emerald has still been my favorite pokemon game so far...

Not sure where you guys are getting the absence of gyms thing, there are screen shots of the player within a couple gyms on serebii.net. :hmm: I do like the whole older thing. A bit more believable than a 10 year old foiling a whole underground organization out to control the world.

I'm liking this game the more I see it, and the new Pokémon so far are hitting more than they're missing with me. Hoenn will always have the worst Pokémon, imo, since apart from the starters, most of the Hoenn Pokémon are dreadful. Simply dreadful.

I'm glad there's still gonna be Gyms and such. I was talking to my friend about the rumour that there will be no Gyms / Elite 4, etc, and she just went "Well, what's the point of the game then?" and she has a point. No Gyms = No Pokémon.

I really have no idea where people are getting the idea of no gyms or league.

Just because it's taken time for the gyms to be released, doesn't meant they're not going to be in the game.

It's been revealed that the first gym is Grass. Ran by the character Dento who will replace Brock as Ash's male companion in the anime. The second gym is ran by a woman named Aloe. Though the type hasn't been revealed yet.

Without Gyms... it just wouldn't be right.

Contests and Pokethalon are gone, replaced by the Pokemon musical. XD Sounds fun

:hmmm:

That may have been my misinterpretation, then, although I thought that I had read somewhere that Black and White aren't intended to be as Gym orientated as previous installments. And it's not as if Gyms make up every game, anyway. Look at Pokemon Ranger, for example. Yes, there's the typical Team whoever trying to cause disruption to the region, but it had no Gyms, which turned out surprisingly well, I thought. Then there's Pokemon Dungeon, as horribly repetitive as they are. So it's really not impossible to have a decent, non-league based game.

Okay so I went to serebii.net and read everything. IROTATION BATTLES!!!!!! Those are going to be so epic! And I think I even read something about friggin videochat?! This game is going to rock!

EDIT: Dont underestimate Hoen pokemon. My Blaziken has taken down many legendaries, even tampered ones. Being too quick to judge a pokemon can result in loss...and Sinnoh pokemon would be my least favorites....:hmmm:

Same here. I vaguely remember reading a rumour that popped up on a gaming blog that mentioned a lesser emphasis on gyms as well. I thought that was weird because otherwise the animé itself would suffer a bit as a result of this. What would be Ash's purpose in this new region? Well, rumours were rumours I suppose. I haven't really been up to date with the information anymore.

However, games like Pokémon Ranger and the Mystery Dungeon are just spin-off titles with different gameplay elements. They don't form the main generation games, so the developers are free to make them different.

Triple battles will change the pace of the game. I mean they work really differently then double and single. You will need a great strategy. Lets say eartquake is used by the 2 pokemon(right and left) The middle pokemon will take double the damage unless it has levitate or something. They are really interesting. You may move your pokemon to change this though. The one in the middle will always be able to damage everyone on the field. Your left and right pokemon however can only attck the opponents left and right pokemons. Also for the first time ever we can use items in Multiplayer battles if we turn Miracle shooter on. Nobody will use it though.. Also THERE are gyms. Just 2 gym leaders have been announced so far. Black city and white forest have different events depending on the game. They are exclusive to black and white respectively .

I think they were talking more on the cosmetic appeal. First gen Pokemon are classic and are the basis for what Pokemon should be. Second gen has some pre-evos and evos of the first, and introduced some new ones. However, third gen was purely based on creating new Pokemon, and some of them are really really shit looking and just utterly pointless. Fourth gen went about the way second gen did, with some evo's of pre-existing Pokemon.

Both of those game sub-series are crap, moreso Pokemon Dungeon. I was so excited to get a game from each sub series, but stopped playing easily. I love the idea of actually, being a Pokemon, Dungeons had a lot of promise with that, but it's the same God damn thing over and over again.. with the same sort of 'mini cutscenes' over and over after you just did the same thing... It's possibly the most repetitive game I have ever played, there is no room for doing something new.

Also the cosmetic differences in Black and White are startling.. there are screenshots on serebii.net that shot the same area that appears differently in each version... either a bit more run down or rural. Like it's almost as if they take place at different times. It really gives you a feel that you're playing a different version, and not the same game with a different name.

Ooooh looks! Thanks for clearing that up. I'd say a majority of new pokemon aren't looking so hot....at least the ones after the Johto Reigon in my opinion. They are coming out with some nice ones though...

Some of them are okay, you look at it and think 'Okay, that looks like a Pokemon.' Some others are just god awful. Spinda? Nosepass? Sableye? Castform? Ugh...

Well, Famitsu seem to be impressed by the game, giving it a perfect score -

It's made me quite excited about the game now. Sure, some of the Pokémon look awful, however, the official art is often different to the Pokémon in sprite form. Although, personally, I've seen more hits than misses. Yeah, some look awful, but others look really good.

Tbh I saw nobody updating it with this. I thought I would post but was lazy. Nice to know it got 40/40 finally though :awesome: I am still dissapointed in the designs though :hmph:

I think if they stick to the foundations that they have with most of the other pokemon titles and tweak it here and there like normal it should be a solid game. That being said, I hate Famitsu, they gave Final Fantasy XII 40/40 and Final Fantasy XIII 39/40 and neither were anywhere near those scores. :wacky:

Good for Black and White to get a full score, but seeing as this is Famitsu, it doesn't really mean much anymore. In the past, perfect scores are considered such rarities. Nowadays, they're coming in left, right and centre particularly for big name franchises like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter, which is rather suspicious. So I wonder nowadays if Famitsu even rewards certain games based on their merits anymore.

That being said, I don't doubt Black and White. They're most likely going to be great games as far as I know based on the previous games. But I'm not basing this off what Famitsu says.

Famitsu does give 40 out of 40's to those kind agames but hmmm I guess Black and white got a higher score because online random battle was added and it has aot more features then D/P etc etc. I think It is a great score. Well I really would not know till other good reviewers start reviewing it. Though imho it deserves 40 out of 40. I mean it isnt that different but online battle is much better than just battling friends tbh. But I do agree on the fact that it just rewards games with a 40 out of 40 sometimes just cause it is FF or DQ :lew: FF XIII getting a 40 out of 40 was just stupid. Let us just see Olivia xD

/double post. All the pokemon of the 5th generation are now revealed. I am impressed and really dissapointed with some. Oh and the last one is ripped off of my idea. He looks the same as the pokemon I drew ages ago http://serebii.net/blackwhite/pokemon.shtml

Truly? Wow. So how many new Pokémon are there? There was 493 Pokédex entries before, so now it is that plus how ever many the 5th generation introduces. :D

Time for me to see all the new Pokémon, I hope there's at least a good handful of cool looking Pokémon in the mix, as that is a very big part of it for me, it is Pokémon, if I don't like the different creatures for the most part, that is a pretty big letdown, so my figures are crossed as I check that web page... ^^;
