Just when we were getting excited about the prospect of Final Fantasy XIII downloadable content, the game's producer and director, Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama have gone and squashed any hope of supplemental material making its way into the game.
"Regarding the DLC content, we feel that the final product is 100% enjoyable… it's the complete package. So we’re not planning any DLC at this time" the duo told the US PlayStation Blog.
And you can forget about ever playing that rumoured cut content too. There are no plans to offer any such material and apparently never were.
"In regard to the rumoured cut content, we feel it was taken out of context," said Kitase and Toriyama. "There are a lot of ideas that are brought to the table, and then the team takes the best ideas out of those, and the final product is polished that way. There was content that were 'ideas' that didn't make the final content, but the team isn't looking to release that as downloadable content."
Despite the news appearing on a Official PlayStation site, it's taken as read that it also applies to the Xbox 360 version, though Avatar items, themes and gamer pics may still appear.
Final Fantasy XIII is slated for a March 9th release.

What? After I have already decided to sell my Xbox for the XIII special edition one? So no Yaag and Jihl outfit? :rage: I might not get it then after all :hmmm:

You will, I think when the mean DLC, they mean DLC in terms of actual gameplay :P
I'm actually happy, from what I've heard the storyline itself takes anywhere between 40/50 hours then there's supposed to be around 64 optional bosses/missions, half of which are meant to be harder than the final boss. Is there any NEED for DLC? Tbh, I'm pretty sick of companies putting 80/90% on disk then charging for the remaining parts. It's quite refreshing they've said this.

I didn't really expect it if I had to be honest, really. The game was pretty much set to go, so it wasn't much of a surprise to be begin with.

Good.

As Ryan said, several developers have left their games unfinished only to push out the leftovers (that should have been in the disc release) out as DLC and essentially charging players extra to enjoy the full thing. I have found this irritating - which is why I'm not a big fan of actual gameplay DLC.

I'm glad it will be 100% enjoyable in that one Blu-Ray disc or 3 DVDs depending on the version. When it comes to Final Fantasy, I expect the whole thing to be there in that new box when I buy it.

Although I'm still a little saddened at the thought of all that content cut out in the first place. They sounded really nice. >_>

Well for me the fact they are not going down the route of downloadable content is only a good thing, as it means the content you do get will be of a much more finish quality.

When companies say "DLC" it is usually a way of saying "you have to pay extra to get a fully finished product" much like games such as RE5, CoD MW2 and so on have suffered from.

So my hats off to SE for not bowing to pressure on this one, its definatley a promising move!

Even though we're not buying the game, we're glad to hear this announcement. We're tired of companies and the DLC they have. We miss the good old days before DLC where games were fun, and didn't need DLC because they were classics without the need for it.

You know i don't get if they weren't going to do it then why get people's hopes up to begin with? I hate it when they play little games like that. Last time i ever buy anything out of SE's mouth.
