Multiple Platforms Mass Effect 3

I second Big Casino's post.

SPOILERS AHEAD.

I don't really know how long I took. Probably about 20-30 hours or so. My normal gaming speed appears to be fairly fast, I suppose, even on Normal Mode. The developers previously mentioned that Normal Mode is pretty much Hard Mode in ME2. I agree. Combat was slightly more challenging. I appreciate the new controls too. Being able to roll about is damn useful. It also helps that I do not have to duck behind cover before being able to climb over it. That helped sped things up a lot.

Now, on to story. I started the game with really huge expectations. For the most part, the game didn't disappoint. I liked that certain paths you choose can lead to really different outcomes. For instance, when disseminating the genophage cure, there are the Paragon path and the Renegade path. In the Paragon path, you reveal the Dalatrass' treachery and pretty much allow Mordin to go ahead to fix the STG's failsafe and cure the Krogan.

On the contrary, the Renegade path sees Shepard hiding the truth, and then coming down to kill Mordin. I was really shocked by that outcome, really. In the end, Mordin would fail to reach the console in time to fix the failsafe. The cure would be disseminated, but it wouldn't fix the infertility in Krogans. In fact, it leads on to a much more interesting scene later when the leading Krogan (either Wrex or his brother Wreav) confronts Shepard. I kinda liked that scene since it made up for my sparing him in Mass Effect 1.

Another instance would be the Quarian's war with the Geth. After defeating the Reaper, I decided to try a Renegade dialogue option to speak with the Reaper. In case you're curious, the Paragon option makes peace with the Reaper who's just being an asshole then settles the dispute between Quarians and Geth leading to peace between the two races. BUT. The Renegade option was totally different. On allowing Legion to upload the Reaper upgrade codes, the Quarians continue their bombardment of the Geth fleets. The latter retaliates, and Shepard has no chance to stop them unlike in the Paragon route.

Ultimately, the Quarians were completely wiped out. Their main ship, the Rayya falls and Tali commits suicide. Shepard will either ignore, or if you mouse click the Paragon response, Shepard will try to save Tali, but still fail anyway. After that, the Geth pledges their allegiance, but the Quarians go extinct.

All these events made the game extremely exciting. In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed all these missions to gain the assistance from the various races.

However. The ending was an absolute disappointment. In my first try, I wasn't aware of the War Assets issue. I had only about 2700 in effective military strength. I didn't bother with Multiplayer, so that's probably the main reason here. I ended up going up the Crucible, seeing that asshole of a Catalyst and realizing that Shepard dies no matter what option I choose.

Hell. Later I tried to improve my war assets score. I got about 3000, and got to see the Synthesis ending. Wow. Shepard's still dead. Thanks. Everyone becomes a synthetic though. Almost reminds me of Casshern Sins. Great.

Then I cheated and managed to get over 5000 in war assets. Apparently, that's what you need to have to get the "Perfect Ending". Perfect my ass. Tsk. I was totally pissed off when I got to that point. Virtually everything was the same, except for a last minute of showing implying that Shepard was alive.

The ending was totally disappointing. Totally. As a matter of fact, what I was hoping to see was something along the lines of Chrono Trigger, where there were many more endings. Maybe some that would be humorous? I don't mind having an ending where I see all the developers huddled in some secret location. Well, I realize that's unrealistic, considering the quality of this game. Still.

Sigh. Gameplay and plot progression was good. But the ending was shit. In both ME1 and ME2 for me, almost everything was good - excepting some minor stuff like the planetary scanning in ME2. Hell, their endings were fine. ME3 totally ruined that.

I'm hoping there would be some kind of DLC to offer more endings and stuff. But who knows. Developers may end up being more interested in offering more Multiplayer characters and maps and stuff. Sigh.

Players have reported that as well as items, classes and various unlocks that came as part of the multiplayer’s reward system.

Community coordinator Chris Priestly has said the company is looking into it, adding that players can avoid losing unlocks by not visiting the store whilst ready for a match and not accepting invites to matches while in the store.

More details here. It was reported overnight new multiplay content was on the way.

Update

BioWare director stands by Mass Effect 3 ending, promises single-player DLC

BioWare’s Casey Hudson stands by the “polarizing” ending of Mass Effect 3, which has been the focus of furious fan criticism.

20120314me3_reaper.jpg

In an interview with Digital Trends, the director said he planned for Mass Effect 3′s ending to be somewhat controversial.

“I didn’t want the game to be forgettable, and even right down to the sort of polarizing reaction that the ends have had with people–debating what the endings mean and what’s going to happen next, and what situation are the characters left in,” he said.

“That to me is part of what’s exciting about this story. There has always been a little bit of mystery there and a little bit of interpretation, and it’s a story that people can talk about after the fact.”

People are certainly talking about the ending; some are so distressed by it that they have launched a surprisingly hefty campaign to get it changed. Despite that, Hudson stuck to his guns, saying what he’s “most proud of” is that the story “will be remembered”, and added that BioWare pays “very close attention” to fan feedback.

“It’s very important to us and we will always listen to feedback, interpret it and try and do the right thing by our fans. That’s why if you look at Mass Effect 2 we knew that people wanted to spend more time with a character like Liara, and so we created an ongoing storyline with her as part of the comics and then built it into the DLC stuff, and we’re always listening to fans,” he said.

“We have some really great multiplayer content and some really great single-player content coming over the air, and their feedback will become part of how we design that.”

Hudson gave another concrete example of how feedback has shaped the series – the inclusion of Tali and Garrus as love interests.

“From the outset, we didn’t envision them as characters that people would want to have a romance with,” he said.

“And yet they were successful as characters, and so popular amongst a lot of people that people really wanted to develop a relationship with them, so we integrated that from Mass Effect 2 and it’s become a big part of the series.”

Thanks, GameFront.

SPOILER SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

I loved mostly everything about this game but i do have a few complaints.
I found it to be poorer than mass effect 2. The galaxy seemed very small in comparison, i didnt find much incentive to explore the galaxy other than to gather war assets which i felt i would have to do to require the best ending.(lol) Well that was the ONLY reason to explore the galaxy other than gathering those annoying artifacts for the collection missions. The only place you could really go back to was the citadel. In me2 you had Omega Illium and The citadel etc.
I also found the characters to be a little less exciting thatn in me2. I missed the banter you could get on the normandy with your companions. It is there in me3 but theres much less of it and as theres less characters to take on your squad there isnt much to do aboard the ship. Ash annoyed me and James did nothing to add to anything in my eyes. Garrus liara and tali make up for that though.

With those mostly minor problems out the way i loved this game. Ive put 33 hours into it since friday (today is monday) and just completed it. The story telling is at its best as usual and the paragon and renegade choices make for some great scenes though the ending throws them out a little bit. My only quarrel with mass effect 2 was the voice actor who played male shaphard. I always found him to be a tad dull and plain. In me3 it seems hes really put in the effort. His reactions and everything sound much much better. Not perfect but damn better than mass effect 2. The story and characters (98% of them anyway), the additions to combat, the enemies. Everything is excellent.

Then you get to the last 20 minutes of the game... MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

The ending was terrible. You get 3 choices all 3 of which are shite. It seems like it doesnt matter what choices youv made in previous games because you only have those 3 to choose from and theyre all depressing and so unsatisfying. Mass effect 2 taught me that if you go paragon, help your team mates etc you can get an ending which you can be happy with. I dunno about anyone else but i was NOT expecting shephard to die. So i was waiting for an option that would keep him alive and end the reapers. But he dies in all 3 choices. From what i hear the same cut scene plays regardless of which you pick. There are just very slight changes with each.
Shephards the man who defies the odds and beats the bad guys. Saves the day etc. Typical hero. But at the end he just follows the catalyst kid and accepts theres no other way. Why bother with the pargon and renegade and all these other choices (importing your character etc ) when the ending is boiled down to 3 choices of crap which mostly play out the same. It just felt like such a poorly written way to end such an amazing series of games.
And speaking of the catalyst....what? First its the citadel and then its the kid from his dreams whom shephard sees on earth at the beginning of the game who says its his solution to chaos????? There shoulda been a renegade option there to blow his stupid little head off. That woulda been a much better ending. What were they thinking :rage: The explanation behind the reapers..They just pulled it out theyre arses.

Anyway. Not surprised to read that fans are wanting another ending. The makers said in an interview just before me3s release that another mass effect game wouldnt be out of the question. Can we have one with shephard please? Cant you just add a reapers die and everyone survives the war ending? Or at least one that doesnt feel like it ruined the game. What a drag :( Also It puts me off buying DLC. Why bother with it when i know the ending is pish. Meh :(

longest post ive ever written

EDIT holy shit this is a long post
i agree totally about the lack of characters. it had garrus, which makes any game awesome, but the other three weren't anything special. i hated the quarians and asari since the first game, so i was disappointed with liara and tali's (possible) return. i hated ashley too, so i told her to join hackett's team. there was also a lack of a good biotic in this one, which made things difficult for me since i'm a soldier.

the theatre of war could have been really really good if it had any impact on the fight for earth, but it didn't, so it was a bit of a waste of time really.

i do think it's the best of the three though, and unlike most, i loved the ending. i think shepard needed to die, for the feeling of sacrifice. if he'd survived there would have been a massive lack of emotion in the ending. i've only seen the synthesis end, but i'm planning on watching the other two. i'm now in the process of replaying 1 and doing things differently to see how much of an impact it has.

BioWare releases Mass Effect 3 multiplayer stats

Want to know just how many people have been playing the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer? How about how many credits have been earned? Most popular class? BioWare has your answers.

Via this handy infographic they’ve sent out, we now have answers to the questions like: How many people go into a battle with an assault rifle? and, what is the most popular non-human race played?

I realize that these aren’t the most typical multiplayer stats, but they are interesting nonetheless. I’ve also included a picture of a Turian about to stab a guy with his Omni blade. Enjoy:

Child's Play shuts down fundraiser aimed at changing Mass Effect 3's ending

Recently, part of that whole "We're the Internet and we're upset about Mass Effect 3's ending" thing manifested itself in a Child's Play fundraising initiative called "Retake Mass Effect 3." The movement attempted to combine raising money for the charity with convincing BioWare to change the ending of its game.

BioWare was completely unaffiliated with the fundraiser, however, and no amount of money raised would guarantee a new ending -- a fact severely misunderstood by many people that donated. "We were dealing with a lot of very confused people, more every day, and that told us we had a problem," said Penny Arcade's Jerry Holkins in an update on his site. "Apparently some of the people giving to the cause seemed to think that they were paying for a new ending to Mass Effect."

Holkins also said that Child's Play project manager Jamie Dillion was "buried under mail" about the fundraiser from people wanting to know "what the goal is, and how much they need to raise in order to get the ending produced." The charity was also contacted by PayPal, on account of a "high number" of donors requesting refunds. As a result, Child's Play requested that the fundraiser come to an end.

As an organisation, Child's Play has guidelines regulating how money is raised (Child's Play can't be used to sell anything, for instance). Since Retake ME3 technically fell within the boundaries of the charity's existing framework, Holkins has created a new rule to prevent future misunderstandings: "Child's Play cannot be a tool to draw attention to a cause. Child's Play must be the Cause."

thank god for that. i don't see why any fan thinks they have the right to petition for the ending of the game (or any game for that matter) to be changed. it is the way it is, and if you don't like it then tough shit.

Tired of hearing about everyone flipping shit and crying about the endings. They're really not THAT bad, you would honestly think they'd have bigger concerns than that.

Mass Effect 3 'Extended Cut' DLC free this summer, offers 'further clarity to the ending'

EA this morning announced Mass Effect 3's "Extended Cut" DLC, which adds to the game's ending and will arrive for free at some point this summer. According to the publisher, the content will add "additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes," which will apparently offer fans "further clarity to the ending of Mass Effect 3" and "deeper insights into how their personal journey concludes."

The additional content comes as a response to a group of fans who felt the third game ended in an unsatisfactory manner. That outcry apparently had a serious effect at BioWare internally, as project lead Casey Hudson says the team has, "reprioritized [its] post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player."

No specific information is given about what said content will be, but we sure hope it means we won't see other DLC packs delayed or scrapped as a result. Studio co-founder Ray Muzyka notes,"With the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut we think we have struck a good balance in delivering the answers players are looking for while maintaining the team's artistic vision for the end of this story arc."

