Nintendo 3DS Launches With Two Colors In North America

Just like Japan, Nintendo will release two Nintendo 3DS colors at launch. We’re getting Aqua Blue and Cosmos Black systems.

Nintendo also announced the 3DS will be bundled with a 2GB SD card in North America.

Nintendo 3DS Will Have Over 30 Games During Its "Launch Window," RPGs Included

Between the launch date of the Nintendo 3DS and E3 in June, Reggie Fils-Aime said the Nintendo 3DS will have over 30 games in stores. Genres will range from action, shooter, fighting, racing, family, and RPG. Yes, Reggie said RPG.

Nintendo 3DS Has Friend Codes, But Only One Friend Code

Confirming what Famitsu prematurely revealed in their Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition article, the Nintendo 3DS does have friend codes. However, you won’t have to register separate friend codes for each game.

There’s a master system friend code and you only need to share that with a buddy. If you communicate with another Nintendo 3DS system locally, that friend code exchange is instantaneous.

Nintendo 3DS Will Have A Web Browser, You Just Have To Download It

At a later date, Nintendo will release a downloadable web browser on the Nintendo e-shop. Details about the software were not announced, but in the past Nintendo worked with Opera for the Wii, Nintendo DS, and DSi browsers.

The Nintendo eShop is a revised version of the Nintendo Store. You can scroll through a list of new releases and best selling games. The e-shop also has a list of topics such as "Donkey Kong" or "Mario" with individual lists of titles. You can purchase downloadable games on the Nintendo e-shop, including Virtual Console titles. Super Mario Land, a launch title for the original Game Boy, was demoed. Game Boy Color titles will also be available on Virtual Console.

Similar to the Nintendo Channel, the Nintendo e-shop has streaming videos of games, which will be shown in 3D on the handheld.

Europe Gets Nintendo 3DS A Few Days Before North America [Update]

If you’re in Europe, you can pick up a Nintendo 3DS on March 25, two days before the handheld launches in North America. How much does it cost? You’ll have to check your local retailer because Nintendo of Europe didn’t announce a price.

This is probably a good time to mention, during Nintendo of America’s conference focus groups that used the Nintendo 3DS deemed the handheld’s price to be worth $300-$400 (yikes!). The Nintendo 3DS will retail for $249.99 in North America.

Update: Nintendo of Europe said to check local retailer for the price, so we did. UK retailer Game lists the price of the Nintendo 3DS as £229.99 ($368). Play is a tad less at £219.99 ($352).

This is probably my last post about Nintendo 3DS news, I was never going to buy one anyway, but with this price I will definitely not buy it..wtf so expensive..imagine how much the psp2 will cost

Is there any particular reason we're paying over $100 more than the U.S? I refuse to believe that the VAT difference would make that much of an impact - as a matter of fact, it shouldn't have an impact at all.

You know what, FUCK YOU, Nintendo. Europe is always getting the short end of the stick, both with prices and releases, and I've just about had it. Have you even BOTHERED to look at the state our economy is in? That is a ridiculous price for the a half-arsed, gimmicky and barely innovative sequel to an amazing console. That is the worst display of money grubbing I have ever seen - worse even than the PS3's first price. I am not impressed at all, and I will definetely not be buying it on launch day. I may pick it up at a later date - assuming I take leave of my senses, and/or Tales of the Abyss actually gets released here, which I doubt - but, at that price, I might as well hang a rope around my neck. Nobody in their right mind would even consider buying that - and of course, so many will, because it's Nintendo, and the DS was such a huge hit. But without the success of the DS, that would sell about as well as the Dreamcast did. That price is OUTRAGEOUS.

As a matter of fact, if it isn't region locked (which it probably is, because Nintendo are fucktards with that as well) I may import it if I ever decide to buy it. Fuck off am I paying $100 more than people in the U.S. Like fucking hell. Why should I?

...and I was going to comment on the games, but I won't bother. It is going to take a hell of a lot of games at a quality above and beyond what Nintendo have been producing recently to justify that price. I have seen ONE game - Tales of the Abyss - that even comes close, and it'd be cheaper to import a copy and chip my PS2.

We kind of expected that the price-tag would be brutal to be honest. But still, that is a very intimidating price for a handheld that I would refuse to fork out for this early on as well. It's pretty much dead cert that given time, the 3DS's price will come down, perhaps even with newer incarnations of the console itself. With no launch games that I actually want, and with few games that actually interest me, I can't see myself purchasing a 3DS for a while. With the DS still particularly dominating in sales and with a much friendlier price-tag than its successor, few would actually be in a hurry to get the 3DS early on. With those points in mind, I see no real reason to be too fussed about it. The price will fall eventually.

I was tempted to get the N3DS at some point but not anymore, the PSPGo is a similar price and it's exactly the same reason I would never get one of them either. £230 is ridiculous for a handheld console, I could get a new PS3 for £20 more. nothnx.

...anyway. I'm not too bothered by it. But my DS is only 3 or 4 years old and still works perfectly fine. Once it drops down in price I may pick it up at a later date, but it's got the same concept as the Wii with the downloading of old games so that's definitely got me hooked.

Yes, because (according to the article), over 100 GBP/USD in difference is the "same price tag" isn't it? The UK price tag is just utterly ridiculous in comparison. It honestly made me laugh when one of Nintendo's representatives was on about affordability in one of the other articles I came across in a newspaper. Like I said before, the price will go down, but I simply sigh at just how we're treated by multi-national companies. No one I know of with a rational mind will purchase a handheld for a price like this, especially when it would be much cheaper across the ocean - except that region locks will put a stop to a lot of the importing.

No, seriously, the price is a little much for a handheld that can only run for five hours at launch. Once they drop the price and improve on the battery life, as well as release the games worth buying, then consideration will begin. It just seems too unattractive right now.
