Considering the fact that the former is coming out in July whilst the latter is currently in pre-production, I thought it best if there was one thread for all three movies (DH has been split into two parts, for those not in the know).

So, what are your expectations about these upcoming movies? Are there any changes you want them to keep, or anything you want them to keep the same from the books?
 
I think they'll pretty much be like all of the other movies, not spectacular, but not horrifically bad either. They books are fat, there's a lot packed into them, and it doesn't transition well into a movie.

I just hope to god they don't include that atrocious epilogue from DH...or a Dumbledore gay sex scene.
 
Why don't the books transition well into a movie? I don't understand this - that's why Directors have Screenwriters - to streamline the book so that it makes sense on the big screen

I have to agree with you. That has to be one of the cheesiest chapters I've ever read in any book. It didn't tell us anything - except that Ron's a bastard, as is Harry, Ginny is a bint who apparently lets her husband do whatever he wants, including (apparently) getting total control over naming the kids.

As for the gay sex scene. Very unlikely to happen in a kids movie.
 
And by streamlining the books, you lose a lot of the appeal. It's similar in plot, but a lot of the little nuances you fall in love with in the book disappear, and the overall product just feels flat. It's impossible to take an 800 page book that might take 10-15 hours to read and condense it into two and half hours without losing a huge chunk of the atmosphere.
 
I'm most worried about them ruining Dumbledore's death D= I heard a rumour that his funeral is no longer in the movie, which is going to really really spoil it.

I can see why they split Deathly Hallows up into two movies, I just hope they cover everything - I'm expecting an EPIC Battle of Hogwarts - but I hope they leave the gay little epilogue out, that was lazy writing.
 
The two Deathly Hallows films have dates pencilled in now - the first is due out in November 2010 with the second film down for July 2011.

I suspect people who are hoping the films swerve the (rather divisive) epilogue of Deathly Hallows will be disappointed though.

Not as lazy as the battle.
All she does is kill off characters at will. She clearly wrote that with the movie in mind, as everyone dies.
I didn't like the fifth movie. Umbridge in particular, the casting was idiotic, also they may as well have replaced her laugh with "are you having a laugh", because instead of a movie they tried to make a catchphrase based sitcom.

Another problem for me, because it's not a kids movie. The first two or three were, but the fourth isn't and the ones after is aren't. It should be dark rather than a movie for kids.
 
I really really hope they keep close to the books. I wasn't to happy with Order of the Phoenix because there was alot that was not included in the movie. I know they can't put EVERYTHING in the movies,but they left out some things I would consider to be important like some of the scenes in the Department of Mysteries.

Anyway,I agree with what most everyone else has posted. I hope they keep close to the books. I hope they do not screw up the Harry and Dumbledore scene where they are searching for that horcrux in the locket. They have to include the Inferi. I also hope they don't mess up the death scene that Phoenix mentioned.

There's just so much that Im afraid they will ruin,esp in the last chapters of the Deathly Hollow. I also hope they don't forget to put in the scene at Xenophilius Lovegood's home. Im afraid they will leave out alot in Half Blood Prince too.

None the less though,Im still going to see them. I miss Richard Harris playing Dumbledore. He was the best and portrayed Dumbledore just exactly how I imagined him.

They have included the Infri, because they've been seen in some of the Sneak peaks and trailers for the film.

I hated Richard Harris' portrayal. It just seemed to have no energy at all. Not that it was his fault, considering he was extreamly ill at the time. But still.
 
Final 'Harry Potters' to be released in 3D

Warner Bros has confirmed that it will release the next Harry Potter films in 3D.

The two Deathly Hallows movies, which are based on JK Rowling's final book in the wizard series, will cost $5 million a piece to convert to the 3D format, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The news comes in the week that James Cameron's 3D space epic Avatar smashed the $1.843 billion all-time box office record held by Titanic.

Last year's Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince included 3D footage for its IMAX screenings.

Warner has also firmed up plans to bring out its Clash Of The Titans remake in 3D and has pushed back its release until April 2 in order to complete the conversion.

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part I will open on November 19 this year, with Part II following on July 15, 2011.

I definitely welcome the news, especially after seeing Avatar. Everything seems to be moving into 3D now and I'd love to see Harry Potter in it, too.
 
Same, Ami! In fact I'm really anticipating the transition to 3D because I was astounded by what I saw in Avatar. To put it simply, 3D does literally add a new dimension to films.

I'm excited at the prospect of the last two Harry Potter films in 3D. Deathly Hallows in itself will be a very climatic and exciting film because a lot happens in the book compared to previous books in the series. But having it in 3D will increase this even more.

The idea of Deathly Hallows being split into two parts still sounds weird to me, though understandable. I would rather they have room to keep things in such as the dragon in Gringott's rather than taking them out.
 
Great news :D I agree--I'd rather see them split the movie than leave out anything exciting. I was a little disappointed that the end scene of Half-Blood Prince left out a lot of the action, but I have a feeling they'll do better with this one, especially since it's the last in the series. The Gringotts scene should be great--I can't wait to see how they do it. Also looking forward to Godric's Hollow and the frozen lake/locket part.
 
I'm hoping that they do the last two parts justice. It seemed that with each film as the series went on over the years, they missed more and more stuff out. From someone who's read the books, it's quite concerning. People think they've no need to read the books when the films come out and because they miss this stuff, the viewers aren't going to know everything.

This is why I'm encouraging everyone to read the books before the films both come out. Yes, it will spoil the plot for you. But think about the other films and the vital things that were missed out. So I'm hoping Deathly Hallows is done justice and gets everything it needs to make sense at all.
 
Having the film split into 2 is much better on the whole and whilst I'd prefer to only have 1 film it's obviously not practical if they want to fit everything into it so I'm happy with 2 films if they get everything rammed in. I'm not so happy about the 3D version mind, whilst I'll still go see it in 3D I don't really see the need in a Harry Potter film. It'll work well with the special effects but it's not really reliant on them like Avatar, CGI Films etc D:
 
I think that's actually one of the best things about HP--the story is good enough that it doesn't need to rely on graphics/special effects to be enjoyable. I liked the first two done by Chris Columbus just as much as any of the other ones, and the production quality wasn't nearly as high-tech as it is in the newest one. It's just a really good story, and the special effects are more like an embellishment than anything.
 
Sorry to double-post, but seeing as how the last post was about six months ago...

Has anyone seen this new trailer for DH? It was just released today, and it is by far the best trailer I've seen yet, though IMO it is quite spoiler-heavy, especially if you don't want to see how certain things have been interpreted in the film. Holy sh*t Thanks for the video I most definitiely want to see this. Watching the video it looks like they not only didn't leave anything out but they added some stuff too Awesome Vid
 
The best trailer of this year I've seen yet. I'm really anticipating the final battle between Harry and Voldemort because I never expected the castle to be in a crippling mess like that.

I know :gasp: That set towards the end looks amazing. Can't wait to see the entire Gringotts scene in one piece either, and also to see how they do the part with Bathilda Bagshot, even though it creeps me out :gonk:
 
Yeah I saw the trailer earlier. It's so epic, and probably the best trailer ever :)


I can't wait to see how Helena Bonham-Carter portray Hermione disguising as Bellatrix. And Snape's memory scenes. Oh and the seven potters and the wedding...

CAN'T WAIT!
