What is your favourite character of the monk class? Or... In failing to define them as a monk, just a uber powerful fighter that uses his/her fists or claws in all out combat. A strongman etc...

Vote and discuss...

EDIT - Epic fail... I typo'ed and missed the "g" in Yang... Is there any way people know I can can edit the poll options?

Sabin! I thought his combos were pretty powerful. Its like having Overdrive as a usable ability, anytime in battle too. And if you
trained him enough with the espers, you could have him be a strong mage too.

Im gonna go and say amarant. His Flare attacks were very usefull in battle, it gave him a wide choice of different abilities. He could restore health and mp, use demi attacks and even revive a fallen comrade, not quite as varied as a white mage but has great abilities and a strong physical attack.
Sabin i also like, his blitz attacks were awesome, you never needed to use his normal attacks in the game as blitz had no drawbacks at all and did more damage.

Sabin. His Blitzes are incredibly useful in difficult boss battles, and I enjoyed his character throughout FF VI. He was also strong enough to brace a house against collapse, none of the other monks can boast this feat.

I like Yang the best because of his strong attacks and powerful kicks. I also find his Brace augment that he gives to be very useful as well especially when I equip it on Cecil with his counter attack for extra damage. I always admire him a bit more than Sabin even though he is cool too. Besides, Yang's voice in the DS version is my favorite because it's done by Dan Woren.

It was kind of hard for me to picture Amarant classified as a Monk, but I had it down between him and Sabin from FFVI.

I chose Sabin though because even though Amarant is a beast with his fists, Sabin was trained and learned from the best to master his skills and conquer with his 8 knuckles.

Yang for me, I was so gutted when he left my party, had a pretty nifty punch on him, and he just seemed like a proper...monk, I know Tifa and zell are technically, but it just seems funny xD

aNYWAY, I liked Yangs character, and his wife made me lol

I loved how she gives Cecil a frying pan to get Yang out of his deep sleep lol. The moment you hit him with the pan, I just laugh. That was one of my favorite scenes in the game.

I chose Sabin. He's probably the strongest... Not just in battle, but in story as well.

Sabin
picked up a train for heavens sake!
And also picked up many a heavy object to let others past, with complete ease. A true legend.

I...don't know why that's a spoiler, but...Ghost trains weigh less than regular trains...! lol I'd have to go with Sabin as well as he's got the widest range of Monk abilities (along with all the regular Magic of FFVI)...

Are Tifa, Zell & Amarant monks...? Doesn't Amarant have the mostly Ninja ability Throw?

EDIT: Oh, the poll itself says "or strongman"...which I...still don't think they classify as...>_>

Zell, Tifa and Amarant are classed as monks. Though jobs apply less in these games, they more often labelled as representatives of the monk job class.

Zell and Tifa because of their abilities (similar to Sabin's to a degree in the button bashing etc) and them using their fists as their weapon.

And Amarant because of his claws, which are a classical monk weapon too, I think, or at least was one in some FF games.

Oh, wait, wrong Monk

I liked Amarant, but they didn't really go in depth enough with his character, I wish they did

^ Lol
Gotta go with Zell, he was pretty useful in battle, I liked his laid back character, his love for hot dogs and the first time you see him he does a back flip, not because he had to, but ya'know he just felt like it.

Next would be Sabin, he was a lifesaver. If it wasn't for him I would have struggled with FFVI for a very long time.

Luneth as a Black Belt could kill 'em all. Not just anyone can do over 120,000 damage in one hit, and reach over 400 Attack and do 32 hits in one swipe.

I liked Amarant in combat the most, he had a wide range of skills. Yang would have to be my second, then Sabin. But back to Amarant, I liked how he could Chakra, it was really helpful in some of my party setups. Also when he Tranced it went wide so he could "Cure" the whole party... as I recall I think that saved my bacon vs Necron. He also had Throw, and I can't tell you how much I like hucking things at monsters in these games.

I gave away my PS2 Memory card when I gave my PS2 to my brother-in-law... so now I'm trying to get to where Amarant joins your party.
