Has anyone had any kind of surgery that altered your appearance?

Nose jobs, breast implants, braces, etc.

It can be anything that altered your appearance in some way or another, whether it was intentional or not.

E.g: Say you had some sort of transplant for health reasons.

Of course this is rather personal and you don't have to tell us everything, but I was just curious to know how many of you have had anything like this done.

Please elaborate as much as you can so that there are no one liners. =)

I've had braces during highschool.

I was in year 8 when I first got them and I think it was right at the end of the year.

I'm pretty sure that they were on for two years.

This obviously altered my smile and I'm very thankful my parents did this for me.

I still have the mould of my old smile. It looks shocking compared to my smile now! I don't know if I would smile as much as I do know if I still had bad teeth. =/

I had braces as well, though it was more because of some jaw issues. They wanted to correct my bite so that it wouldn't give me too much issue in the future and they also look nice and straight.

Only braces for me, had too many teeth in my go apparently so Ive had a fair few removed as well, problem is when my braces came off 2 years l;ater and I was given a retainer, I never wore it, so I still have 2 small gaps either side, glad I had them though, even though my bottom teeth were always straight (still no idea why they stuck braces on those) my top set of gnashers would have just been over crowded, even though I don't think they were wonky either, it was just the teeth at the sides... fuck knows I cant remember it was years ago, either way, Im glad I had them because I would of only wanted it sorting when I was older then it would have cost money. Lots of it. Id never rule out surgery either 8F But only if I got really wrinkly and I wanted abit of a face lift, not that Id be able to afford it anyway. I also wouldnt mind some boobs. I dont have any :mokken:

No, I haven't personally, but my mother has.

She was really overweight, so she had her stomach stapled, or a gastric bypass, or however you spell/say it. It wasn't really an image decision so much as one based on health that probably saved her life. Uh, my dad had to have all his teeth pulled recently because of a fever he had when he was a child, so that altered his appearnce, too. But that was for health, too.

Yes, I've had Braces and that's about it though. I was 12ish I believe just going into the middle/highschool area. It only sucked because I was playing football that year and every hit even with a mouth piece sucked arse.

I had some minor reconstructive plastic surgery on my cheek. I had a pretty good gash from some glass, and it left me with a right nasty little scar. Didn't help that the surgeon didn't do a particularly good job.

I had braces for four years. My teeth were so crooked it looked like half of them were missing. I'm glad my parents did that. My favorite thing was the palet spacer. You had to stick a little pin in it to tighten it and it would space your teeth out. I thought it felt pretty neat. ^_^

Braces for 4.5 years and actually had to force the Ortho to take them off before I went to college. I had 4 teeth pulled prior to getting them on and I think they created gaps that were just too big to close in the typical 4 year timeframe.

I'm contemplating Invisilign to try to and finish the job and clean things up (me teeth aren't bad at all - just some small gaps that have opened on either side of my "fangs" as things settled back over the last few years). But, it'd be tough to wear to work where I spend a lot of time talking and/or on the phone.

At 3 I tripped on a brick and got a nasty cut under my chin. It's really small now, but I still have the stitches and the like. Other than that, I can't say I have ever gotten any surgey for my face or the like, though my Mom recently got some Botox for her face.

When I was about 1 I had to have Surgery on my hip. I was born without the socket in the ball and socket thing so basically my right leg was not connected to my hip. The had to break a few bones elsewhere and construct a new one from those bones... I have a scar going from the top of my hip down to about a fourth of the way down my hip. I might have to have it looked at again though.... I think that after my growth spurt, it may have pinched a nerve... because now it hurts A LOT

I had to get braces when I was about 14 to fix an overbite. The orthodontist said that they would have to be on for at least a year but I got them off after about 7 months.

Aside from that though I haven't had anything done. I met someone the other day who recently got breast implants, I was quite surprised because I didn't think implants were that common but they look good never the less.

^^ I know right!

At least three people at my last work place had breast implants and at my new work place two girls had nose jobs. It's just not the sort of thing you hear of around my area.

Just to add on to my last post, I actually had my braces off for about two or three years and had to wear a retainer on the top and bottom.

Though it started to hurt the bottom teeth by wearing my bottom retainer because my teeth had started to move again.

So I went back to the orthodontist and he put braces back on my bottom teeth. >_<

I had to wear them for six months and this time he glued on a permanent retainer at the back of my teeth so that I could always have it on even when eating. I've had it on for two years and a half now.

Not sure when I have to go back in to get it taken off. XD

It's so much better because my teeth are so nice and straight again. XD

How could I forget the tongue op I had :gasp:

It was only a minor proceedure, and Im lucky I didn't have to pay really because it can count as a cosmetic proceedure if yuou're unlucky. It didn't really alter my appearance, it was more to do with my speech (though it wasn't even noticable, I'd just get tongue tied alot, which funnily enough is what the condition was called) It just started to drive me mad because I was always getting ulcers under my tongue and tripping over my words all the time

Soooo I had this excess skin removed that was anchoring my tongue down. Well. I wish I'd never bothered. Injections and stitches in your tongue are NOT nice, I was in pain for weeks, everything made it hurt ]:

I had a nose job. Not to alter the shape of my nose but the nasal passages.
On one side (cant remember which) the nasal passage was so small that i couldnt breathe through it. I had an operation in which they widened it making the other one smaller. This is going back yeaaaaaaars ago though. I was probadly only like 8 or 9 at the time. Apart from that ive had stitches for some minor cuts but thats it.

:gonk: I just noticed I didn't say how My hip surgery altered my appearance. it has only really altered my appearance in that I walk kinda odd now. I kinda have a slight limp, and when it starts to hurt I walk kinda slow >_>
