How fast does your computer boot up?

I timed mine with my iPod Classic, the on power self test takes five seconds and than the startup chime plays and goes to the white/grey screen with the Apple Logo.

In the 32 bit kernel it boots in 35/40 seconds (it depends on if my computer is happy with me or not)

In the 64 bit kernel it boots in 27/33 seconds... again, depends xD

So if you have a stop watch or are good at counting seconds, time your computer and tell us how long it takes to start! Also you can include your specs if you want.

There might be some free programs out there for windows that you can download and install to automatically time your startup but I don't want to give links. I'm worried some might not be legit or something.

I only just bought my computer a month or so ago and I wanted to make sure I got a decent one.

I wanted one that was going to be fast all the time, especially at start up.

Haven't timed the start up but I would say it only takes a few seconds.

Um... slow. Usually about 15 minutes, but this computer is 10 years old. It's an old-school iMac.

I don't know how fast cause I didn't time it up but it's fast.

Processor: Intel (R) Core(TM)2 Duo E7400 2.80 GHz

RAM: 4.00 GB

Hard drive: 1TB

Video card: Nividia GeForce | Shared with System: 1406 | Dedicated: 1024

Wow, quad core shouldn't take long to start! I have a friend that got one of the new Core i7 iMacs and she says it starts super fast. By super fast I assume she means like 10 seconds tops. I dunno though, hard to tell. I'll have to have her time it sometime xD

Our Macintosh plus boots in like 5 seconds =/ and its a computer from like.. 87? 88? Sad -_-

Do you mean boot to the Windows sign on screen or load the desktop? :hmmm:

Mine boots to the sign on screen in about 10-15 seconds. I rarely restart it though. Since it's a laptop, I just shut it and let it go to sleep.

Load the desktop of course =D

Mine takes like... 5 seconds to get to the Apple screen xD

Oh, that takes like five seconds then. I don't know about Macs but I know with Windows, the more stuff you have on your desktop, the slower it loads. I try to keep the desktop icons to a minimum.

omfg, it takes about 5 years, il switxhit on,thenilhave to wanderoff and dosumat for 5/10minutes beforeitcomeson, ittakesFOREVER

You all have so much RAM :grumpy: It takes like 17 minutes for mine to boot up :gonk: Its really old and has very low RAM that I will not enclose to you :griin:

Gah you meanie!! :gonk:

My computer only takes 3 extra seconds to boot with 2 GB of ram =O

Well I don't have all the fancy things an' whanot takes too damn long XD. but start up is pretty fast not slow but not like BAM lightn fast fast XD. As far as the screen and the internet connection thing it takes forever XD like 5-7 mins but thats a different story I guess XD

My laptop boosts up rather fast actually. Everything us up within a minute, but that's with me being lazy and typing in the password after walking away for like thirty seconds. Once I type in the password and everything it all loads up very fast despite all the programs I have start up when I turn it on.Have 8 gigs of DDR2 ram and I never get any heat from anything, even at startup...except WoW.

8 GB of RAM must be blazing. I could put 8GB of DDR3 in here but I seriously think I should wait a while. My computer is a late 2008 model and I'm having a hard time making use of the 4GB I have now. =/

In Windows XP I never bothered having more than 3GB because Windows doesn't really account more than 2.97GB when it's a 32bit OS.

In contrast to Leopard which was 32bit and could use gigs upon gigs of ram. It wasn't as efficient as say Snow Leopard is in the 64bit kernel but meh.. I like to have my ram accounted for.

Windows 7 64 bit all the way! xD

Hahahaha I wonder if I was drunk at the time of this post... or if I'd just murdered another keybopard.... or quite likely both

Considering how it used to be, it doesnt take half as long to start up now (by my standards at least....) its getting the monitor to come on that takes forever, I swear it has to think about it for a good five minutes before it actually relents and lets me on :hmph:

I use the Dell Inspiron 6400 [with Windows 7]. It is a simple model compared to others that people are selling today, but since I've only have it for almost a month, it's performance is excellent. It does start up very quickly, and since the majority of the junk is on my flash drive and not the hard drive itself, it can pretty much load anything pretty fast. The internet speed is good too (802.11n) since we use a Linksys router in our home. So bottom line, the speed of performance of this computer is very much satisfactory.

Well I'm on an EEE PC netbook and it only takes about five minutes tops, even with a system check :hmmm: I'm on Linux, I just upgraded to Ubuntu 9.10 (dang I'm behind :gonk:) and it's very quick with getting started up. However, I always hate having to restart it (system updates constantly :hmph:), because I always have like 8 or 9 different tabs for different applications open at one time, and if I restart rather than just suspending like usual, I have to go into everything and reopen it all over again, do shift+F5 in all the text documents I have open, hit pause on any Youtube tabs I have open so they don't autoplay and crash the damn thing, etc. :hmph: So yeah, I leave it on as often as possible as a result :griin:
