How often do you read the booklet?

Ah, I almost never look at the booklet twice.
I normally flip through it once I first get it to look at the characters and pictures, then I'll just play, but if I need to know the control's I'll just look back in the book.

Funny because always when I was stuck on a part in the game, my mum would always say look in the book and I was all like 'Mum...the book isn't some game guide to beating the game, it just tells you control's and shit.'

I rarely read the booklets... However when I was younger on occassion if I'd bought a game and was travelling in the car on the way home then I'd look at the booklet in the car, all excited and that.

Then there was that crazy day when I was told to get something to occupy myself with in the car as we went out, so I brought down all the FF booklets I had at the time (FF7,8,9 and 6 I think it was), and I looked through them all for some crazy reason. :D I think I also went on to compare the logos and see which one I liked best (for which I chose 6).

When I was a kid I would read the booklets to get a glimple of the characters (Mostly Tekken games and FFX once) and their backgrounds, it made me all the more excited to play. I've never actually needed it.

But now I no longer have the patience.

I've had to read the button configuration on some games in the manual because fighting games don't have tutorial levels. Well most don't.....

And I've looked in to some of them for art ideas or help in drawing a character in a different way.

Other then that the booklets are taking up space in the game case.

I actually read the booklet a lot somehow, especially during the first couple of weeks I have a game. I like reading background info and all that stuff. I don't really care too much about the controls (except for Oblivion, since there were too many functions).

this depends on the game, when i buy an ff game i never do cause all the characters are explained within the game, but for my ps3 i sometimes read the booklet, for unreal tornement i did because i wanted to know what was the best weapon before i played the game, without going into game play so i have an advantage of knowing what is the best weapon for me

It really depends on the game. If there is a tutorial built in, especially if it's mandatory, then I'll just ignore the manual and rely on the game tutorial. Plus for most games, the only thing you need is the gamepad/keypad layout to figure out the controls.

This. I hate waiting until we get home to play a game, so I hold myself over by reading the guides and character info. The best one I've read was for FFIII DS, because it had job descriptions. Those were pretty fun to read about.

It really depends on the game but for the most part I wont bother as 90% ofgames have tutorials that allow you to get to grips with the controls. I do have a quick flick through most adventure/RPG games however to see if they provide some kind of background info, which although is often provided in game is still good to know.

With sports games i'll have a 2 minute flick through to check out the control setup but after that i'll never look at it again and simply learn by doing.

Now that you mention it, I almost never read the manual. The only time I used to do so was on the car ride home from wherever I got it, and that was just because I was bored.

Now that I drive myself to the store (and I certainly can't read it and drive at the same time) I pretty much never even glance at the pages beyond the cover.

I just enjoy figuring out the games controls and basics myself. That and, more often than not, games with difficult controls have in-game tutorials. But if they don't that's okay too.

Pretty much never.

But I'm OCD/Collector, so I won't buy a game unless it has the coverart and booklet.

The only times I ever actually read the booklet are when I'm bored or I have no clue about the game I bought 'cause I just picked it up out of curiosity. Other than that I just leave it alone and play the game to figure things out.

/sarcasim Booklet? What's that? You don't mean the thing that just decorates my game case, do you?

Rofl. No, I never read the books, though. Waste of time in my opinion, I adapt rather easilly to different gameplay styles so that bit doesnt matter to me. Unless I absolutely "have" to do something I don't know how to do, and the it's not covered by whatever in-game guide I have when I press the Start button, then I guess I'd look at it as a last resort. Every now and then when I'm extremely bored, I might flip through it just for pictures or something, but nothing very extensive.

Very often early in the game. I do read quite a lot to help absorb the info there and it's helpful cos you'll never know what is in the game / how to do it etc.

When I get a new game, I usually flip through the instruction booklet, but not to read the instructions. Some instruction booklets have interesting artwork, like the one for the MGS games that have an instruction comic inside. I don't see much of a point to read them anymore since most games these days have special instruction stages at the beginning of them anyways.

I flip through and look at the pictures... That's about it. Now if I get stuck trying to figure out some sort of function in the game THEN I'll open up the booklet and do a bit of reading. I don't read through it in the first place to avoid any spoilers.

I never read the booklet first, I always just get right into the game. The only time I ever read it is when I want to read about the characters, story, look at pictures pictures, etc. But I never read it for instructions. If I did have troubles, I'd usually just look it up on the internet, haha. Don't know why, but I prefer the internet rather than the booklet.

I always flip through it right before I put the game in to play it. Don't really absorb anything because I'm too happy about having something new to play. lol

I almost always read the manual to an RPG game. Sometimes there are features in the game that I might overlook; I can still play through the game without using those features, but it saves me some headaches if I know about them beforehand.

I used to read the instruction booklets some, but I don't anymore, I can pick up on how to play a game on the fly no problem, I dare say I am a pretty quick learner. ^_^

Sometimes, even when I don't need to, I actually will read an instruction booklet just to see what is in it, for the sake of knowing.
