Pacific Rim (2013)

So, I'm just back from watching Pacific Rim in 3D and my first thought was... Wows. The CGI was just intense and full of fury. I enjoyed the obvious focus of the film-the large scale fist-fights. The plot-line was... recycled and quite boring. We all know how these films flow through, so I wasn't expecting much plot wise.

Nor was I expecting much acting wise, but I was somewhat proven wrong. I quite enjoyed the protagonist character. I felt- however- the extent of Idris Elba's acting was exaggerated. He didn't "dominate" the film like I had been previously informed and he played what was basically the recycled "General" character.

The design on the mechs was astonishing. I particularly loved the Russian Jaeger- even if it was the stereotypical "Everything is BIGGER in RUSSIA!" deal.

All in all, it won't win any awards for anything other than effects but if you're looking for a blockbuster, watch Pacific Rim.

Its a passable movie, but nowhere near amazing nor the best......the problem is sci fi movies are expanding to more psychological and this movie felt like pure action. I didn't feel like this movie was meant for everyone. It was meant for the action-crazed.

Im still trying to wrap my head around the f ing Kaiju and im still trying to wrap my head on why Jaegars are so complicated. All in all, the jaegars method took most of the theme of the movie.

idk...maybe i'm just growing tired of these macho guy movies and rather watch a realistic teen movie...I mean what was so damn awesome about this movie? It was good...but it just didn't feel like it was worth the $12....I would rather rent it.

I will see the sequel...but then again...k can already tell how the sequel will end. I hate movies that finish a battle but dont end the war or made a significant contribution to the point where the sequel has a different pace.

it felt to me like the whole idea behind drift technology in the jaegers was purely so that the guy who looked like christian slater, and the one from dark knight rises could do a drift with a kaiju and find out their plan. i also found the alternative to the jaeger project laughable. hiding from a 3000 tonne monster behind a wall hardly seems like a genius idea. i also found the link to the dinosaurs cringeworthy.

i don't see there being a sequel, since they closed the portal to the kaiju dimension, and blew them up along with it. i suppose the jaegers could get re-used for a different threat, but i just can't see a pacific rim 2.

Most likely the invasion can come from space this time. My ideal plot would have Godzilla from the 2014 film and Jaegers duking it out until the threat of the kaiju unleashing 2 category 5's and Monster X. that would be one hell of a fight.

I really enjoyed Pacific Rim, I thought it was one of the best pure action films I've seen in quite a while. My main critcism is that they clearly spent the vast majority of their budget on digital effects, and the acting was a little average from some characters. If they'd have invested a little more in one or two bigger named actors, the acting would have been a little better and it would have legitimized the film a little.

I have what's called a "Second time around test", which is fairly self explainatory, and I'm fairly sure Pacific Rim will fail it. Even if only for the fact that second time won't be in a large cinema with 3D. But as a cinema experience, with everything that comes with it, I thought it was excellent.
