Remember fossil roo? its the place where you have to ride the gargant creatures and pull switches so u can get to your next destination. Every time i play FFIX i dread this part of the game, i immediately look up a guide for a step by step walkthrough. Pulling the levers to change its course was just too confusing, and it didnt help that you got in a random encounter every 2 seconds.......stressfull.
Fossil Roo sucks dont it?>

I'm with you there - I'd have put the game down for a few days to a week before approaching this bloody place.

The lack of healing availability got me over most other factors. You'd be flipping switches to get X new item, get attacked a few times in a DETOUR, return to being attacked a few more times, carry on, take another detour... get attacked... enthusiasm failing... off for another few days. Vivi's epic lack of MP annoyed me so much in this particular cave.

The map's been drilled into my head so much now that I don't even need a guide for it. Horribly tedious, but it added to the feel of the game regardless of the contempt held for it.

I found the amount of battles extremely frustrating but for some strange reason i found myself knowing which route to take and which levers to activate on my first time through the place, it could be because i watched my brother play through this part of the game many years ago, but i found it very easy.

I enjoyed it, at times the back-pedalling could be maddening but it wasn't hugely difficult when all is said and done I found, and the save points were in just the right areas. Plus I love coming out and arriving at a whole new continent. But then I remember the Desert Palace driving me mad later on in the game so I guess we all have bits that send us nuts.
Perhaps if they lowered the rate of random encounters a little in Fossil Roo it might have been a bit better.

I hated Fossil Roo, even with the guide Id still manage to get my self lost or go the wrong way, it's definately my most hated place in the game...oh that and Kujas Desert Palace, but anyway, just hanging all the damn routes trying to explore everywhere and not accidentally go the wrong way, waving yellow flowers about...ugh, it all did my boody head in

I actually didn't mind it. It was the first time the group was experimenting going from one continent to another, wasn't it? I mean they had to go through Quina and Vivi's grandpa's backyard or house or something underground to get to a new continent from what I recall.

Holy shit it's been a while since I played this game. Fossil Roo though was just another adventure that added to the awesome-ness of this kick-ass game.

It wasn't that hard it was just a bit annoying. I did enjoy the bit where you can look for treasure. When I was done that I did a few things on the second continent and then I felt like to go back into fossil roo but I couldn't because there was none of the stuff you attract it with, so it's annoying that you can only go in one way.

It was quite annoying yeah, but the new continent was where the game got better I think. So it's like the beginning of FFIX awesomeness. I suppose... :)

The worst thing was when you were going in a particular direction, you'd get in a battle, then by the time you'd finished, you'd forgotten which way you were going.

That screwed me a few times, until I realised I'd been a certain way and fixed it.

The first couple of times when i got to that part, i hated foosil roo, but now when i got to it, it wasnt as bad as i remember. i just dont like the random battles when trying to do some sort of puzzle type things

I remember the first time I played it, me and a friend were racing each other through it, and I remember wasting a LOAD of time in fossil roo. Second time around it wasn't so bad, the battles are annoying but it helps you level up at this point, and there's really not that many options of where to go, since the others routes other than the correct one lead to dead ends. :neomon:

I'm curious why this place is dreaded. Even when i first came into this part, I didn't experience any problems with the switches. Managed to get past this part without any form of help.

It's not necissarily hard it's just that the severeness of random battles in this area can throw you off track most of the time.

I liked Fossil Roo. I remember getting lost on one or two occasions but I never really had trouble getting through it. The only thing I really had any trouble with was at the very end when you had to do that stupid digging minigame to save the moogle... in order to keep mognet going. I remember really wanting to do that and having a really fucking hard time figuring it out.

Other than that though, I thought it was innovative puzzlesolving. The enemies weren't too tough but the way they managed to do the puzzles were cool. Giving clowers to giant arachnids somehow seems cool to me. It's just crazy enough where you suspect someone huffed paint before pitching it at the board meeting but you're really not sure.

I was the same with the moogle, i really wanted to leave fossil roo but i wanted to pass on all the mognet letters so i dug him out the wall after finding several potions first.
Im not much of a puzzle solving fan and the random battles just added to the annoyance. Seriously this place fries my head.

I hated this place. I am glad I had the strategy guide for this part. Probably my least favorite of anyplace in the game, besides Esto Gaza

I always level up for about 2 or 3 hours before that part of the game. Not because I find it difficult... but because I'm delaying entering. I honestly don't think there was any point to Fossil Roo except to appease the guy who spent 8 weeks designing it.

I was considering starting a new FFIX game this week... but now I am unsure. I really, really do not want to go back to FR.

Okay, so an update to my previous post. I went ahead and started a new game again... I really do love this game, I couldn't stay away because of one place. And so I am going to slighty revise my normal routine. Instead of leveling up for 3 hours before I enter, I got Zidane to level 10 before I even went to the first Boss Battle in the Evil Forest, and am planning to be no less than level 20 by the time I reach Dali. Hopefully, this will mean all the battles there will be a complete breeze and I can speed my way through it as quickly as possible.

The last time I got to Fossil Roo I was dreading it, but then I got started puling levers and all that and I was "Oh well this isn't so bad I'm making good time and all". Then I hit a wall. I spent a full hour going round in circles looking for another lever and going crazy.

The problem? I didn't recognize the exit. I walked by it like 20 times and it never occurred to me that it was the way out, I felt like throwing my psp at the dog.

On the plus side I got alot of exp :)
