How do you feel about it?

Deals like buy now pay 12 months later etc etc. At the time it feels so good. Your in the shop like wow i could walk out today with this massive tv or brand new laptop ( i chose both ) And i have a whole year to pay for it. Plenty time to save a lil money.
Except im not the kind of person who ever saves money, im the kind who spends money. A year passes and youv got like 2 weeks to pay the bill and your thinkin oh fuck im such a knob :rage:
But if you want something and you want it there and then its awesome :ryan:
 
I haaaaate it. Ive done it once, with my TV. Never again. Buy now pay X time is even worse, because youve had it for ages, then you get hit by a bill and think, fuck me, i could of had this paid off a year ago :rage:

The APR as well :rage:

I just hate being tied to shit like that. I'd rather cough up and skint myself a month, than pay it in bits over several, it just fucks me off. And if its not the massive amounts of APR, and they try to suck you in with NO APR!!!111!!! You find that the prices of whatever you are after are way higher than RRP anyway :hmph: OR, like that horrible bright house place, massive amounts of APR and the shit they sell is super expensive, the only time I ever go in there is with someone else and I do nowt bit express my disgust at the place

Summat like a car, fair enough, but I wouldnt be best pleased about that either haha
 
I cant do what you do BIG CASINO. If I don't have the money for something, (havent tried it yet :smartass: ) then I'm not going to buy it, (unless its a house), I saved up for my car and bought it. I know it can be really tempting to just shop-amok, and then not "worry" about the payments for a year, but I know that the amount will increase due to interest and hidden fees, so that's something I will never do. For my point of view its a matter of priority...if you want something special, then cut back spendings on weekends and then save up.
 
Steve and I did that with all of our furniture.

We had four years no repayments and interest free.

Obviously after that they will start charging you interest and you'd be dickhead if you didn't pay it off beforehand seeing as you did have four years and they always send you out monthly statements. XD

We had ours paid off in two years.

Mainly because the first year we had just moved out and were trying to pay off other things that needed paying off first and then the next year we paid off the furniture in a few lump sums of money.

I love interest free loans. I'm on a couple right now actually. For my computer and our massage chair. <3
 
I've never done this, and I don't think I'd be equipped to do it...knowing me, I wouldn't have the money by the deadline, and I'd be in some serious shit as a result. I prefer to pay for things immediately and forget about it. I suppose for things like a mortgage and a car its not really possible - unless you win the lottery - but for everything else with that option, I'd ignore it.

I DID pay for my iPod in installments, but that was to my mother, since I used her store card to do it, and it was easier to remember with her nagging me every week. xD
 
I'll only do this if it's something I desperately need and can't afford at the time. Generally though, I'm not a fan of it at all. I'll only buy something if I can afford it. If I don't need it and I can't afford it, I'll save up and pinch pennies until I can afford it. It's why I don't have an overdraft either, I don't believe in buying something unless you can afford it.

The only things I can think of that I wouldn't be able to just buy outright would be a house or a car, but those are different really.
 
Interest free loans are good in general if your income is stable and secure - but my rule of thumb is that your first month's payment - even if you're not obligated to make one - is 50%. Its a great tool if you're doing significant remodeling or like projects. I've done it on kitchen cabinets as well as furniture and appliances

Once it's paid off - close the account. Opening the line and paying it down effectively won't do anything too harmful to your credit score but leaving it open will.
 
Holy fuck. We're actually doing this right now with our living room set and the giant TV we got with the set. I think the lady said we should be done with the payments for it by early 2015. When she said that I kinda spazzed out at everybody "this isn't actually gonna be ours for another 2 years?!?!?!" but now I get what we're doing. So far so good is really all I can say. ;)
 
Never done this and I don't really like the idea of it tbh. I'd rather just save my money and pay in full. I guess I don't like the idea of committing myself to an ongoing payment dealy of any kind. I can see how convenient it would be though.
 
