I think that originally, Larsa was supposed to have a bigger role in the game, even being a main playable character. The promotional image SE first released was this -

FFXII.jpg

I think Larsa is a main character in the new Zodiac Job System version, but I'm not really sure...

Discuss, Larsas role in the game, and if it would be possible for him to have been a fully playable character.

Lol...actually, I'm thinking more along the lines of, "Vaan was supposed to have a bigger role in the game."

But since we're talking about Larsa...are you suggesting another FFXII-related game where Larsa starrs as the main hero...? =/

But anyway, the picture of him standing with the rest of the playable characters do seem a bit out of place. However, the fact that he's in the very back might suggest that there's really nothing out of the ordinary. I mean, he did tag-along for battles, but that's it.

I really don't think he was orginally supposed to be a main character to begin with, despite the image there.

Hrmm...If that is so Suki then Reddas would be up there if Larsa was nothing special or just the ordinary.

I think he was supposed to have more of a major role in the game than he did. But, really, he DID have a major role in the game with his brother and all.

Because like you stated, Larsa did have quite a major role along with his brother. Reddas was probably secondary next to Larsa. And I'm not really saying he's nothing special of the sort either. =/

Larsa just wasn't meant to be part of the whole "main party", but he is a main character in a sense that revolves the whole storyline, nonetheless. I just wouldn't say, main playable character.

I agree, but still I think Larsa had a role big enough, even bigger than Vaan's. Also FFXII was too short in general, a great story that was wasted on Sub Missions. Vaan needed a bigger Role, and also the Judges. Think that we only fight three of them? We barely even hear of Zargabaath 'till the end, and let's not mention that they
killed Judge Ghis too soon
:stare:

In terms of how the history folds out, Larsa does have a role big enough to justify his place in the promo, but I agree that he seems somewhat peripheral in terms of how much we get to see him and learn about him.

But the real question: Who the hell decided to make Vaan so nicely oiled? Perhaps it was the same people who made Larsa a prince of indistinguishable sex.

I find it somewhat remarkable that a twelve year-old kid was doing similar damage to a 36 year-old knight, but... hey.

As for his role, I think that he played a very important role, but behind the scenes: kind of like the orchestra is important in a play, but not the main feature. Larsa is a lot of what motivated the team, particularly Penelo and Ashe.

In the picture, he kind of looks like he's pinching Ashe's fine, fine booty...

larsa has the same role as al cid, he is trying to prevent the war. the reason he is more important than al cid is because he is vayne's brother, so its personal for him. as he realises that vayne is not what larsa thinks he is

Fran's is much finer though:wacky:

I think his role was represented very well in the game, so I don't really see a problem there. Not keen on the whole Guests being made Perma characters, I thought it was unique Guest characters just being guests. *shrugs*

Yes Larsa was a main character but he wasn´t just full time party member. They already had one royal in team so there was need for another. Larsa is good character IMO and really like guest-character things. They can kill off main characters but you don´t lost anything battle-wise since they are only guests.

Well, Larsa, I think, needed to be a playable character. Along with Al-Cid. Why wasn't Al-Cid even a guest!? Ah..=(.

Anywho, maybe it's the fact that Larsa had a big enough role in the game he didn't need to be a main character. Although, he would've been better than Penelo!! </3.

anyone would have been

i think that al cid has better things to do then hang out with vaan and co. he is trying to stop the war, so he couldnt really. and it would be dangerous for him, he is more important than larsa so he cant be a guest incase he dies

And all of these things don't apply to Larsa, too?
I think they deliberately made Rozzaria - and as such Al-Cid - off-limits in order to highlight that Archadia is the enemy, and also to give Ivalice an air of being bigger than the locations you can visit.

I adored Larsa and to be honest, I would have loved for him to have been a main playable character. Not only would it fit in with his story of actively trying to stop his brother, but that cute ickle face would constantly be around.

I was sad when he left my party at Mt Bur-Omisace. :( Who cares if there was already one royal in the party? He would have so much better than Ashe. [Who just irritates the hell out of me at the moment.] I hate have just 6 characters to choose from. Reminds me too much of FFVIII [which I love, don't get me wrong] but the lack of characters to choose from was slightly depressing. I've had only two Guest characters so far, as I'm only up to the Stilshrine of Miriam, but Larsa is the only one of the two I really enjoyed having in my party. Vossler was far too much like Basch imo. Least Larsa had his own personality. =\

[FYI: Penelo = <3 ... ]

Larsa is a playable character in the International version of FFXII, along with Vossler and Reddas.

Larsa did have a rather big role in the game, he was just a back-stage kind of character. I felt bad for the poor kid though. By the end of the game, he pretty much loses everything.

Larsa was a great character though, and my favorite guest. Simply do the fact that he just deals out Hi-Potions and X-Potions like it's nobodies business. XD

XD I cannot tell you how many times he saved my ass.. It actually freaked me out when he left my party
after he learns of his father's death
.. I almost forgot that he was just a guest!>_<

I'm agreeing with the notion that it's because he had a huge role, plot-wise. Reddas may have destroyed the Sun-Cryst, but Larsa stopped the war. Not to mention, the European box art is Judge Gabranth, not a "main" character (who mortally wounded Vayne); chances are, it's just SE giving some supporting characters a little recognition.

Oh, and I also agree with the thing about Larsa looking very androgynous and Penelo being a good character (but needing more lines </3).

Any character who had an "auto high potion when ally HP reaches below 40%" gambit deserves to be on that poster :P

But seriously it is a little weird to see him on there and no other guest characters or even antagonists. I figure having him on would lead to speculation which is what we in the FF community like to do especially when we see early material of a new installment :)

Personally like a lot of other people were stating in this thread, it seems that he does play quite a main part, even if he's not actually playable.

I have always thought of him being part of the little action squad we call the heroes, with his interest in Penelo among other things. If he was meant to be someone bigger before? I have to say I doubt it, it would have required a lot of rewriting of the script if that was the case.

But still, an interesting character.
