Metal Gear Solid Thread

I finished the first disk on mgs1 and tried to load the 2nd disk but my ps2 would not read it. Its brand new, just bought it 3-4 weeks ago, no scrathes at all. So could it be a faulty disk or would my ps2 be to blam?

I went to gamestop with this problem and they told me they would let me trade it in for another brand new mgs1 game but when i got home to try it out, disk #1 had problems running. So wat now ... ? =( anyone else have problems with this?

btw all my other games have no problems including mgs 2 and 3

It seems like the MGS1 game has problems on the other systems from time to time. I own 4 versions of MGS1 just so I can swap disk when it says one isn't working.
If you get the essential collection it should work better.

I finally got the 2nd disc to work and was determined to beat the game before I took it out but now im stuck at the very end
when you hitch a ride with meryl gunning down soldiers in the back. The real problem is damn liquid, I can avoid his gun fire to a certain point till he gets to the right side of the humvey, i have problems aiming then.
I gave it about 10-15 trys at least till I just gave up. Hopefully Ill get lucky later tonight >_<

I have been a fan of the series since MGS on the PSX. I did play the NES Metal Gear but never really got into it.

As far as my favorite goes, I love them all but I think MGS3 is the best overall. MGS4 is a monumental game and I loved every second of it, but once I got over the incredible graphics, I found it to be far less challenging and intriguing to play than 3 and in terms of game play, I felt that it did not bring much that was new as 3 did. 4 also lacked when it comes to the use of the codec, unlike the previous installments where you could communicate with a good number of characters via codec, this was left out in 4 and you were left with only two contacts for no discernible reason. 3 also had a much better balance between cutscenes and actual gameplay. Good as they were, most cutscenes in 4 simply dragged on for too long (I know you can skip them).

They are all great games and the franchise is among my favorites.

Your less then 30 seconds from the end of the game by the time you get there. :( I'm sorry, I wish I could give advice on that scene, personally I thought the whole thing at the end was rigged so that you couldn't lose. Only thing I can say is keep plugging at it, as long as you get used to aiming the weapon, and keep it on him, he can't shoot back.

Personally I don't care to much for the ending your about to watch. Its the canon ending, but I prefer the Otacon one 100x more. I'm sure you can find that on youtube or something instead of playing through the game again though.

Still worth playing through again to get the other ending for the unlocks you get after completion.

True, the stealth is very fun to mess around with. I've beaten MGS1 more then any other game I've played, I'm at 87 times. I can honestly quote the entire game word by word. By far my favorite of the series, followed by part 3 then 4 then 2.

I got into the Metal Gear series ever since a friend showed me the PC version of MGS which I couldn't get to finish due to the game freezing every time I got to Psycho Mantis (and for some reason, there were no videos...). A couple of years later I replayed the game, this time the psx version and totally fell in love with it! I rushed to get my hands on MGS2 and it was awesome! I then managed to get a PS3 on the very same day MGS4 got out (bought them separately since there was no MG bundle in Europe I think...or at least didn't see one =P) and totally loved the game.

Right now I'm playing MGS3 and I'm loving it so far. Everything looks really good (for a PS2) and the story looks promising. The only thing I hate is the camera! She's a b#$%!!!

The subsistance version of MGS3 is a dream. The camera problem is fixed and better then ever. It truly changes the game into one of the best ever.
I agree that the original MGS3 camera sucked though. But after they fixed it, I went back and played it over and over. Plus you get MG1 and MG2 with it as well.

Yeah, I have more use for the stealth than the bandanna because I hardly use any ammo anyways (unless I'm in a Gung Ho mood)

I've probably finished MGS3 the most, I love the story of that game, and the CQC is pretty fun to play around with. Soon as I get a PS3 MGS4 is the first game to come with it, absolutely love the MGS series.

The story is awesome, loved the cutscenes and the emotion in them. The camera isn't too bad, probably having a bit of trouble adjusting to it because there's no radar (so you're limited to your line of sight, and motion dectors etc) you can pan it around slightly with the right stick and lock it into place with R3.

You'll love how the story progresses throughout the game, and the ending is just awesome. :D

I will have to say MGS2 would have to be my favorite. It introduced me metal gear basically. MGS4 totally owns all of the ones made, but next in line would have to be MGS2.

