Top 3 Motion Picture Soundtracks

To be honest this could either go in Home Theater or Music section, and of course there actually might be a thread out there for this, so I'll take a shot at it anyway and edit it later if need be.

So this was inspired primarily because of the movie "The Fountain." So let me begin this by saying.. I have been a huge fan of movies that use orchestras and such without using words behind their music. I hate when good movies use main stream bands to spice up their flicks, it takes away from the entire movie in my honest opinion.

There are many movies I have seen that have been pretty innovative with their music, and the earliest I could think of were Disney flicks. I haven't really touched one since prior to my teen years, so I can not really list any as of current.

The top three soundtracks I've heard from movies are the following:

1) Hanz Zimmer - Last Samurai
2) Clint Mansell - The Fountain
3) Hanz Zimmer + More - The Rock

Anyone else have any great motion picture soundtracks that they would like to share? Throw down.
 
1. Lost in Translation
Glorious mix of the ethereal and the more rock-oriented, from Death in Vegas to Phoenix to Air to My Bloody Valentine. The use of Just Like Honey for the ending of the film and the OST is excellent.
2. The Blues Brothers
One of my favourite musicals of all time, this holds all the aces in its songs, Arethra Franklin, Ray Charles, James Brown, Jailhouse Rock and the glorious Everybody Needs Somebody to Love. R 'n B heaven before the term became hideously bastardised.
3. The Virgin Suicides
Sofia Coppola again. She always gives her films great soundtracks and this gorgeous soundtrack album by Air works perfectly. Fragile but lovely.
 
1. Mulholland Drive
I'm sure my total devotion to this film is part of the reason I love the soundtrack so much. Tons of ambiance and atmosphere, parts of it are extraordinarily unsettling, but then there are the catchy little things like "I've Told Every Little Star" and, of course, Rebekah Del Rio's "Llorando" which is...um, exquisite.
2. Inland Empire
Lynch again, sans Badalamenti. Even more abstract than Mulholland Drive, somewhat more difficult to listen to, but interspersed with beautiful little bits like "Polish Poem." Plus, it's got the locomotion.
3. Everything from Star Wars
It's...epic. I'm not the hugest SW fan in the world, but the soundtracks make me so giddy.

Awesome movie and soundtrack. Was going to put it here, but you already mentioned it :D

Top 3 soundtracks? Hmmmm, there are so many to choose from.

1.The Dark Knight: My latest purchase. I loved the music when I was watching the movie. Everything works with each other to create the right mood and create suspense as well as accentuating(sp?) the action. The two single notes rising together to a crescendo is one of the most powerful pieces in movie history imo.

2.Braveheart: Its a classic, what else needs to be said. Epic inspiring soundscapes and bagpipes. Oh the bagpipes. If bagpipes can make you feel like you want to stand up and declare how much you love scotland its a job well don^^

3.Pirates of the Carribbean: Maybe not the best of soundtracks but its one of the most fun. You listen to it and you can remember exactly what happend in the movies. Always good if the music can make you remember such things.
 
Wow, this is so hard! I rarely remember movies from the top of my head unless they are really good, much less their soundtracks. However, I will give it a try. I am going to list three movies with soundtracks I really liked, but they might not necessarily be my favorite three since I can't remember all the movies I have watched.

The Bodyguard - I really liked "I will always love you" in this movie. It really made the movie, and it is just a great song. I don't' remember all the songs from it, but there was the one scene I remember after the bodyguard had been shot and that song was playing. It's one of my most memorable songs in movies.

S.W.A.T. - I just really liked the music in this movie. Not only was the movie excellent and one of my favorites, so was its music. The songs were perfect for the scenes.

8 Mile - The reason I am listing this is because I love Eminem. I really liked hearing a few of his songs in this movie, especially "Lose Yourself". This was a pretty good movie and the songs were good as well.

Wish I could remember more for you guys!
 
