Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince/Deathly Hallows

The trailer is really epic, but it has some huge plot spoilers for those who don't read the books (not including me, I've read them all like 10 times). There are also already a few scenes I can pick out that are quite different from the original. While I think the books are so so much better than the movies, they're still great. And I think DEathly Hallows will be the best yet because they're splitting it in two. So I really hope they're similar to the books *crosses fingers* All in all, I'm TOO excited. Will I dress up and go at midnight? Hell yes=)

I can't wait to see how Helena Bonham-Carter portray Hermione disguising as Bellatrix.

I'd forgotten about that :lew: That's going to be great XD Also the Malfoy mansion, I'm curious to see if the inside and the yard with the hedges look anything like I've been picturing them :hmmm:

I really hope they do the torture scene with Hermione too. I think it really shows how strong she actually is; the movies seem to downplay the strength that she shows in the books.

I want to see Hermione being tortured as well. For me, that was one of the most horrifying scenes in the book and yet I still like how it showed how strong and independent she really is. I also forgot she's disguised as Bellatrix, too. It's going to be interesting to see a Hermione pretending to be Bellatrix, who is really not her. xD

If the book didn't already have me stoked and excited to see the movie, then this trailer definitely has now. The castle crumbling like that with corpses on the courtyard is a big highlight for me there. There's one or two scenes I don't recognise from the book (the Death Eater stopping the train for example), but I'm looking forward to seeing what little changes they have made - hopefully the final battle because I felt that could have been improved in the book.

The scene with Hermione/Bellatrix in Diagon Alley. xD That will be interesting and potentially hilarious. I'm looking forward to the Ministry of Magic scene - with the disguises used and the return of Umbridge etc. And I agree, I want them to show Hermione being tortured as well. There's no better scene to convey just how strong Hermione really is, and a perfect scene to show what a sadistic and brutal villain Bellatrix is.

Too bad we won't be seeing the second part until next summer though. >.<

Honestly, I'm not that excited about it.

I know that there are going to be great special effects but they focus way too much on that and not enough on story. The film version of the HBP sufered from that. I love love love HP, it was one of the first forums I ever joined, and I was obessed with the books. At one point maybe even to Twilight levels.

But the movies are so blah to me anymore. I hate when they cut out things that are important with the books and add in trash (like the attack on the Weasleys that was a pointless waste of time in HBP). They use every excuse to add flash without substance.

But so I'm not all doomy, I do think that the talent of the actors saves the films from being awful (unlike Twilight which is like watching brick walls on a screen).

I do think they're concentrating on including as much as they can, which is why they've probably made it into two films. I hope it stays very accurate or else there are going to be a lot of plot holes here, there and everywhere.

AMAGA :x3: That one was just as good as the first trailer if not better :yay: Except it didn't look like Scrimgeour had flaming red hair and a mustache/beard and that's how I thought he was supposed to look :ness: Oh well.

I am going to be very disappointed though if they don't show
Kreacher's explanation of Regulus Black going after the locket
as a flashback though :sad2: And from what I can tell from reading the potential cast lists, so far it doesn't look like
Regulus
's actor is going to be in it :sad3: They did that with the Gaunts in HBP and even though I did really like that movie, that omission was also quite disappointing.

Oh my god this movie better be accurate or I'll go insane. I love the book to death so the next two movies better blow my socks off. Especially the Hogwarts battle :britt: I'd be so mad if they cut out huge relevant chunks....

Well, the film is split into two parts to include as much as humanly possible. But I can definitely see your point. I'm hoping that this film will be the most accurate from the series when it comes to nailing the book.

So...*revives thread* Deathly Hallows Part 1 is coming out in like 2 weeks :jess: And after seeing all the trailers, I must say I can't wait :x3: It looks awesome and like it will probably be at least mostly faithful to the book, from what I've heard :hmmm: Anyone here going to go to any midnight or early showings? I'mma try ordering tickets today for the midnight showing at my local theater, and (I know, I'm kind of a dork XD) I think I'm going to try to dress up in an old black graduation robe, with a Ravenclaw patch that I got at the Wizarding World theme park sewn onto it XD And I'm smuggling a bottle of Pumpkin Juice in and then whatever other HP candies I can find at the local party goods store. I usually don't get this excited for movies but...it's Harry Potter :gasp: Anyone else doing anything special for it?

I'm getting my dad to order tickets for us as soon as possible. It's usually packed on the opening night and we've always done that, so it's helped us in the process. I have to say that this is probably set to be the biggest film yet. So I have extremely high expectations of this!

*revives thread*

I just watched this movie!

So here's my review. Light spoiler warning!

Part 1 of deathly hallows, in my opinion, is the most faithful harry potter movie since sorcerer's stone and chamber of secrets. It is fairly detailed in terms of plot and only skips certain parts of the books. These cut parts are mostly insignificant and draggy if they were to be adapted into the film. The movie also added or modified some new scenes that are also mostly required and suits the movie better.

