What's your opinion on them?

Up until recently I've never had to use one.

Our washing machine recently decided to die and we can't get anyone out to fix it until April the 18th. So still two more weekends away of using the laundromat.

I remember coming out of the shops recently which was located near a laundromat and I wondered how anyone could use those places.

I mean, so many people's clothes would be washed in there and it's kind of gross, to me anyway. =/

I don't see a real reason why anyone couldn't afford a washing machine. They're not that expensive anymore.

I could never use a laundromat long term. It's just inconvenient having to cart your clothes there all the time and sit and wait, wasting your day away waiting for the clothes to wash.

What are your thoughts on this?

I do my laundry at a laundromat all the time. I live in an apartment complex and their machines are always broken. So about a block or two form my house is a nice laundromat I use. It takes more money then it should but it does what needs to be done. I usually go every Sunday or Monday on my day off. Put my clothes in and play my PSP until it's done. I think it is a great thing for those of us that do not have our own machines.

I've never liked laundromats, tbh. The ones I've had to visit have been pretty gross for the most part and they're always packed. Plus, I don't like sitting around waiting for my clothes to wash and dry. It gets boring. =/

Some people really can't afford a washing machine though. There are people who just scrape by week to week and while it would save money in the long run, they probably can't put up enough to buy one outright.

In our case, we live in an apartment that has no washer/dryer hookups. We could afford one but there'd be no point right now. The apartment complex has a laundry room so we just use that. It's not so bad because we can drop the clothes off and go back to the apartment while they finish.

Well there are several reasons. My aunts can't afford a washing machine, because they don't make enough money between their two jobs to support both of them and their two kids. Washing machines aren't that cheap btw, they're still quite a purchase as far as I'm concerned.

If I didn't live at home there's no way in hell I'd be able to afford one, I know that for a fact.

Laundromats can be good or bad, depends on where you go. I've used them several times in the past, and I've never found them any grosser than anything else that several people use. I mean, you go out to eat, how many people have used that plate before you? A lot, but they wash it each time. And doesn't a washing machine or a dryer sort of do that it's self each time it's use?

I think it's just the idea of putting your clothes into a machine that a lot of other people have used is what bothers me.

Was a bit rude in that comment and I apologise. But they aren't that expensive here anyway. We picked up a Samsung for $249 about three years ago on special and it's still working aside from the fact the door is stuck and I need a professional to play around with the wires to re-open it. >.<

The Laundromat we went to the other day was actually quite clean, but I have been into some before (not for my own use for other people I've been with) and the place has been feral. Rubbish all over the table, kids running around screaming and some of the scariest looking people hanging around in there. >.<

I suppose it depends on the area.

The main thing I really hate is the inconvenience. I hate sitting and waiting for my clothes to wash. I usually do that at home while I'm doing other housework and multi-task. I'm not one of those people who can just sit and read a magazine or listen to music. I always need to do something productive. >.<

i remember when i was a kid, going with friends, lugging the washing down there, lugging it back wet. having to wait there while the wash does its thing. Fuck that it takes forever. id just take anything i needed washing to my mothers rather than go to one of those places ever again

when my washing machine broke a bit back, i just let the washing pile up til i had a new one <_< i would have taken it to my mums if i got desperate

I'd never leave my stuff and come back but if I could get a few loads going at once, have something to do to keep me occupied for a few hours, then I could manage. If it was crowded and I had to do one load at a time I'd be there all effing day and go mad.

Getting a few hours of studying in while I waited for laundry was SOP on Sunday's in college as i tried to limit the number of times I went home each semester to maybe 2.

Well now!Yeh've found the right person t' be askin' about them laundromats.

Our washing machine broke 2 years ago and we've used them ever since. We usually just drop our clothes off and go get dinner or something;they're always safe, but that probably wouldn't be true in a bigger town.I've never thought about uncleanliness before.Honestly,I think it's a little bit of an irrational fear;the washing machine(which has dangerous chemicals in it)kills all the germs we would care about, and the clothes are clean when they go into the dryer.

I've never had to use them aside for when I'm on a holiday; I find them quite useful when I'm away from home. To be honest the thought of other people putting their dirty clothes in before me never crossed my mind, but I can't say it bothers me too much. I have my own washing machine so I rarely use laundromats but if I needed to use them, I'd find them quite convenient.

At my apartment, the washer and dryer is shared among all the people in my unit and it is on the basement floor. You have to pay 4 quarters for the washer and dryer (8 altogether). It's not too bad. I can put my clothes in and set a timer in my apartment.

I've never actually had to go to a laundromat though. If the washer or dryer was not working, I'd probably just bring my clothes to my parents house and wash them there. I can't see myself sitting somewhere waiting for my clothes to finish washing.

Ehh I'm not a big fan of them. You have to be around other people which I hate, and it's just not comfortable. We have our own laundry room in our house with a washer and dryer built in. It's much more peaceful. You don't have to even leave the house.

Simply put: nah man I'm good, I'll use the machine in the house.

When we lived in an apartment building for many years of my life, we lived on the second floor and the basement was a couple of floors below us...and that was where the washing machines were. They weren't always broken but the dryers never dried our clothes properly because they were old...so we'd have to run a couple of dollars in them to dry each load of laundry...and it cost about a buck to wash each load. That wasn't what particularly bothered me. What did was the other arseholes in the complex. They'd leave their crap in there for HOURS at a time until I was like pshh whatever and I put all of their crap on the table down there for them to sort out. I don't have all day to wait to be able to do my laundry :hmph:

Then, we were fortunate enough to move into my grandparent's house after they passed and we have their washer and dryer. It is so nice to be able to do laundry whenever you want and not have to share them with a bunch of people who can sit on them selfishly all day.

Laundromats aren't the coolest either, but when people's stuff breaks and they can't afford instant replacements and need clean clothes they are an alternative. I don't feel comfortable sitting around a bunch of strangers though...and sharing equipment with them though.

i dislike the idea of going to laundromats because i don't like the idea of washing my clothes with other people's clothes, especially underwear and stuff. a lot of diseases aren't killed from washing machines (even at their hot heat) so I don't particularly trust it to clean my own clothes.

it just bothers me :damon:

in fact, it's the one thing that would prevent me from living in the city. :lew:
