Metal Gear Solid Thread

I'd say play through it again for two reasons. Because you have a new item you can use the second time through (bandanna). Also, because the ending where Meryl dies is my favorite ending to anything ever. Simply amazing.

OK, I cheated, I youtubed Otacon's ending. I prefered this ending, but it also made me appreciate the Meryl ending just aswell. I like having the option to switch between the two. Plus, it seems as if Snake/Otacon form a closer relationship over the next games, so the Otacon ending sets that up better.

But when Otacon was talking about him and Wolf's love I couldn't help but lol a little bit. I mean, jeez Otacon, stop kidding youself, she was way outta your league! :monster: Just kidding, of course.

Either way, I think I'm gonna go ahead and play this game again. I want that stealth camoflauge :monster:

What a beautiful sight lol.

Finished MGS4 a couple of weeks ago, safe to say it wrapped everything up perfectly.

This series is definately my favourite gaming story, from MGS - GotP.

I am a huge fan of the MGS series. My favorite MGS games have to be tied between the first one (I like the Gamecube version better) and the second one for the PS2. I think they are great games, and they have given me a lot of entertainment. I also created a thread, you guys can check it out if you wish, about the new MGS movie that is supposed to be coming out soon. I may discuss the game a little more later when I have more time.

Konami: Metal Gear Solid remake may happen

metalgearsolid.png

In an interview with Eurogamer, Kojima Production’s creative producer Yoshikazu Matsuhana has said that a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid may happen at some point.

It was further revealed that MGS was not included in the HD collection because it had ‘little meaning’ due to being technologically dated.

“While at the time the game was something new and refreshing, just bringing it as is into HD probably wouldn’t have that much meaning to us. We’re doing two and three with a certain work flow where the goal is to take that game, preserve it and introduce it to a new generation. We can’t really take that approach with Metal Gear Solid 1 because it’s very dated at this point.”

However, the chances of a remake seem to be likely:

“If we were going to do Metal Gear Solid 1 we’d want to take more time with it. Not just up-res the textures, not just make things look pretty and polished, but go back and tweak some of the gameplay, tweak the story to update things and do it properly. Not just a re-master but a re-imagining almost.

“We do want to do that sometime down the road but it will take more time. It’s not something we’re looking at doing right now.”

In 2004 a remake of Metal Gear Solid was released exclusively on the Nintendo Gamecube. It was developed by Silicon Knights, and brought the original up-to-date by implement gameplay features from MGS2. However, the game was criticised by critics and gamers alike for being too easy and persistent frame-rate problems.

COOL...

And I didn't vote because I wanted to vote for Peace Walker. This thread was made in 2007, so I guess I cannot. I like the series for it's epic story line, and movie-like cutscenes. The thing about this series is that I can actually imagine it as a movie!

Though wanting a movie of Metal Gear Solid is another thing altogether. As far as I know, most game to movie attempts have been quite bad.

E3 2011: Expect Metal Gear Solid Games on Nintendo Platform, New MGS Game?

In a behind closed door interview between several press members, including us, and Kojima Productions’ Yoshikazu Matsuhana, he revealed that the company wants to start bringing Metal Gear Solid games onto the Nintendo platform starting with Snake Eater on the Nintendo 3DS.

For over a decade, Nintendo has been focusing on casual gamers therefore owners of a Nintendo product often sees hardcore mature title like Metal Gear Solid, and Grand Theft Auto. The last Metal Gear game that Nintendo fans saw was Silicon Knights’ Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes in which Kojima Productions didn’t make but approved the licensing to Silicon Knights. the Twin Snakes release was somewhat successful but the demand for it was not enough to warrant another Metal Gear Solid game on a Nintendo platform at the time.

With the release of the Nintendo 3DS and the upcoming Nintendo Wii-U late next year, Yoshikazu Matsuhana confirmed that Nintendo has been asking the Kojima Productions to bring their Metal Gear Solid games over to the Nintendo platforms, even it’s just a port or a remake. To start the deal between Kojima Productions and Nintendo, Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater will be the first game to hit the Nintendo platforms following the release of Twin Snakes. When asked why Snake Eater instead of Metal Gear Solid 1 or 2, Matsuhana stated that Snake Eater is like the entry title to the Metal Gear Solid lore.