The atmosphere feels darker and very different because they are not in Hogwarts anymore. I shivered with excitement more than other movies when watching a few scenes. However, I have to say that there are also cheesy moments that make me cringe so much.

The CGI and special effects were awesome and intriguing, as always. There are many scenes involving objects that pop out towards the audience. Other scenes involving lots special effects often leave me speechless and shivering all over in a good way.

They also did a great job with wand usage. In the recent movies such as order of phoenix and half blood prince, the characters mostly only use wands to fight. However, in this movie, I feel that it really shows how magic is used in a wizard/witch's daily lives other than for repetitive duels. Non-verbal magic was reduced greatly too, which is good because Harry and friends are not that experienced enough to do so in the book.

For acting, they did a better job than last time. The scenes with the trio were more emotional than ever. The adult actors did brilliant jobs even though their roles were not that big. Nothing much to say here since I am not good at analysing acting.

The pacing, I feel, was the only weak point of the movie. Sometimes the movie feels too fast that I wish I could see more of certain scenes. But there are times when I was a little annoyed because it drags quite long. However, of course these were relatively necessary for the story.

If you can catch everything the characters say, I guess you will easily understand the movies even if you have never read the book, assuming you have watched all the previous films. Meanwhile, most fans will be delighted on how faithful and emotional the movie is.

EDIT: I forgot this! The film soundtrack is brilliant! Alexandre Desplat did such a great job.

Overall score: 4.5/5

God, the hype better be worth it.

All the material I've seen so far online is pretty impressive, but I hope they're not the only good parts of the film itself. I'm looking forward to Dobby's return, Hermione's torture, the Seven Potters and a whole lot of other stuff I can't remember right now.

I've really enjoyed all the movies, so I'm expecting the 7th one to be just as good. I'm so glad she brought Umbridge back in book 7, that woman made the 5th movie brilliant. :lew:

The two movies comprising the 7th book should be quite different to the others in the series, since it's not set in the castle for once, so I'm really interested to see if they still feel as magical with an entirely different setting.

Just saw it last night :gasp: Other than the film stopping for technical difficulties twice in the middle :hmph: (thank goodness it was in slow parts both times with no important dialogue), it was extremely epic and, like Cid said, it felt extremely faithful to the book :awesome: I haven't read it for 6 months or so, and as the movie went on, it didn't feel at all like it was missing anything important, the flow was very natural from what I can remember. Also, unlike in some of the other films, it was visually almost exactly like I picture it in my head when I'm reading the books :yay: which was very cool, and sort of unusual that they got it so exactly spot on :hmmm:

I won't give too much away, but the only thing major I think it was missing so far (unless it's supposed to happen later?) was
Pettigrew's death scene. I was sure he was supposed to die in the basement of the Malfoy mansion, and in the movie all that happened was Dobby wordlessly cursing him and him falling down the stairs, but not in any sort of fatally-looking way. I had thought Ratface was supposed to strangle himself to death with his silver hand due to his life debt towards Harry, and for me this was one of the most important scenes in the story's climax because Pettigrew was the cause of most of Harry's most serious misfortune in life--betraying his parents, causing Sirius to get into trouble, and restoring Voldemort to a body. Especially after how much they focused on Pettigrew in the Azkaban film, if they don't find some way to work this into the Part 2 film, I will be quite disappointed; both because it's rather inconsistent, and because I hate the little *$%#%# almost as much as Voldemort himself :lew:

The highest points, to leave it on a good note ^_^, were like I said, the visual accuracy of the scenes compared with how I've always pictured them; the
Ministry scene (extremely well-delivered, and they added something in that made it hilarious that I don't think was in the book); the animated sequence during the Three Brothers story that Hermione reads in Lovegood's house; the locket/lake scene; and the casting of the new characters, especially Mundungus Fletcher (he was fricking awesome, exactly like I pictured), Xenophilius Lovegood (which was funny to see Rhys Ifans looking older like a dad because I'd always thought he was pretty good-lookin' in Little Nicky :D), Bill Weasley, and Gellert Grindelwald. Also, Bathilda Bagshot was scary as f*ck. That was another thing, a lot of the traumatic scenes (that one, Charity Burbage being killed on the Malfoy's table, Dobby's death, Ron's splinching :-)sick:), and the chase scene where Hedwig and Moody get killed, were all much more striking, disturbing, and/or dramatic when seeing them on the screen.
Damn, it was a provocative movie :lew:

And, it also ended with the exact scene I predicted it would--I'd heard some rumors about it being when
Voldemort gets the Elder Wand, and so after seeing the trailers I'd thought it would be Voldemort breaking Dumbledore's tomb, getting the Elder Wand, and shooting a Dark Mark into the sky--he shot a blast of light up instead, but everything else was the same XD
