hey people,
why not have a MOTM(MemberOfTheMonth)
itll push people to stop being little flaming fu....little noobs
plus with people being able to get this it might keep/ brin a little more activity this way, like a morale kinda thing
what yall think

i think also as this week is birthweek it would be a good time to trial run it

We have infractions to stop people from flamming.
There's also the matter of how we decide who is member of the month, which will be difficult. It could cause all sorts of drama if people think they deserved to win etc.
I don't think it would work personally.
But it's a good idea nonetheless.
 
well thank you :).. and i know there is infractions, but it would cease the use of them to a extent i guess, plus if you ran a poll.. that would mean everyone could vote, and so the person who has been most helpfull, active, ect. or the admin/mods decide as to who has been most helpfull to them and does deserve it most i guess xD
 
Good idea, but it'll be hard to manage and decide who should be nominated for the voting.

Theres loads of users who come onto the forums, and lots of them are even regular users of the site that post a lot and talk in the SB a lot. So many members couldn't fit onto a single poll, so there would need to be several rounds, or nominations done similar to what has been done with Birthweek with people nominating in a seperate thread before the vote perhaps. That might take up quite a bit of time I'm guessing, unless the staff did it all themselves etc and picked who they believed deserved it.

Good idea though and it would be good to see it if something like this was implemented. At the moment most competitions and rewards and stuff are only given out to GFX artists, so it would be good to see something that the normal members could be recognised for too.

thats what i was thinking, and i guess it would probally be best to do a admin/Gmod decicion ? if itwas added
 
I agree. It would need several rounds or a thread lasting a week or so each month if members had to go through a nominating process.

A decision by the staff might work better perhaps, but still it'll probably be hard to decide etc. Not sure how it would work.
 
I guess it could work if the staff went through some sort of nomination process, then posted a thread for members to vote in, or something along those lines. It sounds like a pretty good idea though.
 
Hmmm i dont see it working. There are members on this forum who are very well known and others who arent, i could see member of the month going to the more popular members as oppose to the people who post a lot but arent well known.
I dont think it matters anyway, theres the birth week thing and that has fff queen, king etc. Id say thats good enough as you can nominate people for different categories etc. Good poster, funniest member etc.
 
While the idea of Member of the Month is, in theory, a really nice idea, and I agree that it would be nice to give some recognition to other non-GFXing members. However, I'm forced to agree with Lewis here. If it was a public vote, it would turn into one huge popularity contest, and like Hal said, if staff decide, it'll just cause controversy, and obviously we're biased too, so again, popularity contest comes into play x_x
 
how am ego trip, if i extpected it done, and expected to win. then yeah mabie, but no i dont expect to win, i do agree with lagunas, the fact that ot would be either Brittany, jv, argor.. and the same like 5-6 people every month, but thats why if we could come up with a good way of doing it, mabie not so much like that
 
Well yeah, it will be because only the people with the most friends will win it, and they'll all keep voting for each other because their bestest fwend in teh whole wide interweb voted for them last month.
 
well no, because yes the mods/admins have people they talk to more, but id expect that they would be able to get over who they are better friends with and nominate people over who where helpfull ect, not just nominate thre friends...

If so we'd feel obligated to nominate people who we aren't friends with, when the people we like may have been better members, which isn't something that can be judged or measured anyway.
Also I'd constantly nominate/vote for MLFY:wacky:
 
yeah, i know its a bad idea for the fact EVERYONE would nominate milfy, argor, jv, lew ect but i hoped as mods/admins would would be able to vote for who was most helpfull/active/posted the most guides/news/tutorials ect
and also i get you8r point jack, you dont like the idea, you already got hat across so you can stop posting with bad reasons ect now...
 
I don't think you should be laughed and and put down over this, as I think it was a good idea.

So I'm just going to say "thumbs up" for getting it out, as I don't agree that this should be taken negatively.

I don't think it would work though, like myself and everyone else has said, but perhaps if instead of calling for best member polls each month (which I agree would lead to a select few being voted all the time) we could instead call for some other kind of competition?
 
It's a brilliant idea, however, there aren't enough active members here, yes FFF is largish forum but you'll find that newer members don't often stay and a few posts or so, so you'll end up having a lot of the members winning the same things over and over again, in which, MOTM would have to be placed into categories and picked by the staff having seen it implemented elsewhere.
 
I don't think it would be all that difficult. I'd even be willing to undertake ownership of a trial run. Take May as an example.

-Members can be nominated at any point during the month, from 12:00 AM GMT on May 1 to 11:59 PM GMT on May 24. Nominations are encouraged to be accompanied by a synopsis of why that particular member is being nominated. That would ferret out some of the I R NOMNATUNG MEMBRA X FOR CUZ S/HE IS TEH LULZ!!ONE!!eleven!1!

-At 12:00 AM GMT on May 25, nominations are closed and a voting poll is opened. The voting thread is open to all, and the thread consists of short bios of why a particular member is being nominated. One vote per member, ties broken by total Admin/Staff votes. Voting is open until 11:59 PM GMT on May 31.

-On June 1 at some point, the winner would be announced with much fanfare. Champagne would fall from the heavens, velvet ropes would part, etc etc etc. Maybe one of our glorious GFX experts would be willing to throw together a sig/av set for the winner, and/or there would be an announcement on the forum and/or a notice on the SB and/or a +Rep boost and/or whatever else we can think of that would be appropriate. And/or a choice thereof.

Then the process starts all over from scratch. I would throw in a stipulation that a member cannot win more than once in a certain period of time, maybe 6 months, in order to spread the love around.

It may end up a popularity contest, sure. But A) How is that different from a lot of other things on this site? and B) Is that necessarily a bad thing?
 
Well the competition is a popularity contest by nature. Because unlike SoTW/AoTW the members are being judged as opposed to a piece of work they have produced. So it's pointless to say this is not a popularity contest. But I don't think this is really a bad thing.

It could potentially get some people to put more effort into their posts and boost activity. Plus it could help new members feel more welcome.

That's a good idea, it would certainly stop the same people from always winning. I also like your idea to include a reason why each person has been nominated.

Maybe if the top three members who receive the most votes all share the title of MotM. That way more people will experience how sweet it is to be loved by you. :monster:
 
well i thank you for your support :).. but without sounding egotystical, like to run it myself if the idea is passed, ill write up all the rules/guidelines incase
