I've been playing this game since I was literally like 12 and I'm now 22 still playing it. Best game ever or nah?

I say yes. Yes, its many years old and everyone can pick and whine about some flaws about it but for the time it was pretty amazing. I remember recording on my VCR all of my favorite limit breaks and summons. Plus, i knew as a young me i was playing something epic just due to the fact it had multiple discs!

I too have been playing the game for probably like 16 of the 19 years since it's initial release. Probably beat it over 30 times. It's my favorite game ever, along with FFVIII and FFIX. Best game ever? Nah, I don't think there's any such thing. Best Final Fantasy ever? Not that either; I'd give that honor to FFXII, for just being extraordinarily well put together. But VII will still be my favorite game ever, even after I die, lol. There are very, very few experiences that I can go back to over and over again, and yet get the same butterflies in my stomach, and indescribable feelings that I did the first time. And VII is one of them.

It was my first foray into Final Fantasy and into JRPGs in general. It means a lot to me and that is why I am so excited for the remake. Just to experience it again in a definition I never thought we would get. Is it the best game ever no, not by a long shot. Is it my favourite Final Fantasy? No that is FFIX.

When we get older and can critique things more, it does a lot right and it does a lot wrong. But I still love it for the experience it gave me back when it released.

Double yes!

I was 7 when this game came out. My mother used to be a big gamer as well, and I remember Final Fantasy VII was the first game I got hooked on as I just watched her play through it. :lew: So I guess that alone kinda gives it a special place. Final Fantasy VII is the only FF game where I actually cared for the cast. Such an amazing game, I still (re)play it now and then. :lew:

Def the best in the series (this and 12). Best game ever? It's in the top 20 for sure. But I think the best game ever is yet to be made.

The best game ever? Personally I say no. Subjectively, a person can say FFVII is the best game ever for whatever reason. If I look at it more objectively and base it off of the impact a title made on the industry and standards, then there are other titles that trump FFVII.

Sorry but no... Not even the best in the series. That would go to Final Fantasy IX. I played FFVII since it came out in 97, and I have to say it is fun to play through but really is not the best game ever or in the series, but it does deserve the credit and the remake for being the most popular one in the series and for really getting JRPGs outside of Japan.

Best game ever, for me not by a long shot. There are a couple other ps1 titles heck even snes title I would consider giving that too before VII. It maybe be partially due to the fact I never got VII when it first came out, heck my first introduction to FF was FFI was I was like six or so, but I was to young to even know what I was playing or doing with that game it was so hard. Then fastforward years later to VIII which got me really into the series. Best in the series as well i would have to say no, but it is in my top six since positions 4-6 vary at times for me. Mentioned earlier there were quite a few ps1 era games that I personally felt were a far better game, one such one was The Legend of Dragoon.

I don't think I have a favourite game ever. My answer would be too influenced by the enjoyment of what I may be currently playing while acknowledging the fact that I could be selectively remembering only the best parts from games I purportedly love. It's conceivable I can return to play an older game and be frustrated by archaic or downright silly design that forces me to drastically re-evaluate how I feel about the game without any rose-tinted glasses.

While many people have had FFVII as their first exposure to the series and maybe to RPGs in general, I was exceptionally late to the game. My first venture into RPGs did not begin until 12 years ago with FFX-2 and I never got my hands on FFVII until a few years later. I have known all about the fanfare of FFVII and how indescribably influential it had been to the industry, to Square's fortunes and to the hearts and minds of so many, but I was ten years too late to the game to have been there. I liked the game and I can definitely see why it's so well-beloved that it's the subject of so many subsequent playthroughs, but it could never "wow" me as it did others. In fact, my favourite Final Fantasy games continue to be entries that are divisible by the number 3 (except for FFIII itself. Not recommended!).

I call it my joint favourite most days, alongside 10, but 7 is probably the best in the series, i'd say; but not the best game ever (although i'd say it makes the shortlist, for me personally atleast).

I played it on release so it was the pinnacle of what was around at the time. It looked great, played awesome and It was the first time i'd really felt involved and captivated by a story in a game rather than just the gameplay itself.
