I want to give a lot of background to what I personally expected March event to do for me. Especially since everyone told me to wait for it. So my expectations were: Get rid of my negative feelings for Luna, gain new perspective on what kind of person Noctis is. Also warm up to redesigns.
Basically all the negatives of the previous trailers somehow be redacted by either giving me more or reinforcing what they have to expect less.
I got a little buts here and there.
I will start off with the positives: Noctis. If I'm going to buy this game. I might buy it because of his character. In this event we saw how much he was left in the dark even from his friends. Which made me question where their relationship was going. He's basically a sheltered prince who needs to grow up and be the person he needs for his country (at least what I got from the trailer).
And that's it. Thats all I can say I was genuinely interested in. Everything else was more of the same. I noticed some classic ff monsters that amused me but was expected. And of course I'm not enjoying Luna as a character. We already have so many "dignified" characters and once again I have yet to see a game changer for her. She feels like she's taking the princess and oracle route but doesn't do anything interesting. Idk why there are fans of her when we see virtually nothing or have even been shown a hint of what to expect that's good.
For Stella we we're giving hints that she would be recurring antagonist so with the idea of her being a friend to noctis or almost romantic, it was a nice game changer. But what is the game changer with Luna? I bet its that she's going to sacrifice herself, and if it's predictable it's not that great of an idea.
Florence and the Machine's cover of Stand by Me boy do in have an opinion about this and I really want to talk about that. I was not happy with it, but before you think I'm impossible to please, allow me to explain.
I personally thought the cover was "OK". I didn't think it was the best cover out there. And it sounded a little too reprises for my taste. However, this cover did something that probably wasn't intended to do. This cover was reminding me of Final Fantasy XIII's English ending song My Hands by Leona Lewis.
And you all know that final fantasy xiii gives me such a horrible distaste. i will forever hate this game with a passion. So as I'm being reminded of something related to ff13 I obviously could not enjoy it and I actually hate it. I know that's harsh. If you like it and doesn't remind you of ff13 then more power to you.
Now the ending with the car turning into a airship. This is the moment where I forgot all that I was amused, groaned and facepalmed. With more talk about the airship, I was contemplating what they we're going to do. And they went the cheap and easy route. This leaves so many questions. Of cars can turn into flying cars even at a later point in the game what was the point in making this game feel like a road trip!?
I think that's a bad way to add airships. It devalues the universe and just makes it look like total cop out.
Overall I don't hate the trailer. Its not the monstrosity that was DAWN trailer. But the hype was to reinforce those who already were excited. This event does nothing to get rid of the naysayers or those who have doubts. So let me talk about my revelation.
Now for the other media. I honestly could care less. I don't care for an anime based on the boy band. I don't care about the movie relating to Regis. So long as the game stands on it's own. Which I have a feeling it won't. I'm sure Se is trying to do the Meta way. Which confuses me more on what the original vision was and what the problem was.
I always had a distaste for new final fantasy ever since 13. And there we're times where I wanted to give up on the series and the company. They simply not taking the right risks or really care about the minority.
As an individual, my opinion means squat. To both the company and fellow fans. They all react the same way. Eother negatively or dont care. And the company just doesn't even care to respond my concerns.
I mean it's incredibly easy to change my opinion. It really is. If the company chose to take the route of PR that is obviously in their favor then they can clear doubts. But they don't and they won't.
For SE in this scenario it's really just allowing or asking Nomuras to share his honest opinion on ffxv. Heck, even if it's fake. As a content Creator you can tell when it's fake and when it's not just by how much they say and how specific they are.
for fellow fans is having a real discussion and not one you put on pause for a while then go back to it from the beginning. Its progressively going from beginning to end without rehashing the exact same info. Or really just a little acknowledgement.
I'm currently at a place in my life where I'm sick to death of fandoms. They ruin the experience and make you second guess your opinion. I can't enjoy undertake without fans getting in the way or FNAF.
I'm now excited for spiritual successors such as Mighty No.9 and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Those games look great and taking the best bits of the predessessor. I just wish there was a final fantasy spiritual successor. One almost as Meta but had control and more faithful to both fans and their content creators.
So this is my revelation. I don't feel like I belong anymore. I loved final fantasy but final fantasy was a game that I thought I understood and it understood me. But that is no longer the case.