Oh its definitely very convenient. Im planning to get a new TV soon. Theres nothing wrong with my current tv, its an LG 42'' LCD screen with 4 HDMI ports and 2 USB ports. Ive eyed up a 60'' plasma tv though. One of those that is like only 15mm thick. The picture quality is by far the best ive seen and it has plenty of HMDI ports. I find them to be handy, i like having everything plugged in and not having to switch over cables. Like my current tv it also has RGB outputs which are very handy for the PS2, the settings on it will allow me to make sure i get really good picture quality for the PS2, and not a blurry washed out picture.
Its also 3D which is a bonus. I wasn't worried about having a 3D TV. I had it in my head that I'd wait until the 3D technology got better before buying one. Itl be cool to have though, the ps4 or whatever will likely utilise 3D technology and itd be cool watching a film in 3D from time to time.
The TV itself is £700. Its on sale at the moment and it ill be on sale til the end of May. By mid May my money situation should be back to normal and hopefully il have my loan by then aswell. But enough boasting about this TV.

Ive been asking myself should i just pay for it outright or get it on finance. Theres much work i plan on doing around the house. Installing a new boiler and new radiators, carpets etc. Im thinking I might be better off getting the TV on finance. They have a buy now and pay any time within the next 8 months. You dont even pay any extra either. You pay the same price that you would if you bought it there and then. In 8 months i could quite easily save up money to pay for it. I could just put a small amount away each week, roughly £20 and id have enough. Im thinking that £20 is such a small amount that im not gunna miss that amount of money every week whereas £700 is a large chunk of cash and its not like i can get a boiler and new radiators on finance. Definitely leaning towards finance. Obviously il put away more than twenty quid a week, id prefer to have it payed off after around 6 months but its still a small amount of money.
Because im not paying extra either its even more tempting. What do you folks think?

i resent having my phone bill come out of my account once a month, never mind finance :lew:

ive still not changed my opinion on this topic, im still spitting feathers about being tied into that tv that i had and thats looonnnng gone now ha. i think what bugs me about it as well as all the added fees etc, is you're sill paying for something way down the line that not only is no longer new, but it's outdated and you know you can't get anything else til its paid off and then you are back int eh same boat as no one aint gunna give you near what you paid for it by even a fraction (especially for a tv) i ended up just giving mine away and was lucky enough to be able to get a new tv in the xmas sales for half price. its left the money situ abit tight for the next month, but i survived lol.

Lewis, all id say to that is, do i really need it? ive got a decent tv already, is it worht getting finance over it? id sooner save up and just buy it further down the line and by the tiem you have saved up, said tv will probably be cheaper/something better will be out anyway

If it was something you needed like, you had some 10 year old box with an arial on top, then id say consider it, but not if you already have a decent tv. another 6/8 monthsw wont make a dot of difference

you could buy it yourself for xmas, mine was xmas day i bought mine, wait for the sales, and then with the money you save you can buy beer!

EDIT* Forgot to say, tvs are ALWAYS on sale as there is always something new coming out!
 
Hell yeah its worth it :ohoho: Its a 60 inch bad boy tv. Its the pillar of a mans house. Having a big TV is like having a big willy. Sure you dont need it but its mighty great having one :wacky:
With most finance kelly its not a case of it coming off monthly. Well not with the types of deal I mentioned. Within that 8 months i can pay off as much as i want. One week i could pay off 30 quid and the next week only a fiver. Theres no direct debit coming of your account every month. You pay whatever you want within the allotted time. If you fail to do so however they will start billing you monthly and you will end up paying more than what you would have. thats the penalty though for buying something and not paying up. I guess thats something to think about. Making sure youl be able to pay it off. You dont wanna end up losing a job and not finding work only to remember youv got a big debt to pay off.
 
do you go in store to pay it or over the internet? my friend had a tv from brighthouse and they uesed to ring her every week as she could never be arsed going in to pay it hahah

i think il just always be against finance lol

is it interest free??? if it is then i suppose that wont make too much difference, if it isnt thats when i start saying it aint worth it

toms bro got a 50'' 3D tv in sale for 600 from currys or comet, whichever one is still going. thats just why il never finace a telly anymore, they are always always on sale

tom seen one for £7000. he got told to jog right on hahahahaha
