Yes, you read that right. Namco has a small piece of the Final Fantasy pie.
Namco Networks, Namco Bandai’s mobile games division, is handling the cell phone version of Final Fantasy in the USA. This version looks slightly different from other Final Fantasy ports. Notice the vertically long battle area and rescaled sprites?

Those changes are fairly minor. Seeing “presented by Namco” underneath the Final Fantasy logo is uncanny.

Huh. I've always thought that Namco (due to its Tales series) considered SE a mortal nemesis or something. Well, it's not like it means much for the game anyway, probably just another port.

they could have done a soul calibur with ff characters(for 3rd party characters) that would be totally awesome,someone like exdeath and bartz would be perfect for soul calibur cuz they have medeval appearance.

Well, if they mainly make just mobile games and whatnot it won't really effect me too much since I don't really play the games on my celluar device.

Now I can't help but go off tangent, wondering if Square-Enix will be presenting any Namco games. I'm waiting for Tales of Vesperia PS3 to get localized, so if they could pick that up...

For a minute there I thought that monster in the third screenshot was a Charizard...
Anyway, haven't we had enough sprite-enhanced remakes of FFI? Do we really need a Namco one as well? That said, it does look quite nice...its a little more vibrant to my eyes. Although I'd still sooner buy the PSP version...or just stick with Dawn of Souls.

Namco has only a small piece here as it's only their mobile games division, not the main team itself - so I doubt that they'll get anymore involved with Square Enix than this. As much as I'd like to see Balthier and Terra make cameos in a Soul Calibur or Tales game, I doubt that will happen. As you guys have said - both are still a nemesis to each other!

That's one more games format that FFI has covered. No doubt FFII may follow as well. I can't think of any other system FFI has been on now that wouldn't require much effort, bar the DS. But really - why do we need another re-release of this game? People must have seen it so much, they know the whole game from the back of their hand!

Namco's mobile games division is only publishing FFI for phones. So they only get a bit of the earnings from FFI's sales like other publishers. Namco doesn't really own anything Final Fantasy-related at all.

So essentially FF cameos in Tales games or vice versa will perhaps be as likely as seeing Cloud trying to compete against Lara Croft in a future Tomb Raider game.

At least that's how I see it.
