I came across this adversary in Midgar's train graveyard...

It doesn't seem to be listed in the 1997 official strategy guide - either in the walkthrough (Ghost, Deenglow & Cripshay are there) or in the bestiary. Does anyone know the name of the critter?

It doesn't say when you select him? And no, I don't think I've ever seen that one before. You're not playing some pirated copy of the game or something where they included monsters not in the original copies? I have no idea...

That's Eligor. It is indeed in the 1997 strategy guide, not in bestiary however, but in the actual walkthrough.

"Beware of a creature named Eligor. You can steal a Striking Staff from it, which is Aeris' strongest weapon at this point in the game."

They seem to like missing things from the bestiary don't they :P

Yus I remember this, it always takes an age to steal the weapon off him, my last playthrough though, I couldn't get him to appear, dunno what his enc rate is but I got sick of running in circles and into ghosts -__-

I'm guessing he was just missed from the bestiary as a mistake, kinda like they tell you you get the Final Attack materia in the chocobo races when you clearly don't -__-

Idiots

I dont actually remember that monster at all, although it has been a while. At first glance i thought it was the monster from the temple of the ancients. But eligor it is i guess

I was about to say, "STEAL OFF HIM! START NOW! :P"

I dunno about the guidebook or anything, but I think recall from doing my perfect file that stealing from him is the only way to get Aeris' Striking Staff weapon.

This *completely* looks like a (Armo)Dullahan from VI and IX. Look at the images: Armodullahan from IX and Dullahan from VI. I have been trying to explain the similarities, but now I have also found something interesting. The Dullahan from VI is the less advanced, just a carriage. This one looks moderately advanced while the IX Armodullahan is the most evolved.

I have seen that thing before and yes you must steal from him to get a weapon but dammit, he's what we call a "Rare Game" [xDD FFXII language]
He's hard to run into but yeah I have n idea what he's called. e.e;;
He's not hard to defeat and such but he can be annoying when ever you're actually looking for the lil bastard xd

Strag guides fail. They ALWAYS miss stuff out. But yeah, name is Eligor and the encounter rate for him is considerably lower than the other monsters in the area. You can steal Aeriths Striking Staff from him, which will not be avalible to buy until you reach Gonganga so it's well worth the time to seek it out if you use her often.

Nice find Munin! Honestly, I’ve played through Final Fantasy VII hundreds of times and I’ve never come across this bizarre creature. However, considering the rarity of the creature it’s hardly unsurprising that the strategy guide missed it out. Anyway, kudos.

Ah yes, I missed the text - and Aeris' staff. Unfortunately I had a mammoth gaming session yesterday so I'm too far gone to go back. I'm actually in Coral Prison so Gongaga is only round the corner anyway. :)

Thanks for the info, guys.

Only ever remember seeing that thing once or twice, but I had no idea that I shoulda stole from him at that point in the game. I don't think I really stole anything from any enemy in FFVII.

But yeah, he is a familiar face even though only facing him a few times after all these years.

I remember him - I used to steal Striking Staff from him each time I started a new game.I liked stealing equips. :P

I remember it taking a while before I encountered him. And then it always seems to take ages before I succeed in stealing. Is there maybe anyway to improve that stealing thing?

Besides the Luck stat I doubt there is, but at that time, there is no Luck Materia or more than one Steal Materia...Its just pure luck and patience.

I remember encountering this monster on my last playthtough. He remembers me Dullahan from FFVI. He isn't too tough, and I remeber stealing the staff after some 50 tries. After that I never saw it again.

Out of all the times I've played this game I dont think I've ever encountered this monster. I'll have to get my PS2 and see if I can find him.

That monster is eligor he is in the guide but i only see him in the walkthrough.