Extended Cut will arrive on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC "this summer."

Awesome! Sumer seems a bit late though., hopefully its big and not just some 6minute cutscene.

This game is more than addictive than I thought it'd be. I finally caved in and bought it on Monday night. I don't know how many hours I've put into this game, it's more than 20 hours, I know that for sure.

[h=1]Operation Silencer is your next Mass Effect 3 multiplayer event[/h]BioWare has announced the next Mass Effect 3 Bounty Weekend will be Operation Silencer. Players will be tasked with dropping 3 million banshees between May 11 and May 14. If the goal is reached, those who participated will be handed a Victory Pack filled with unspecified goodies. Should a squad perform a full extraction against the enemy on Gold difficulty, they will net a Commendation Pack. So far, 22.84 million multiplayer matches have taken place in the game, according to the firm, out of which only 10.5 million successful extractions occurred. On Gold difficulty, only 3.5% were successful extractions. Thanks, GamesRadar.

[h=1]Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut hits next week[/h]June 22, 2012 10:42AM PDT
By Brendan Sinclair, Senior Editor

BioWare confirms June 26 launch for release of additional end-game content for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC versions of sci-fi RPG.
Mass Effect 3 fans hoping for resolution on the game's resolution won't have to wait much longer. BioWare today announced that the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut would be released for free on June 26.
Mass Effect 3's Extended Cut is almost here.

Set for release as a free downloadable content pack, the Extended Cut will add more cutscenes and content to the game's epilogue. BioWare has said the additional scenes will "include deeper insight to Commander Shepard's journey based on player choices during the war against the Reapers."
According to a FAQ on BioWare's official site, "The Extended Cut expands on the endings of Mass Effect 3 through additional scenes and epilogue sequences. It provides more of the answers and closure that players have been asking for. It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings."
After Mass Effect 3's March debut, some fans vocally expressed their distaste for the endgame, saying the conclusion (which was capped off by one of three largely similar cutscenes) did not sufficiently reflect player choices made over the course of the trilogy. For more on Mass Effect 3, check out GameSpot's review.

A rather sad apology to the fans. IMO.

sad evidence as well of Bioware's obvious decline.

I don't expect it will do any good but we'll see.

I was thinking about picking this up since I can snag it for $5 (thank you GameStop for fucking up all the time and owing me $20! haha!)

that shouldn't even be considered an apology

their artistic integrity is too important

i'll save my bitching until after nothing is explained and the ending is left more fucked up than it was before

but hey it has the possibility to actually explain what the hell happened and i'm not going to be mad at bioware for having a character die, i just want the ending to make sense

that's all i'm hoping for

They pretty much announced there will be a Mass Effect 4

this week as well.
Along with the Bioware founders retirements and Dragon Age Inquisition.

Not a fan of the Mass Effect series. With all the controversy about the third game I wonder how people feel about a 4th one.:ryan:

Mass Effect Trilogy comes to PS3 Dec. 4

November 2, 2012 4:56AM PDT
By Eddie Makuch, News Editor

BioWare to launch upcoming space RPG three-pack for Sony's platform one month after debut on PC and Xbox 360.
When BioWare announced the Mass Effect Trilogy in September, the developer slated the three-pack to arrive for PC and Xbox 360 on November 6, but kept quiet on a release date for the PlayStation 3. That has now changed, as BioWare has confirmed the Mass Effect Trilogy will be available for the Sony faithful on December 4.

The original Mass Effect never released for the PS3, but not only will Sony crowd get to play the game for the first time as part of the Trilogy, the title will also be available as a standalone download on the PlayStation Network.
The Trilogy includes the original Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, and will be available at retail for $60. A price for the standalone Mass Effect game through the PlayStation Network was not announced.
BioWare also detailed what PS3 fans can expect in the way of downloadable content for the Mass Effect Trilogy. The company said the PS3 version will include the original Mass Effect's Bring Down the Sky content, while Mass Effect 2 will feature the Cerberus Network (which includes the Kasumi, Overlord, and Lair of the Shadow Broker content). Lastly, BioWare said Mass Effect 3 for PS3 within the Trilogy will be "exactly as it originally shipped."
