well this two OSTs both seem to be the less popular or overlooked in the series and they're not composed by Nobuo Uematsu(w/ some exceptions on XII such as the theme song and a number of his original compositions taken and rearranged). so let's make a poll about it.

I just hope personally that you won't vote for XII since it has the recurring themes but go ahead. I'd say mine later.

While I've never played X-2, I have listened to the OST and I really don't like it. I don't think the music is very good at all. On the other hand, I quite like XII's music so the XII OST gets my vote.

I dunno. Both are different, and both fit the tone of the games really well. In general, XII has a really strong score, but I wouldn't be able to recognize any of the songs off the top of my head. X-2 had a playful and bouncy soundtrack with tunes that actually stood out and were memorable; but X-2 also contains the horrendous chocobo rap.

I guess I'll go for X-2, because at least I didn't have to actively try to remember leitmotifs notice them.

Both are fantastic soundtracks which compliment the tonality of their respective games extremely well. However, there are a few tracks in the FFX-2 soundtrack that I am rather adverse to, namely 1000 Words, so I'll have to vote for FFXII.

Plus a vote against Sakimoto just seems plain wrong.

I'm voting XII. The soundtrack is a lot more subtle, but it's still good, and that song in the second ascent of the Pharos is just sheer win.

X-2...well...it had crappy pop concerts in it, need I say more?

same here with einsprinz. I'd vote for X-2 because there are more upbeat and memorable tunes. XII is great also but it's too orchestral for my taste of a game OST and the melodies are too complex at some tracks. there are few tracks that stricken me like the boss battle and chocobo themes to name some.

I learned to appreciate X-2 music more when I listened to its piano and vocal collections albums. It's modern J-music and I'm more into it while FFXII is like a gladiator movie. right now I can't get the Zanarkand Ruins music out of my head. its piano version is fantastic as well.

i prefered FFXII because the license grid thing was better than the separate skills for different dresspheres the characters are better the graphics are better the characters are better the story line is more easily understandable.

Please read the initial post in future, and note where the thread has been made.

Neither OST really appealed to me in any major way, however XII does have quite nice ST's for each town/city/village you enter... which results in my conclusive vote: FFXII.

We're talking about the OST, not the few crappy pop songs. 1000 words was anything but pop. I think it's the only song I'd let my mates catch me listening to.

My vote would have to go to FFX-2. Whilst playing FFXII, when I was beating down bosses and such, the music added absolutely no sense of danger or fun into the battles. On the other hand, FFX-2 had some really upbeat tunes. I actually really liked FFX-2's OST. It's probably sixth on my list for favortie OSTs.

But I did really like the opening music from FFXII. But if I wanted to hear it, I could just play FFIV. ^_^

I'd probably go with X-2 also. While XII's had a few moments, like the Archadian march, it didn't have anything of the quality of "Eternity-Memory of the Lightwaves." Apart from a few annoying blips here and there, X-2's was much more memorable.

This is an obvious choice. FFXII OST > wtfpwnage > FFX-2 OST.

The only memorable theme of FFX-2 was "Eternity", and that's only the beginning credits theme ¬_¬ The JPop stuff really made me cringe in places.

FFXII has some amazing themes. It is a much grander and richer soundtrack, and has song gentler things, like the Salikawood.

Hmm... everybody keeps citing FFXII as being better because it's grander and more subtle. I agree that it is, but frankly when anyone cites a particular composition, I can't remember it at all. FFXII was going for grand, but it didn't have to be boring. FFX-2 was going for playful and fun, and that's exactly what it did - and I can actually remember the tunes.

Aye, it's memorable...but I did not like the overly-happy, peppy theme of the game and as the soundtrack complimented that, I find it irritating and even repulsive at some points. Plus it brings back memories of the idiocies in the game, like that damn massage mini-game or how Brother shows up so much or how even Yuna's facial structure has changed since the first game or the godawful sudoku mini-game. I don't want to remember any of that crap, thus why I don't like the X-2 OST.

I've never played these games but I've listened to their OSTs. And I like FFX-2's OST a bit more than FFXII's. I was kinda obsessed a while ago with Hadashi no kiseki(did I wrote it right?) or Rikku's theme.

well it's a not so fair vote when some people just can't help being reminded of the game scenarios rather than the music exclusively. good for those who haven't played the games but listened to the music I guess..

XII music is great and what I find good about it is it has its own style. it's evident in the names of the tracks when they put a "~FFXII version~" like for example Chocobo ~FFXII version~. but each track just has the same instruments amost always. I'm more on X-2 because it's more diverse and yeah it more appropriately conveys emotions. I agree with the one who said that.(I'm sorry I can't type the name since I'm on page 2) I can enjoy listening to X-2 music anytime. to be frank, most XII tracks just sound nothing more than like mere background music. though I know it really depends on the person's taste and mood if h/she'll enjoy it.

that's biased. if you're saying it only has overly-happy tracks lemme ask you, how much have you heard of it? the piano and vocal collections albums further expand its diversity as well.

Had to go with X-2. My tastes vary greatly, and i love classical and other orchestral types, and other things, but XII's music was so boring and unmemorable, aside from the Eruyt Village bg and Kiss Me Goodbye :/ Eternity Memory of Light Waves is one of my favorite pieces of music, not just from FF but music in general, and I liked the jazzy music, and the few and far between more 'orchestral'. It was just far more memorable. I'm not saying every song from X-2 was genius, but I remember a lot more of it.

Hmm, I liked a lot of the music in XII, but I’d have to say X-2 win’s my vote as being a better soundtrack. I loved 1,000 words as well as many other tracks, which truly helps it to surpass XII.

Unfortunately, there weren’t so many memorable pieces with XII’s soundtrack, in my opinion.

I didn't like either A LOT overall but I found there are more themes I adore from X-2. I like a few themes from both, and X-2 has a higher majority, so I'll go with X-2. Eternity, Yuna's Ballad, Epilogue...There are some beautiful pieces of music.

And 1000 words! My word, that's one of the best vocal pieces of the lot.
