Metal Gear Solid Thread

the aiming system is probably one of the best i've experienced. i didn't even need to turn the auto-aiming on. 4 years dev work pays off you know...

I've now beat it six times...one bad thing I noticed though...is that it is one of the shortest MGS games. I last beat it in 2 hours 37mins and thats while trying to be perfect, no alert, no kills, and such. I feel I can get it in less then 2 if tried.

Also,

I feel that those that spoiled the game for themselves before hand...really wont respect the game as much as possible. There are two endings...one where you feel Snake died, then during the credits when you realize he didn't. If you spoiled it for yourself and knew that he didn't die and that whole Big Boss part then the first ending will not land half as much effect. I mean, I'll admit I cried when Sunny was asking Otacon about Snake and he started crying...Was the greatest scene ever.

2 and a half hours!? I don't like judging games by their length (God of War and Fable are short, yet rank as some of my favorite games), but 2.5 hours of game time is hardly worth the money.

Casually playing through the game would probably take 4-5 hours. I'm sure the game offers a great overall experience, but you'd think we'd get more play time considering how long the game was in development for.

Well that was a speed run, skipping cut scenes and such. The scenes themselves add up to over 9 hours in this game. First play through took 15 hours for me.
There are MANY things to do in this game though, the 2 and a half hours was me just going from point A to B, straight forward skipping everyone and everything.
To show the length and size of the game. I'm going through now, exploring each corner now that I have stealth camo so I can sneak past people and explore without getting caught. I am now at 36 hours. So that just goes to show how large the game truly is.

So you can choose to make your game long, or short? That pretty cool. Is there any box conversations with Otacon?

you mean codec conversations? no, there are hardly any. and you only have 2 contacts through out the game.

Well I meant a Codec call to Otacon whilst inside a box. But never mind.

What do the Guards say when they spot you in a box?

Hmm...I'll have to try and get back to ya on that. Never been caught. Cool thing is you can use box and drums as well.
I was disappointed with the codec limitations. Normally you get a lot of info and funny situations with em.

Ah, I was looking forward to the Codec Calls. Especially after MGS3 brought the best of them all - Sigint Box Conversation.

I have watched the guy who posted the entire game on Youtube. And I must say, it does have a marvelous soundtrack.

some one posted the entire game on youtube, could you give a link to that, and was he stealthy at all ?

Just type in ''MGS4 Entire game'' on Youtube. And no he wasn't stealthy at all considering it was his first play through. Still though, he was pretty poor at it.

has any one got the MGS database? it came out today in Europe's PSN. what are your thoughts?

Since I'm from the US I got it a while back...don't really believe everything you read in it though. There are MANY mistakes in it. They released it to fast or it seems like people that hadn't even played the game wrote it. It needs time to be fixed.

Im currently playing MGS1 and at boss phsyco mantis. I looked up how to beat him on a walkthrough but it said im gana need 2 controllers.. and all I have is one. Does that mean I have to go buy another controler to kill him? XD or is there another way?

All you have to do is plug your controller into the second port and he can't read your mind. You don't really NEED to do that though. He can beat regardless, plugging your controller in the other port just makes it easier.
Just throw on your thermal goggles and you can see him, the fight will go down with ease.

I'd have to say my favourite Metal Gear Solid game would be MGS3, it has a good story to it, the younger Revolver Ocelot character is cool, and it's got some good music, not unlike the other games.

I particularly like that Battle in the Base song, used it in the first stage I ever made in SSBB. :P
