Metal Gear Solid Thread

OVERALL id say mgs1 although snake eater comes in so close to second place, that game was amazing

I've never actually played any of the MSG games, but I did watch my brother play the first and second one through. (He had the controller while I solved the puzzles and guided him through - it has always been like that between us.)

I was more into the first game than the second one...I suppose it was more intense in a way. More interesting plots and storyline too. The second one was a quick game and didn't really capture me in a way that MSG1 did.

Now Snake Eater...haven't played or seen that one yet. I did look at ebay and was pleased with the prices there. So I'm really thinking of buying it. I know I'd wanna see MSG4 too (saw the trailer last night).

I thought MGS3 was the best ,the gameplay was amazing the script and story was deep and insightful.
Next was MGS1 which was good and had a message behind it of anti nuke
But the worst was MGS2 i couldnt stand raiden or most of the story just seemed an exact copy of mgs1 which it is, think back "S3 project".

I liked Metal Gear Solid 1 on the Playstation the best.
It's where the entire Metal Gear story started and really sticks out to me.
I've played the other Metal Gear games and Metal Gear Solid 1 is the most memorable.
I remember the Psycho Mantis Fight taking me a long time because I stayed in Controller Port 1, I remember Fighting Sniper Wolf 5 times until I finally beat her, I remember Cyborg Ninja being the coolest guy in the game and at the end when he tells you
He is Deepthroat
.

The Cast of Characters in MGS1 are amazing and I just didn't feel that in the other 2.

All of the MGS games are perfect and I wouldn't have them any other way, I just think 1 is the best.

Personally for me, it's the first game or Twin Snakes. The other two games were good, but I've always liked the first one.

Sons of Liberty, in my opinion. Despite Raiden, the game was oodles of fun (except the damn underwater sections) and had some fairly challenging bosses. Snake Eater is a fantastic game but there's just something about SoL that makes me like it better.

I liked MGS 3 best. it had everything. camoflage, even the fact of having to eat food was good but pissed me off at some boss fights. that was my favourite. the overall best was probably MGS2 without raiden

I'd have to say the first one, with this the orgional is where its at. Was great and the actual metla gear was challenging. Great story line and grioing characters, while with second dont get me wrong story line was ok and everything, but Raiden ruined it all. Third one was simply great and was nice to see how it all began.

Aww, give MGS2 some credit. Raiden sucks, yeah, but the game is still awesome. I hate sora but i dont let him ruin kingdom hearts for me. Actually i hate that stupid girl you have to save MUCH more than Raiden. I did like to tranq her and let the roaches crawl over her though. Ya know, when i think about it, it's reeeally hard for me to decide if i like 2 or 3 better.

In 2 you can enjoy:

Aiming a gun at a guy to make him shake off his dogtags and scare the crap outta him.

But in 3 you can enjoy:

Shooting a guy on the mountain, then watching the vultures come and pick at him.

It has to be MGS 1, it created a new genre fot the ps1, it was very innovative, and no matter what you played before, it was sure to suprise and amaze you, like those things mentioned above, the psycho mantis mind reading thing.....the codec was an ingenius idea, and little touches like the colonel actually telling you that Meryl's codec frequency was
on the back of the game case
were brilliant.

Hide Koijima, the creator of the game, managed to finally include a deep storyline in an action game whilst keeping it teeming with substance...

In second place would be MGS 2, which a lot of people didn't like somehow, Raiden was a fag, but oh well, MGS 3 in third, it could have been my second choice, but there were some gameplay issues, like shooting enemies and the camera......the jungle setting and story were excellent..

Oh yes VengefulRonin reminded me of the boss fight with The End, which in my opinion is the mother af all boss fights ever in all of the MGS games, he is a joy and a bastard to try and kill on extreme...

I never once fought him <.< I always snipe the old bastard at that dock right after the cutscene. Just shoot through the guy pushing the wheelchair before they can go inside, then shoot at The End a few times and
KABOOM he explodes. Then his wheelchair goes flying at you like a homing missile and crashes into you. No damage is done but it's funny as hell.

MSG3 had better bosses for the most part, like Ocelot, that bee guy, and the pyromaniac dude. But 2 had that fat guy on rollerblades, and probably the coolest ending bosses ever. Sure, in 3 you fight the tank Metal Gear, but in 2 you actually get to fight like 5 Metal Gears on foot. That just owns.

I would have to say that MGS3 was my favourite as I liked the idea of killing and eating animals to keep your strength up. And the camo was done great......not as stealthy as the stealth suit, but not as cheap as the stealth suit either. :D My second favourite was Twin Snakes as it remade MGS1 using the extra abilities from MGS2. Sure some cut scenes were a little TOO dramatic but so what...it's a video game. My least favourite was MGS2.....I was expecting to play as Snake and ended with Raiden. He's not that bad a character but when the demos/trailers were first shown, there was NO indication that Snake wasn't the primary character.....very deceitful of Konami. I still like all of them but that's my prefered order. From what I've seen of MGS4, it'll be the best.

MGS1 (PS) overall is the best MGS game, the story, pace, music and characters were almost perfect and I can still enjoy playing it today. The later titles despite the better and more refined gameplay became too silly for their own good and really was one of those style over substance situations especially with MGS2 + Twin Snakes. MGS3 was good but the new characters were really not as interesting as those from earlier games and the constant camo switching really hampered my enjoyment of the game as well.

First time I played MGS1 I had the Jap version and couldnt beat Psycho Mantis, my friend did though without changing controllers.

Let's merge this, shall we? xD

-Merged-

Anyway, I'll have to say the first MGS. It has always been my favorite. I haven't exactly played the 2nd or 3rd one, but I've seen other people play it. They're still good, but not the best.

EDIT: And whaddya know, I've already posted previously.

I haven’t played them all, but out of the three that I’ve played, Metal Gear Solid would be the best thus far. I’m actually in the process of getting the others to complete my collection.

I found the Metal Gear Solid franchise really hard to get into but last week I decided to play through The Twin Snakes and completed it on Tuesday, which I thought the game was amazing. Although I haven't played through Metal Gear Solid 2, I have watched my brother play through the whole thing so I am aware of how that goes and have yet to play Metal Gear Solid 3. After playing through Metal Gear Solid and seeing trailers, info on Metal Gear Solid 4 I do feel myself being drawn to the franchise as it definitely has one of the most interesting plots. I'll probably give MGS2 a go after I have beat God of War or Okami.
