Oz, The Great and Powerful

i think this looks really poor, pretty much just a rip off of the awful alice in wonderland by tim burton. you can see it in the look and the landscape of the film how it was influenced. it's a shame because i really like james franco, but this is going to be far from his best

I am SUPER excited for this film!
All I can say is, Disney, don't FUCK this one up! :ahmed:

Exactly. Disney cannot fuck this one up. This movie looks hella awesome. It's actually made me want to go to a movie theatre to see it, which is something very rare for me. I just love the overall feel and look of it. This movie has the potential to be epic. Meh... I'll have to read some reviews after it comes out.

I can't wait for this! It may be a bit sad, but I loved the old Wizard of Oz film (actually...both of them). I read the book not long ago too, which was interesting. Especially the land made of china, which really should have been in the film.
Anyways, I'll definitely be watching this one. Not in the cinema or anything, but y'know. So long as it...sorta sticks to the main story I'll be alright. Don't go completely off the plot please

EDIT: Ok, after actually watching the trailer, this isn't actually wizard of oz. Still, it looks decent enough. Will still watch.

I went and seen it opening night, Was very impressed. When they say that its the best 3D youll ever see they mean it. I never jump to 3D parts but I did a few times during this one. As for the story there are some times that you can call some stuff thats going to happen in the story but overall it was a very well put together film. Actors were amazing, plenty of happy/comedic parts and alot of "Oh god dont cry....dont cry...do...WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH" moments.

i was nicely surprised by it, it was quite a bit better than i was expecting. it's certainly not a great film that dazzles the audience, and the story is told in a very plot-point-to-plot-point fashion, but i still enjoyed watching it. i really liked michelle williams as the good witch and rachel weisz as the wicked one, i thought it was cast well and james franco was strong in it as well. it had it's dark moments that i think younger children would probably find scary, so it's probably for a slightly older audience rather than small children.
it also does a decent job at making a set for the wizard of oz story that we already know, but if the sequel ever does see the light of day (which i imagine will essentially be a remake of the original) then the ending will be completely ruined

the highlight of the film was definitely the moment of aspect ratio conversion when he reaches oz - that was absolutely seamless and those first few moments were very visually impressive after watching the old style black and white 4:3

I agree on the darker moments, the shreak that the baboons let out towards the beginning and the middle of the film was blood curdling.

I watched this yesterday and I wasn't disappointed by it. I didn't have many expectations for this film, so I kinda just took it for what it was. I also enjoy how it started off in black & white and transitioned into color as the protagonist traveled to the world of Oz. I think it's pretty interesting to connect this film with the original - it serves as a decent prequel and sheds some light into the origins of the "Wonderful Wizard of Oz."

I wouldn't necessarily say this is a "must see," but I suppose I would recommend this. I think that the cast did a wonderful job within their roles and the plot was easy enough to follow! :3