I have another question.

im playing mgs2 right now and im going through the snake tales missions, im on the first one where your trying to rescue rose. I cant find the bomb =( ive been to every floor level and totally recked havok in the computer room but still no bomb or anything that resembled one. Help! =p

Ahhh Substance....reminds me of that 'Giant Guard' battle.
Anyway, the bomb is located in the middle of the computer room underneath the computers. You can hear the beeping anyway.

It was my father that introduced me to the Metal Gear series. I was around 5 at the time of my first MGS related memory, and my dad played the game nearly everyday I can remember after that. In one our home movies, he's playing MGS1 in the background while his little girl sings "...if you get married and have two twins, don't come to me for diaper pins! "

After a little while, I'd say when I was 6 1/2 - 7, my mom told him to stop letting me watch him play it because of the violence. I loved the sound the soldiers made when he broke their necks. "Uh, uh, uh, ooh!" and the little bleep when they dropped an item box :)

My Dad always used to do risky things that freaked me out, like sticking Snake's head around the corner while a dude was coming, "Daddy! He's gunna see yooou! Get back behind the waaaall!", or sniping off targets in the warehouse with the chemical gas release if an alert occurs. Then there was Vulcan Raven (the second time). He put claymore everywhere and then kept running into them instead of letting Raven hit them "DAD!!! You're gunna die!! Stop it!" He always laughed because even though he did those things, he was so good at the game, he just fixed them right back up, and I kind of knew it at the time :P

I started playing the game myself at around 9, but I was little and the sound of the alarm going off when they spotted you scared me so much, I just let my Dad take over whenever it happened (which was often :P ) Eventually, I was able to go through it myself (at 11-12) and then I started getting attached to MGS2 (we rented it, not bought :P ) I liked it a lot because I found it profoundly easier than MGS1.

When MGS3 came out, it blew my mind! I loved the amazing graphics and the in-depth storyline. I like the guns most though - they were older models and reminded of a World War Two series called Metal of Honour. What I liked most about 3 was the tackiness of the stealth system XD It failed everytime you bumped into someone and I couldn't stop laughing! :)

So MGS was my first REAL video game. No wonder I'm a Type A personality XD

I really like all the MGS games but the Acid series didn't appeal much so I never played them. MGS2 would have to be my favorite of the three because of the story and general gameplay aspects. However I like MGS3 almost just as much because of it's bosses and camouflage integration so it's right up there too. I did also acquire the stealth camo guy 2 posts above me it isn't that hard. All in all it's on of my favorite game series of all time.

mgs twin snakes...omg i love it.. in fact i love mgs1 FACT.
althought 3 or 4 is close behind..3 has a wikid story line..although i hate seeing naked snake getting his ass kicked by
the boss so many times..embarrasing.

MGS1 and MGS2 are easily my favorites in the series. MGS3 and MGS4 are very good too, but I prefer the games which are mostly based indoors. I'm not so crazy about camouflage, I prefer just staying out of my enemies sights, the outdoor areas found in MGS3 and MGS4 are far too open for my liking.

As far as characters go, nothing beats the classic Foxhound bunch, i.e Liquid Snake, Vulcan Raven ect.. Dead cell (and co.) in MGS2 were pretty interesting though. The Cobra unit were pretty interesting but wern't on the same level as Dead Cell and Foxhound. The B&B Corps just didn't work as well for me, I think this is due to the fact that they had little participation in the story besides just showing up and owning everyone.

I just started playing MGS for the PS... and ZOMG! Psycho Mantis totally creeped into my memory card. I feel kind of... violated

but in all seriousness, I think this game has some of the most amuzing little easter eggs than any game I've played. These little nuances totally make the game for me. Right now, I'm completely hooked. Amazing, amazing game. I can't believe I haven't had the chance to play it until just recently!

Indeed, it is amazing. Especially when that stuff happened back in the 90s before most games added Easter eggs like that. I love the PS version so much more then the GC. Good choice to play that one.

I'm a decade late, but I've beaten Metal Gear Solid for the first time! :monster:

but, now I'm in a dilemma...

The cryptic message at the end with Ocelot/Solidus makes me want to continue onto MGS2 and 3... but I also want to see the ending where you don't save Meryl (I got the Meryl lives ending, I found it a little sappy). So I'm wondering whether I should continue onto the next games or if I should replay MGS with the cool stuff I got from my first playthrough. I'm considering the second option because the game is pretty short, and I did pretty bad during my first run.
