FF name that tune?

This forum doesn't have very many competitions, other than annual events and SOTW/AOTW, which not a lot of people can really participate in, because they either don't have the required programs or sufficient confidence in their GFX skills (like me, for instance. xD) or some other reason.

So, I was thinking maybe we could have a weekly FF "name that tune" style contest. Each week, I'd take around fifteen seconds (not necessarily the first fifteen seconds; that'd make it too easy) of ten random Final Fantasy songs, splice them all together onto a Youtube video, and anyone who feels like it would have one week to PM me their answers. The one with the most points at the end of each month (or week, or year, whatever people would prefer) gets...uh, something. Maybe a random little banner thing, reputation, vBPoints...recognition and self-satisfaction. Something like that.

Or, rather than just FF-orientated (was my first thought, since this is an FF forum, and the OST is something that most fans are going to have a fair chance of guessing, making it more...fun, I guess? I dunno.) it could be songs in general, or video game music in general, or something else.

I just wanted some feedback on this idea: Good? Bad? Something you'd want to take part in? Shut up, Martel? I dunno if this sort of thing has been tried on FFF before, but...eh, it could be fun if enough people were interested.

I'd love to participate and just take guesses at each tune. Or name the ones I know

I say you have 2 types to this competition.

You have one that's FF themes ONLY, and then you have another that's General Media, or other Video Games.

And since competitions here run around at a consistent week to week basis, a weekly competition would be nice.

I think doing all three (FF only, songs, and other video games) would be good, I just wanted to gauge interest on the FF one (which I thought would attract the most attention, since everyone is going to know at least some of the songs, whereas with the other two they might not have any clue, which might put them off) before I suggested the other two. xD

Or would people prefer a general song/general video games over FF only? Is FF only too simple/too narrow ranged?

I also think we should have separate themes, because some people may not know certain song genres.

I think having all 3 types is a very good idea, if you can manage them that is.

I will say this though, people here listen to the FF OST(s) at least more than once, so that competition right there will get the most activity.

This could also be a good way to introduce people to new music to listen to. Wether they particularly just like that song, or is interested enough to search up the artist and listen to other songs.

Either way, I see it as a win win situation.

This is a fantastic idea! I'm particularly excited by the FF competition, but it would be good to have a video games one too, and a general music one for those who really know their music.

I'd be willing to create the videos once in a while too if you ever need a little help.

If you want to do it then just make the thread, if it becomes very popular then maybe request it be made a permanent feature. For now though, just make a thread. Gauging interest just by asking, wont work.

i think doing it for songs in general is a better idea. i know i wouldn't be able to guess ff songs, except maybe one or two, and even then i wouldn't know what they were actually called. more people like music, than ff music.

I think it is a good idea..... I would love to do something like this defo with the ff music one but like what raul said it might get people to try different music and they might even discover new type of music alltogether... Sooo i say go for it

You are probably best of making it have a test run first, before making it something official. A lot of GFXers are around the forum, but the SotW isn't really picking up either, while a lot of people say they'll enter to, for example. That's how things go.

I think you should really set through with this idea though, because the forum could use some more activity aside the graphics section.

Really should have thought of that in the first place

Anyways, thread is made, you can find it here. Based on feedback, I've split it up into three rounds - FF, Gaming and General - which will be done each week. Hopefully it'll appeal to more people that way. If one of the rounds is unpopular, I'll just drop it. But until I've got a good idea of interest gauged, I'll run all three to be on the safe side.

If someone wants to close this now, that'd be fine. I'll take suggestions for improvements/themes etc in the thread itself, or via PM#