Another question that came up in our press interviews with Matsuhana is why Snake Eater on the 3DS and not Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2. The simple answer he offered was that Snake Eater’s environments can fully show what the Nintendo 3DS can do. Since the place where Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 unfolds is inside an enclosed space, the company thinks those two games will not be a good idea as it won’t show what the Nintendo 3DS can do. It’s always better to show the power of 3D when different colors and environments are shown on the screen.

Should we see the next Metal Gear Solid game on the Nintendo Wii-U? Most likely!

Talking about the new Metal Gear Solid game, it is coming but they’re still on the planning stage. Matsuhana mentioned that the next Metal Gear Solid games might have new main characters. From the way he talking about it, it could be a couple of years from now before we hear anything about it.

Don’t be surprised if the next Metal Gear Solid game will be on the Nintendo-U or no longer a PS3 exclusive.

Kojipro wants to remake Metal Gear Solid

Bad news: The Metal Gear Solid HD collection won’t include the first entry in the series.

Good news: That’s because Kojipro hopes to do a full and proper remake.

20110614mgs.jpg

“Obviously, we wanted to include [Metal Gear Solid] and make it a complete collection,” Kojipro creative producer Yoshikazu Matsuhana told Eurogamer.

“However, as you know, Metal Gear Solid 1 was for the PSone. It has a very, very low polygon count. While at the time the game was something new and refreshing, just bringing it as is into HD probably wouldn’t have that much meaning to us.

“We’re doing two and three with a certain work flow where the goal is to take that game, preserve it and introduce it to a new generation. We can’t really take that approach with Metal Gear Solid 1 because it’s very dated at this point.”

While commenting that the studio has not made a definite plan, Matsuhana said Kojipro wants to do a proper remake.
“If we were going to do Metal Gear Solid 1 we’d want to take more time with it. Not just up-res the textures, not just make things look pretty and polished, but go back and tweak some of the gameplay, tweak the story to update things and do it properly. Not just a re-master but a re-imagining almost.”

As has been repeatedly pointed out, Kojipro seems to have forgotten about its Twin Snakes Gamecube remake, which while not gloriously beautiful, is pretty enough compared to the original PSOne game.
Metal Gear Solid was one of the PSOne’s most innovative and technically impressive games, and many gamer’s first taste of the Metal Gear franchise. Its lineage includes MGS2: Sons of Liberty, MGS3: Snake Eater, and MGS4: Guns of the Patriots, as well as spin-offs Acid, Peace Walker and Portable Ops.

Thanks, games.on.net.

The Japanese release date came from a video series from Sony announcing new titles for the system this morning.

The Vita version of the pack, which came to consoles in Europe last month, will feature Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Peace Walker won’t be included in the handheld collection compared to its console counterparts.

“The PlayStation Vita system will provide fans with an exciting new way to enjoy the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection,” said Konami European GM Martin Schneider.

“We’re confident that users will be pleased with the new innovations Kojima Productions have implemented with the new PlayStation Vita iterations, offering a truly unique experience for this exciting new format.”

MGS HD Vita will come with touch-screen and touchpad controls, Konami confirmed.

MGS creator Hideo Kojima has teased pictures of the Vita version running before, but never shown any footage of it until now. You can get that below, as well as an interview with the man himself on it, plus more on Transfarring.

Update

Texan developer behind MGS HD Collection Vita

Konami has brought Armature Studio onboard the Vita version of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.

Siliconera noted Armature on the port’s website.

The Vita port of the Metal Gear Solid Collection will be the developer’s first major release, a collaboration with the Collection’s original developers, BluePoint Games.

Armature Studio was founded in 2008 by Mark Pacini, Todd Keller and Jack Mathews. All three had held senior roles at Retro Studios, the western developer which has become a Nintendo favourite with the Metroid Prime trilogy, Donkey Kong Returns, and Mario Kart 7.

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is expected on Vita in northern summer.

Metal Gear HD Collection for Vita to hit UK in late June

Konami’s UK arm has announced that the PlayStation Vita version of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection will release .

20120312mgshd.jpg

The HD Collection released back in February this year for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but in going portable, will bring along Kojima Productions’ Transfarring system which’ll allow players to share data between the handheld and PlayStation 3.

It’ll also add a rebalanced user interface, but doesn’t include PSP title Peace Walker which was bundled with the home console release of the game. but it’ll come with Metal Gear 1 and Metal Gear 2 alongside modified versions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Thanks, Eurogamer.