The matrix: Only film Ive ever bought the soundtrack for its epic, I love all the music in that film, it's brilliant

Birty Dancing same as above I can sing along to the cheese and y mum had the soundtrack so I knda have it imprinted on my brain

I well couldnt think of 2 other films xDD
 
my top 3 would have to be:

1.) Slumdog Millionaire just cause while watching the movie the music acctutally works with it rather then being noise in the background

2.) Animal House cause i like the to sing the songs(Louie, Louie) and the random quotes before the tracks are great

3.) Fight Club just cause i love movie and the song at the end is the best

Comments:I really loved the whole innocent childlike fairy theme of this soundtrack. It would be something I'd like to play to my kids when I put them to bed I think. XD

* Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl - Klaus Badelt

Comments: The whole dark and mysterious feel of this soundtrack got the adrenaline pumping for me! XD It made Jack Sparrow seem so much sexier when the music came on! XD Love the suspense of it all and the way it made the whole movie and certain characters feel serious/sexy. XD

Score: 10/10

* Once Upon A Time In Mexico - Robert Rodriguez

Comments: The soundtrack for this movie was obviously meant to sound like it was in Mexico because it was. XD I loved the guitars and the mexican people intervening throughout some of the tracks to make the theme music seem more involved with the movie. It was great and once again made Johnny Depp more sexy! XD

Slumdog Millionaire has a catchy soundtrack, especially Jai Ho (both the original and Pussycat Dolls version) and that "Dreams on Fire" (I think) is quite a nice song. EVERY Disney film that has Phil Collins somewhere in the OST is amazing though :monster:

Memoirs of a Geisha - John Williams

The movie wowed me and so did the music. It's very classical. I really like how the cello represents Sayuri and the violin represents the Chairman. I especially like "Becoming a Geisha", "A New Name... A New Life" and "Brush On Silk,"

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimerron - Hans Zimmer
I LOVE Hans Zimmer. He's so great at capturing adventures and excitement into a single piece of music. I'll love him forever.

Titanic - James Horner
WOW, need I say more? :awesome:

Time machine- Klaus Badelt
Blood Diamond- James Newton Howard.

I just love movies with tribes in it. It always has great soundtracks.
 
Lee Holdridge - The Mists of Avalon

If you haven't heard of it, I'm not surprised. It was a TV movie's soundtrack. But it's a really good one. All of the songs have a Celtic flair to them, and they work really well. It has a full orchestra, too. And Mr. Holdridge is very talented.

I love Viviane's Death theme-thing a lot, it's one of the best compositions I've ever heard. I can listen to it over and over again and never get tired of it. I love it to death.

The movie sucked by the way, but the book is really good and so is this soundtrack. So good that I listen to it while I read the book.

Yes, the movie was shit (I could go on forever about it but I won't) but the soundtrack was awesome. It helped me discover Loreena McKennitt.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy had a great soundtrack as well. Some of my favorites are May it Be, Gollum's Song and the Breaking of the Fellowship. The Breaking of the Fellowship always makes me want to cry (the singer has such a beautiful voice).

Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Lion King. Disney at its best. :monster:
 
Well i just got my FFXIII OST so that would be up there. Also the new Smallville soundtrack they had some great music this past season.
Well to be honest who didn't like the music in the new game.
Smallville has always had a great taste in tunes that they pick for the show. Every song fits the moment like a glove.

* Anastasia - Various Artists

Comments: This movie has the best soundtrack when it comes to animated movies in my opinion.

Such gorgeous songs and the instrumental is simply enchanting. The girl who sung for Anastasia really has a gorgeous voice.

The lyrics are all very catchy and simply beautiful. <3

I got the Lord of the Rings sound track from the Fellowship of the Ring and the The return of the king. They are great listening for a couple of hours and its like watching the movies
if you know them well enough.

Also recently acquired the latest Bullet for my Valentine album and it rocks, with mutliple run times alredy it was worth the money;)
 
Anything from Hanz Zimmer. He's just so talented and so versitile. It's shocking how much emotion he puts into his music. His music can make you feel anger, sadness, happiness, and bittersweetness. He's just amazing.

So I'm gonna have to go with ANY soundtrack from Hanz.
