some japanese speaks english in their own way. or i should say that they CREATE their own style and type of english, which is pronounce in their own specific words, but chinese dont.


i'm a malaysian-chinese, and people here care very much about how you should pronounce words, especially my teacher she always deny me. but i found that people speaking english dont really care about how those who came from other country and whose mother languages not english pronounce words....


like english dont mind if an african speaks broken english,
or a german never care if a korean speaks german badly.
its all about what we say, not how we pronounce the words!!!

this is the story:

once upon a time when a girl was reading a poem to her class, she pronounced 'suicide' as 'su-weh-side'. but her teacher said that she should pronounce it as 'su-wi-side', like everyone did.

but this girl think that both might be acceptable, so she went for her dictionary. the dictionary showed her that there are people pronounce it as 'su-e-side' as well as people pronounce it as 'su-i-side' and even 'sju-i-side'.

the girl showed her teacher the dict, but the teacher insisted that the dict told lie.

so the girl think internet may help her. the end.



because its not everyday you run into a moron or idiot who cares very much about correct pronunciation.
 
Yeah. Most Asian languages don't pronounce hard letters in their own language so when they learn English, it doesn't always sound the same either.

My friend always used to get picked on at school because she didn't pronounce the hard sounds in words so people didn't always quite understand what she meant. I don't think some people realise that if you don't talk in a certain way (using harder sounds for example) you can't always hear it in other languages. It took her a while to phrase the hard sounds herself and she still doesn't do it all the time, but at least people now understand her better.

She's more chinese than Japanese. In that I mean that she was brought up talking more Chinese with her father's side of the family. She can speak Chinese and Japanese and English fluently but her English can still sound a little broken.

You are right. Who cares exactly how something is pronounced. Every language/accent is always going to say it differently. So long as people are open to the different variations of how words are spoken, it shouldn't matter.

I'd normally pronounce it a lot more like sir-cide, accents ftw.
However if I were talking to a foreigner I'd pronounce it Sue-ee-cide.
 
Su-ee-side. Hmm..no 'weh' for me. Not really sure if I have an accent, but I am Asian. :gasp:
